You can run a Tamil devotional music stream on YouTube with an existing computer and a free encoder such as OBS Studio, provided your channel can livestream and you have the rights to every recording and visual. That keeps initial equipment costs low, but it does not make the stream hands-off: power, internet, monitoring, copyright checks and YouTube’s archive limits all matter. What you need before starting
For a do-it-yourself stream, prepare a YouTube channel with live access, a computer that can stay on, a stable internet connection, an encoder, and music and visuals you own or are authorized to use.

- Live access: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube for Artists advises enabling and verifying live streaming at least 24 hours before a first planned music stream.
- Encoder: OBS Studio is a free, open-source option. YouTube says expensive equipment is not required, so start with a suitable computer you already own before buying a dedicated host.
- Content rights: Confirm that your permissions cover the recordings and any artwork, photographs, lyrics or other visuals in the broadcast. Tamil-language or devotional content is not exempt from copyright.
- Operations: Plan for continuous power and internet, monitoring, a local recording backup, and what you will do if the encoder or connection stops.
YouTube for Artists reported that more than 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That figure covers live content generally; it is not a forecast of viewers for a Tamil devotional stream.

Choose a budget setup
The lowest upfront-cost approach is usually to use an existing computer as the encoder host. A dedicated computer or mini PC is optional, not a stated YouTube requirement. Either arrangement still depends on reliable power and internet, and neither guarantees uninterrupted broadcasting.

Before spending money, check that the computer can run OBS and handle your chosen video scene while maintaining a stable connection. YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish a minimum computer specification, a cheapest 24/7 architecture or an uptime guarantee.
Prepare the channel, music and stream
1. Enable live streaming and retrieve the stream key
Verify the channel and confirm that live streaming is enabled and unrestricted. YouTube for Artists recommends enabling and verifying access at least 24 hours before a first planned stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room to create or schedule the broadcast and obtain its stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to stream to your channel.
2. Build a rights-cleared playlist and visual
Use recordings you made or content for which you have the required permissions. Do not assume a song is free to use because it is devotional, traditional, or already available on another YouTube channel; a particular recording, arrangement or visual may have separate rights. If you use licensed third-party tracks, contact the rights owner or distributor about having your channel added to its Content ID allowlist before the broadcast.

YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for necessary rights on the content provider, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The terms also state that those rights must cover exploitation of the live content on Google services worldwide. A license and a Content ID allowlist are distinct practical issues: YouTube advises allowlisting because a license alone may not prevent a live interruption.
3. Configure OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Install OBS Studio from its official site and create a scene with the visuals you have permission to use. Add the authorized audio source or playlist; check the full sequence rather than assuming one track will repeat as intended.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect using the stream key from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private.
- Set the output resolution and frame rate to match the material and the computer’s capacity. Avoid choosing a higher resolution simply because it is available if it makes the computer or connection unstable.
- Set audio levels so the music is audible without clipping, and make sure the visual does not expose private information or unlicensed material.
- Start with a private or unlisted test stream. Check the Live Control Room preview, confirm the stream is accessible to the intended audience, and monitor both audio and video before scheduling a public broadcast.
YouTube’s published guidance cited here does not establish a single bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval or computer specification for every stream. Use the current encoder recommendations shown in YouTube Studio for your selected stream settings, then verify them with a test rather than relying on a universal value.
Keep the stream running and preserve an archive
A 24/7 plan requires more than pressing “Go Live.” The computer must stay powered, the encoder must keep sending data, the internet connection must remain available, and someone should be able to notice and address problems. YouTube specifically recommends continuously monitoring the live stream.

- Keep a local recording backup of the broadcast or source material. YouTube recommends making a local archive backup.
- Plan sessions with the archive limit in mind. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. The guidance does not prescribe a particular restart schedule.
- Decide how the playlist will continue after its final item and how an operator will restart the encoder or stream after a disconnect.
- Test the complete workflow, including the audio, stream visibility, local recording and restart procedure, before relying on it for an extended broadcast.
Copyright and monetization risks
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It may replace the stream with a warning placeholder and interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the material remains. A live stream can also be terminated following a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. Rights clearance is the channel operator’s responsibility, even if a track has been used elsewhere without an obvious consequence.

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its July 15, 2025 clarification says repetitive or mass-produced material falls under its “inauthentic content” policy. A continuously repeated playlist is therefore not automatically eligible for monetization; meeting rights requirements alone does not establish eligibility.
