1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe most reliable way to create a convincing AI-generated actor is to design a distinctive character first, establish that character in clean reference images, and generate the film as a sequence of short, planned shots. Use each image to anchor appearance and prompt the movement for that shot; then review clips for changes in face, wardrobe, and motion before editing. This workflow improves your control, but does not guarantee perfect consistency.
1. Design the character before generating footage
Start with a character brief, not a prompt for a photorealistic face. Decide who the character is and what the audience needs to recognize from shot to shot. Record the character’s age range, facial features, hair, clothing, posture, voice, emotional range, and role in the story. Choose a few visual details that can remain stable, such as a distinctive hairstyle, coat, or accessory.

Make the character original. Do not ask a generator to reproduce a recognizable real actor, and do not use another person’s likeness or voice without permission. A compelling performance also depends on what the character does and feels, not only on how realistic the face appears.

Generate or create a clean portrait that clearly shows the intended face, hair, and clothing. Inspect it for visual artifacts before using it as a reference: flaws in the initial image may carry into generated footage. If the film uses different angles or outfits, create and approve additional references while keeping the defining identity details consistent.

Hardware Note: Currently not compatible with ARM-based Windows systems or Windows Hello Face Recognition.
Runway describes Gen-4 references as a way to maintain more consistent subjects and styles across scenes. That is a useful production aid, not a promise that every generated frame will preserve identity exactly. Keep a short written identity description beside the approved images so you can check outputs against a stable target.
3. Turn the story into a shot list
Plan the film as a set of editable shots rather than expecting one prompt to produce a complete scene. For each shot, decide on one primary action, the expression or emotional beat, the framing, and any camera movement. Keeping the action focused makes it easier to spot whether the generated performance serves the story.
The cited Runway Gen-4 guide describes generating 5- or 10-second clips from an input image and a text prompt. Build your shot plan around discrete clips and expect to shape pace, transitions, and scene continuity in the edit. Those clip lengths describe the documented workflow, not a rule for every AI video tool.

4. Generate each performance from the reference
Use the approved image to establish who the character looks like, then make the text prompt about what happens in the shot. Runway’s guide recommends focusing the prompt on motion and starting with an image free of visual artifacts. Describe the action, pace, expression, and camera movement clearly enough to guide the shot without asking one prompt to solve the entire scene.
- Choose the reference: Use the approved image that best matches the shot’s angle, wardrobe, and lighting.
- State the action: Describe one central movement or performance beat, such as turning toward someone or pausing before speaking.
- Specify the camera: Include the intended framing or movement when it matters to the shot.
- Generate a short clip: Use the duration your shot plan requires and the tool supports.
These steps describe a practical use of image-to-video prompting; results still need review and selection.
5. Review for continuity before editing
Compare each candidate clip with the approved character reference and with adjacent shots. Look for changes that may break the illusion of one actor performing across the film:

- Face shape, eyes, hair, or other identifying features shift.
- Clothing, accessories, or colors change without a story reason.
- Movement looks distracting, or the expression does not fit the intended beat.
- The camera motion or framing makes a cut to the next shot difficult.
Reject distracting clips, regenerate them, or revise the shot prompt. Reference-based workflows can help with visual continuity, but the cited sources do not establish a consistency rate or guarantee that a character will look identical in every output.
6. Assemble the film and make the human decisions visible
Select and edit clips for story, rhythm, and continuity. Use sound, timing, and transitions to make the performance read clearly; a generated image or clip is only one part of the finished film. The screenplay, shot choices, edits, sound design, and other creative decisions are places where human authorship can shape the result.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.7. Treat voice, likeness, and release rights as production decisions
Choose a human performance, a synthetic voice you are authorized to use, or a silent performance. OpenAI describes safeguards intended to support consent for likeness in Sora characters and visible and invisible provenance signals on generated video. Those product safeguards do not make every voice or likeness use authorized. SAG-AFTRA materials address consent, control, and compensation for digital replicas in covered contexts; whether they apply depends on the performer, production, and agreement.

Do not present a generated character as a real person or imply that an actor endorsed your film. Keep records of permissions, licenses, reference materials, prompts, human-authored work, and edits. Documentation is prudent, but it is not a substitute for rights clearance.
8. Understand the U.S. copyright guidance
In a report summary dated January 29, 2025, the U.S. Copyright Office said AI-generated output may be protected when a human author determines sufficient expressive elements. It identified perceptible human-authored work and creative arrangements or modifications as examples, while stating that prompts alone are insufficient. This is U.S. guidance; check the copyright law and release requirements that apply to your production and location.

How to compare AI video tools for this workflow
Choose a tool based on whether its documented features fit the shots you need, rather than assuming a particular product will produce a convincing actor. Compare:
- Whether you can reuse character references across scenes.
- Whether the tool supports image-to-video generation and motion-focused prompts.
- Available clip lengths and the motion controls needed for your shot list.
- How easily its output fits your editing workflow.
- Whether its terms suit your planned release and distribution.
The cited material documents particular Runway reference and prompting capabilities and Adobe’s stated Firefly safeguards; it does not provide independent comparative quality tests or establish that any tool’s output is legally risk-free.
