Before you start: check channel access and choose the stream format
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and select encoder streaming to configure the broadcast. YouTube supports encoder-based streams; OBS is one software option, not a requirement. Decide whether you want one uninterrupted broadcast or a series of shorter sessions. A single 24/7 broadcast is simpler to manage, but it is a poor choice if you are relying on YouTube alone to preserve a complete replay. Plan your recording and restart schedule before going live.
Prepare rain audio and visuals you are allowed to use
Use recordings, images, animation, and music that you created or are licensed to use worldwide on YouTube. Keep the license and other rights documentation for third-party assets. A license does not guarantee that YouTube will recognize the permission automatically: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and a match can result in a placeholder, interruption, or termination. Before broadcasting, check the finished audio and visual feed for accidental copyrighted music, television, or other background material. A rain sound recording is not automatically rights-free just because it sounds natural; confirm who made it and what the license permits.
Build the feed in an encoder
An encoder combines your audio and visual scene and sends it to YouTube. OBS is a commonly documented software option; YouTube does not require it. Follow OBS’s current help documentation and match its output to the settings selected for your YouTube stream. The sources here do not establish a single required bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval for every stream, so use the values shown for your selected YouTube configuration rather than copying settings blindly.

- Configure the stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, choose encoder streaming, and create or select the broadcast. Copy the stream key into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on-screen or share it.
- Assemble the scene. Add the rain audio and a visual you have rights to use. Check that the audio is continuous and at a comfortable level, and that the visual does not reveal private information or unlicensed material.
- Set output to match YouTube. In the encoder, select the output options YouTube specifies for the stream. Confirm the video and audio sources are active and that the stream preview looks and sounds as intended before starting.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Start streaming from the encoder, then confirm the incoming feed and status in the Live Control Room. Keep an eye on the encoder and connection rather than assuming that a 24/7 title means the feed cannot stop.

With a self-hosted encoder, the computer running it, network equipment, and internet connection all need to remain available. Check the feed periodically and have a way to notice if it stops. A UPS can help bridge a brief power interruption for the encoder and network equipment, but it cannot solve a long outage or restore internet service. YouTube’s published guidance does not certify a particular equipment setup for uninterrupted 24/7 operation.

- Computer or encoder: compare sustained encoding capacity, power use, and remote monitoring options for the output settings you choose. A dedicated PC or hardware encoder is optional; no specific model is established here.
- Network and power: keep the router and encoder powered, and consider what you will do if either loses service.

Will YouTube save my 24/7 livestream?
Do not count on YouTube to archive a single stream that runs for 24 hours or longer. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance for live streams.
If replay preservation matters, record the feed locally and consider ending and restarting sessions before they reach 12 hours. That is a practical way to work within YouTube’s stated archive limit, not a guarantee that every session will be archived. Store the local recording on a drive with enough free space for your intended recording length; YouTube does not specify a drive type or capacity in this guidance.

Can a rain ambience livestream earn money?
Monetization is not guaranteed. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and expect monetized content to be original and authentic rather than generic, mass-produced, or repetitive. A static loop may not meet those expectations. Reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement: permission to use an asset does not by itself make a stream eligible for monetization.
