You can create a personal finance tracker without writing code by starting with a no-code app template, or by connecting a spreadsheet to an app builder. Begin with transaction records and a basic monthly spending view; add bank syncing and shared access only when you need them and have checked how they work.
Choose the right no-code starting point
For an individual, the quickest route is usually a personal-finance template. If you prefer to keep your records in a spreadsheet, connect one to an app interface. A structured database tool may fit better when you need workflows such as approvals or team reporting.

| Your priority | Starting point | What the vendor describes | Check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Get a personal app structure quickly | Glide Personal Finance Template | Transactions, accounts, recurring bills, subscriptions, spending insights, customization, and publishing. | Whether the template is still available at its displayed price, and which platform plan and limits your use requires. |
| Keep a spreadsheet as the main data source | Google Sheets with Softr | Two-way sync, drag-and-drop app blocks such as lists, charts, and tables, and user permissions. | Permission settings, plan limits, and whether the integration supports your workflow. |
| Organize records and finance processes | Airtable | Budget and expense tracking, reports, purchase approvals, integrations, and automation, with a primarily team-oriented framing. | Whether the workflow and pricing make sense for personal use. |
| Automate bank-data collection | Fintable with Google Sheets or Airtable | Fintable says it sends balances and transactions daily, using named data suppliers or direct bank APIs where available. | Support for your bank, region, and account; limits; consent; and data handling. |
This comparison reflects vendors’ published descriptions, not independent testing. For most individuals, start with a template or spreadsheet-backed app; bank feeds are an optional later step.

Build a useful first version
Keep the first release small enough that you can use it consistently. A transaction table is the core; a monthly summary makes the records useful for budgeting.
#1 Best Overall
- Create transaction records. Include a date, amount, account, category, and short description. Add an account list and category list as linked tables if your builder supports them.
- Add a monthly view. Show income, expenses, and totals by category. Check that transfers between your own accounts are not mistakenly counted as spending or income.
- Add only the features you will use. Recurring bills and subscriptions are sensible next additions if you want to track upcoming payments. Glide’s template describes these alongside accounts and transactions.
- Choose an input method. Enter transactions manually or import a CSV to begin. Use the tracker long enough to decide whether that routine is manageable before connecting a bank.
- Test with a small sample. Enter a few representative transactions, verify the monthly totals, and make sure you can correct a category or account without losing the record.
Use a template, spreadsheet, or database
Start from Glide’s personal finance template
Glide describes a template that can be copied to a Glide account, adapted with imported data and additional screens or integrations, then published. Its page presents the template as a way to track transactions by account, bills, subscriptions, and spending. This can save setup time, but review the actual structure before adding real financial records.
At the time represented by the template page, it displayed a $24.99 purchase price. That is a changeable offer, separate from the cost and limits of a Glide platform plan; confirm both on the live pages before committing.

Keep Google Sheets underneath a Softr app
This route suits someone who wants a spreadsheet to remain the source of their records while a no-code builder supplies a more app-like interface. Softr describes two-way updates between Google Sheets and its app, plus blocks for presenting data and permissions for controlling what users can view or edit. As Softr puts it, “Any updates you make in Google Sheets instantly reflect in your Softr app, and vice versa.” This is the vendor’s description, not an independent performance test.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Set permissions in the actual app and check them with each intended user role. A spreadsheet-backed app is only as private as its sharing and access settings.

Use Airtable for a more structured workflow
Airtable’s finance materials emphasize budgets, expenses, reports, approvals, integrations, and automation for finance teams. Those capabilities may suit a household or a more involved workflow, but the team-oriented design may be more than a personal tracker needs.
Decide whether to connect bank accounts
Bank syncing is a separate integration decision, not a requirement for building a useful tracker. Fintable says it provides personal-finance templates for Airtable and Google Sheets and sends bank-account or card balances and transactions to a spreadsheet daily. It names Plaid, GoCardless, Akoya, and SnapTrade as data suppliers and says it may connect directly to bank APIs where available. These descriptions do not establish coverage for every bank, account, or country.
Rank #4
- Look up your financial institution and account type for your region before designing the tool around a feed.
- Review the provider’s authorization flow, consent, and data-handling terms. Do not put online-banking passwords or authentication secrets in ordinary transaction fields.
- Check what happens when a feed is unavailable or delayed, and how you can identify or correct missing and duplicate transactions.
- Keep manual entry or CSV import available as a fallback if you rely on the tracker for budgeting.
Protect personal data and review shared access
Transactions can reveal sensitive details about a person or household. Share only the records and screens that each user needs, and inspect the app’s access settings rather than assuming a template’s sharing features are configured safely. Glide describes family sharing for its template, while Softr describes view and edit permissions for app users backed by Sheets. Neither product description verifies the security of your particular setup.
Before inviting anyone, test the app using the permissions they will receive. Confirm which data they can see, edit, export, or share, and remove access when it is no longer needed.

Check pricing and limits before building around a feature
Plan terms and template offers change. Glide’s help page, titled “Pricing Plans (as of November 1, 2025),” was updated March 19, 2026. It lists a $0-per-month individual free tier for learning or testing simple personal apps, with up to 10 personal users and zero monthly updates (excluding Glide Table updates). The same page describes paid individual tiers with user, update, and data-source limits. Check Glide’s current plan details for the limits that apply when you build; do not assume a free tier includes every integration or usage level you need.
When to get help building it
If you need a custom app or a more complex workflow, implementation help may be appropriate. Softr’s published partner program is aimed at agencies and freelancers building client apps and describes application and certification requirements for qualifying tiers. Airtable’s Services Partner Program describes accreditation, training, support, and eligibility for lead referrals or subcontracting after approval. These are implementation pathways, not general consumer affiliate offers.
