Check that your channel can go live
- Verify the channel. Complete YouTube’s channel verification process if you have not already done so.
- Check for restrictions. Confirm the channel has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days.
- Enable live streaming in advance. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave enablement until the planned launch time. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup help.
Choose how to keep the stream running
Software encoder on a computer
YouTube lists OBS Studio among its verified encoders. In this setup, the computer plays or composes the prepared scene, and the encoder sends it to YouTube. The computer and its internet connection must remain available for the stream to continue. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains how to connect an encoder and preview the feed, but does not establish one universal bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or 24/7 recovery setting for this cabin use case. Check the current documentation for your encoder and the capabilities of your source and connection rather than treating an arbitrary setting as a YouTube requirement.
Standalone hardware encoder
A hardware encoder is another way to send a feed without relying on a software encoder. YouTube’s verified-encoder material lists the AJA HELO Plus; its listed features include YouTube Live output and PlayToStream for prerecorded media. It is an optional appliance, not a prerequisite. Create the YouTube stream and connect your encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and set its title, description, audience, and visibility as appropriate for your channel.
- In the stream setup, locate the server URL and stream key. Copy them into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start the encoder’s output. Wait for YouTube to receive the feed and show a preview in Live Control Room.
- Inspect the picture and listen to the audio in the preview. If YouTube presents a separate go-live control, use it after checking the preview. The exact labels can vary with YouTube’s current interface and stream setup.
- For a scheduled launch, confirm the stream is set to the intended visibility and timing before starting. Do not assume that a connected encoder alone has made the stream public.

Run a practical trial through the same source, encoder, network, and YouTube setup you intend to use. Check the feed in YouTube’s preview rather than relying only on the local playback window.

Plan for the 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24-hour session exceeds that stated condition, so do not promise yourself or viewers that one complete 24-hour broadcast will become a single automatic replay. Make the channel’s contribution clear
Having permission to use footage and sound does not guarantee monetization eligibility.
