Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can make a daily journal app without writing code by building a small, database-driven app in a visual no-code builder. The first version needs three things: a form that saves a dated entry, a history screen that lists the signed-in user’s earlier entries, and access rules that stop one account from reading or editing another account’s writing. Before you start, decide whether readers will open the app through a web link or install it from an app store. That choice sets your publishing steps and can affect which plan you need.
What the first version should include
Keep the first release small. A journal app succeeds or fails on two actions: writing an entry and finding an older one. Everything else can wait.

- An entry form with a large text field and a date attached to each entry.
- An entry history screen that shows only the current user’s entries, newest first.
- Account sign-in, so every entry has an owner.
- Access rules that limit reading and editing to that owner.
Prompts, mood tags, and similar extras are product ideas, not requirements. Add them only if they serve the people who will use the app.

Plan the data: one record per entry
Most no-code builders store app content in tables, with each row called a record. A journal needs one table for entries. The fields below are a suggested starting structure; the field names and types will vary by builder.

| Entry text | Long text | Holds the writing itself |
| Mood (optional) | Choice list | Optional tag; not needed for version one |
Build the app step by step
Adalo’s documentation describes the building blocks used below: screens, a database, and publishing. The journal-specific wiring is a general pattern for database-driven apps, not a tested journal recipe, so check each step against the builder’s current help pages.
- Write the scope on one page. List the four items from the first-version section and cut anything else.
- Choose the layout. Adalo lets you build a responsive app that works on mobile, tablet, and desktop, or a mobile-only app. Choose mobile-only if people will mainly write on phones. Choose responsive if they will also review entries on a laptop.
- Create the entries table. In the builder’s database section, add a table with the fields from the table above.
- Build the entry form. Add a screen with a text input and save action that creates a new entry. Set the owner to the signed-in user and the date to the current date, rather than asking the writer to type either one.
- Build the history screen. Add a list that shows only records whose owner is the current user, sorted by entry date with the newest first.
- Add editing if you need it. An edit screen that opens an existing entry should be available only to its owner.
- Set access rules. Configure who can read, create, and modify entries before you share the app. The section on protecting entries explains how to test this.
- Test, then publish. Run the checks in the testing section, then follow the publishing route you chose.
Choosing a builder
Adalo and Bubble are both visual, no-code platforms with official documentation covering the features that matter for a journal. Neither vendor’s documentation is an independent benchmark, and neither is the best choice for every journal app. Compare them on the criteria below.

Protect entries before anyone else uses the app
Journal entries are personal, so access rules are the most important part of the build. Do not assume a new app is private by default. Verify it.

- Repeat the check after every change to the database rules or screens.
Bubble’s feature page describes database privacy rules, but turning on a feature does not make a specific app secure. Your own rules and tests determine what is protected.
The vendor pages reviewed for this article do not establish how entries are encrypted, how long data is retained, or whether entries can be backed up or exported. If you plan to store sensitive writing, read each vendor’s current security and data documentation before you commit.

Test the everyday path
These are recommended checks rather than results from a test of either platform. This article does not include hands-on testing of any app.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Create an entry on the device size you expect most readers to use.
- Edit that entry, then reopen it to confirm the change saved.
- Find an entry from several days earlier using the history screen alone.
- Open the history screen with no entries to confirm the empty state is readable.
- Save a very long entry, such as several thousand words, and confirm it displays in full.
- Confirm that two accounts see different histories.
Choose a publishing route
Web link
Adalo describes publishing to a public web URL. A web link is the simplest route when readers will open the journal in a browser and you do not need app-store installation. Check the current plan requirements before you publish.
Best Value
Native iOS and Android apps
Adalo describes native Android and iOS build outputs, and Bubble describes app-store publishing. Native distribution makes sense when readers expect an installed app icon. Store approval steps and review outcomes were not established by the vendor pages reviewed, so plan extra time for them.
Custom domain
Adalo’s publishing guide states that custom-domain publishing requires a paid plan tier. If you want a branded address for the journal, confirm the current plan rules before you choose a plan.
What is and is not established
- Plan prices and tier names are not stated here. Check each vendor’s current pricing page.
- Data retention, backup, export, and encryption details are not established by the vendor pages reviewed.
- Store review outcomes for journal apps are not established.
- Platform features and plan rules change. Confirm them in the builder’s current help documentation before you build.
Reader phrasing for this topic often takes the form “prompted to type in their day’s journal entries.” That describes the core use case, which is why the first version focuses on entry creation and history.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I charge for a paid journal app?
Bubble’s feature page describes in-app purchases. The vendor pages reviewed do not establish whether Adalo supports them, or how app-store payment rules would apply to a paid journal. Confirm both before you plan a paid version.
Can the builder send daily reminders to write an entry?
The vendor pages reviewed do not establish whether either builder sends scheduled reminders for a journal app. If reminders are central to your plan, check each builder’s integration and notification options directly before you choose one.
