The essential first step is not technical, though: a public YouTube playlist, a purchased recording, or the ability to play a song does not by itself grant permission to rebroadcast it. Clear the necessary rights before streaming Tamil film songs.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel verified for live streaming, with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live streaming can take up to 24 hours to activate, so do not leave activation until broadcast day. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup instructions.
- Permission for the specific recordings and compositions you plan to broadcast, covering the intended use and territories. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have all necessary rights, including music licensing rights and any applicable public-performance rights.
- A computer running OBS, VLC installed so OBS can offer its VLC Video source, and local audio or video files that you are authorized to stream. Check the OBS media-source guide for supported formats.
- A reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your selected stream settings plus headroom for other network use.
There is no special Ilaiyaraaja-streaming exception or established track-by-track clearance route in the platform guidance. Rights can involve different recordings and compositions, so obtain permission for the actual material and use rather than assuming one purchase or permission covers everything. If a rights owner licenses your use, ask whether they must add your channel to a Content ID allowlist: YouTube says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted.

Set up the playlist and OBS
1. Prepare authorized media files
Use local files for which you have streaming permissions. A YouTube playlist URL is not the same thing as a playlist of files for an encoder to play: this method feeds media from your computer into OBS, rather than rebroadcasting videos from YouTube. Neither method supplies music rights.
2. Add and loop the playlist
- Install VLC if it is not already installed, then open OBS.
- In the scene where you want the songs to play, add a VLC Video source.
- Choose the authorized media files for the source’s playlist.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled (the documented default is On) or turn it on. OBS will restart the source after it reaches the end of the playlist.
- Check that the selected files play and that both their audio and video, if applicable, appear as expected in the OBS preview.
Playlist looping controls playback only; it does not clear copyright or licensing restrictions. If a file does not play, check its format against OBS’s current media-source guide rather than assuming every audio or video format is supported.

Create a YouTube Live stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream using YouTube’s encoder setup workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. The key is a credential that allows an encoder to send a feed to your channel; keep it private.
- In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the corresponding fields. Follow YouTube’s current live encoder settings for the resolution, frame rate, codec, and protocol you choose.
- Start the encoder feed and check the incoming preview in Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast. Confirm that the picture and sound are right, then start the stream using the controls shown there.
Test and monitor the broadcast
Before relying on a continuous run, test with audio and movement similar to the intended stream. Check the incoming preview and public watch page, and monitor YouTube’s stream health and audio/video quality. YouTube recommends a reliable connection and enough upload bandwidth to leave headroom beyond the stream bitrate; other network activity can affect a local broadcast. Use the current settings for your chosen output rather than relying on an old encoder preset.
With OBS running locally, the computer and its network must remain available for the entire broadcast. The reviewed platform guidance does not specify a universal computer requirement or guarantee that a local setup will stay live for 24 hours. A local setup gives you direct control over files and scenes, while making you responsible for keeping the encoder and connection running.

Copyright, interruptions, and the replay
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Its copyright guidance for live streams says streams may be interrupted or terminated when third-party content is identified. Permission to use music does not necessarily prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Resolve licensing and any allowlisting requirements with the rights owner before going live; do not treat a successful technical test as proof of clearance.

Troubleshooting
- VLC Video source is missing: install VLC, then check OBS again; the VLC source depends on VLC being installed.
- The playlist ends instead of restarting: open the VLC Video source properties and check that Loop Playlist is enabled.
- YouTube does not show an incoming preview: verify that the stream URL and key in OBS match the stream selected in Live Control Room, then check the encoder connection and OBS output settings.
- The preview has no sound or the media will not play: confirm the file is compatible with the current OBS media-source guide and that the source’s audio reaches the OBS output.
- The stream health is poor or the feed drops: check the connection and available upload capacity, reduce competing network use, and follow YouTube’s recommended settings for the selected resolution and protocol.
- A copyright notice interrupts the stream: stop and address the claim with the relevant rights owner. Confirm both that your permission covers the broadcast and whether the channel needs Content ID allowlisting; do not try to evade a restriction by switching accounts or changing the media source.
