Before you create another account
Confirm that the problem is with the profile rather than assuming your files are gone. Windows may show a profile-load error or a temporary-profile notice. A Microsoft-hosted community answer also mentions a Command Prompt path containing TEMP as a clue, but that alone is not a definitive diagnosis: Microsoft Q&A on a corrupt user profile.

You need to sign in to a different account with administrator rights to create another account and manage the migration. Microsoft’s Windows 7-related search result documents the profile-load error, but does not provide a complete account-creation walkthrough: Microsoft support: “Unable to log you on because your profile could not be loaded”. If you cannot access any administrator account, the procedure below is not available from your current sign-in; the sources cited here do not establish a Windows 7 recovery route for that situation.

Create and initialize a replacement profile
Windows 7 account-management screens can vary by edition and configuration, so this guide does not give unverified click-by-click menu directions. Use Control Panel’s user-account management to create a separate local account, and grant it administrator rights for the recovery work if needed. Do not reuse the damaged account as the replacement.

- While signed in to an administrator account, create a new local user account through Control Panel’s account-management options.
- Give the replacement account administrator rights if it needs to manage the old profile’s files. Use those rights for recovery rather than making unnecessary changes to the damaged account.
- Sign out of the administrator account and sign in to the new account once. Windows creates and initializes its profile during that first sign-in.
Microsoft’s current “Fix a corrupted user profile” procedure describes this general new-account-and-copy approach for Windows 10 and Windows 11, not Windows 7. Its instructions should not be treated as Windows 7 menu directions: Microsoft: Fix a corrupted user profile.
Copy personal files, not the entire damaged profile
After the new profile has been initialized, sign in with an administrator account that can access both profile folders. On a typical Windows installation, the old folder is under C:Users<old name>; the new account has its own folder under C:Users. Copy wanted personal data into the matching folders in the new profile—for example, documents into Documents and desktop files into Desktop.

- Choose the personal files you need rather than copying the old profile wholesale. The new profile should retain its own settings and profile files.
- Do not copy
Ntuser.dat,Ntuser.dat.log, orNtuser.ini. This specific caution comes from a Microsoft-hosted community answer, not a current official Windows 7 checklist: Microsoft Q&A on a corrupt user profile. - Keep the damaged folder in place while you check the replacement account and your important files. Deleting or changing the old folder too soon can remove your remaining recovery options.
Check the new sign-in before relying on it
Sign out, restart Windows, and sign in to the replacement account again. Check that it loads normally and that important documents and other copied files open. If you use application-specific data, check it separately rather than assuming it came across with the personal folders.
Email messages and addresses may need to be imported separately, and some applications may need reconfiguration or reinstallation. Those are general cautions from Microsoft’s current guidance for Windows 10 and 11, rather than Windows 7-specific documentation: Microsoft: Fix a corrupted user profile. Keep the old profile until you have checked the files and sign-in you depend on.
