How do I livestream Indian classical music on YouTube with OBS?
OBS encodes your scene and sends it to YouTube using the stream’s server URL and stream key. YouTube Studio provides a preview and stream-health information before you make the broadcast public. The workflow is the same general encoder setup for Indian classical music as for other programming; the reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish a separate technical setup rule for India.

1. Enable live access and prepare the program
- Enable livestreaming in advance. Verify the channel and turn on live streaming before the planned launch. YouTube for Artists advises enabling access at least 24 hours before a first live stream. Check the current status in YouTube Studio because access and interface labels can change.
- Choose the format. Decide whether OBS will carry a live performance, a playlist of recordings, or a looped audiovisual program. Prepare the scenes, audio sources, transitions, and any artwork or video you intend to show.
- Clear the rights for everything in the program. Recordings, performances, compositions, and visual elements can each raise rights questions. A traditional or classical composition is not automatically free to use: verify rights for the specific composition and recording, and coordinate with the label or distributor where relevant. The available guidance does not establish a specific legal conclusion for India; seek India-specific legal advice if you need it.
2. Create the stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream using an encoder.
- Open the stream’s settings and copy the YouTube server URL and stream key.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone with it may be able to send an encoder feed to your channel.
3. Connect OBS and test the feed
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select the YouTube service, and enter the server URL and stream key if the fields are shown. Interface wording can vary by OBS version; use the server URL and key supplied for the specific YouTube stream.
- Set up the OBS scene and audio sources, then start streaming from OBS. YouTube creates the watch page when the encoder begins sending content.
- Before sharing the link or going public, check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages. Confirm both picture and sound, then listen to the public output when available.
Which OBS settings should I use?
Choose settings your computer can encode and your outbound connection can sustain continuously. YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS for encoder streaming, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; it says not to exceed four seconds. Its bitrate figures below are recommendations for the specified H.264 formats, not guarantees that your connection can maintain them.

- Test with representative content. A mostly static album-art scene and a live concert camera have different visual complexity, but both need a stable, tested encode.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the test and monitor the actual output for dropped frames, audio problems, or interruptions.
- An Ethernet connection to the router is an optional way to connect the streaming computer. YouTube requires adequate outbound connectivity, not a wired connection, and Ethernet does not guarantee that outages will be prevented.
Can I run a 24/7 YouTube music livestream?
“24/7” is a programming objective, not a guarantee that one broadcast will stay uninterrupted or be archived in full. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. That is archive guidance, not evidence that YouTube necessarily ends a stream at 12 hours.
For a continuous channel, plan successive sessions rather than relying on one indefinite broadcast. Decide who or what will start the next session, how you will notice a dropped encoder feed, and how you will verify that the next session is live. If preserving the program matters, make a local recording and check that the file continues growing while the stream runs. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance explains the archive limitation.

Will YouTube interrupt my live stream for copyright?
It can. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it when a match is detected. An archived live video can also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast. A license does not necessarily prevent an automated live interruption: YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party material to ask the rights owner to add the channel to the Content ID allowlist.
