HMD launched the Vibe 2 Pro 5G in India on September 29, 2026, positioning it as an Android 16 phone with Indus, an AI assistant from Sarvam AI. Reported Indian prices start at ₹14,999 under a limited-time launch offer, against a listed price of ₹15,999. The “$166” framing is a rounded conversion of that rupee offer—not a verified US price or evidence that the phone is available in the United States.

What does “Indian AI assistant” mean on this phone?
The assistant named in Vibe 2 Pro launch coverage is Indus by Sarvam AI. The report describes it as supporting more than 22 Indian languages and helping with tasks such as drafting content, answering questions and planning. Those are product descriptions in launch coverage, not independently tested results on this handset.
Sarvam introduced Indus on February 20, 2026, as a limited-beta interface to its models, powered at the time by what the company called its “105B sovereign model.” Sarvam said access was gradually rolling out because compute capacity was limited. That launch description provides context for Indus, but it does not confirm the phone-specific setup, current beta access conditions, or that every detail of the service is unchanged in this integration.

There is relevant earlier partnership context, but it concerns the Vibe 2 5G rather than this Pro launch. TechCrunch reported in May 2026 that HMD’s earlier Vibe 2 5G came with the Indus app. In that interview, HMD CEO and vice president for India and APAC Ravi Kunwar said: “With this partnership, the first thing we want to do is get the Indus app to consumers,” said Ravi Kunwar, HMD’s CEO and vice president for India and APAC, in an interview with TechCrunch. “Once they start using it, we will move to phase two to focus on driving more traction and stickiness. Right now, by preloading the app, we want to be more accessible to users,” he said.

Do not confuse Indus with HMD’s feature-phone AI announcement
HMD made a separate announcement in March 2026 about AI for smart feature phones. That assistant was described as responding to simple voice commands for actions such as making calls, setting alarms, turning on the torch and answering simple questions. It is not the same announcement as Indus on the Vibe 2 Pro, and those device-control features should not be assumed to work through Indus on this smartphone.

What to check before buying
- Confirm the live India price and configuration on the retailer’s listing; the launch offer was reported as limited-time.
- Check whether Indus is available to you and how it is accessed on the Vibe 2 Pro. The launch description does not settle installation, account, network or offline requirements.
- Read the phone’s current service and privacy information before using an assistant with personal or sensitive material; phone-specific terms were not established in the launch reporting.
- Weigh the listed hardware against your needs, but do not infer real-world speed, camera quality or battery endurance from specifications alone.
