Choose Castr if you need a playlist that can loop continuously or want to schedule prerecorded video to multiple destinations from a cloud workflow. Choose StreamYard if you need a scheduled YouTube broadcast with a browser-based studio workflow and the option to publish an announcement in advance. Both services support prerecorded video on YouTube; their scheduling, looping, destination, and duration options differ. How Castr handles prerecorded YouTube streams
Build a playlist and choose how it starts
Castr’s guide describes creating a prerecorded stream, adding MP4 files from a computer or cloud storage, or selecting videos already in Castr’s hosting library. You can arrange multiple clips and toggle individual clips on or off before adding destinations and enabling the relevant platform toggles. Castr says the prerecorded feature is available on all plans, but file size and media-count limits depend on the plan. Check the current Castr pricing page for the limits that apply to your account.
Castr documents two scheduling modes: Infinite Loop starts immediately and repeats the playlist; Schedule Date Time starts at the date and time you choose. Destinations and plan limits
Castr’s prerecorded materials describe streaming to YouTube and other social platforms, custom RTMP destinations, and an embedded website player. Its product page also describes MP4 uploads or Dropbox imports, playlists, replay hosting, and plan-dependent duration, storage, and concurrent-stream allocations. Those allocations can change by tier; consult the current Castr prerecorded streaming page and pricing table rather than relying on an assumed file or stream limit.
How StreamYard handles prerecorded YouTube streams
Schedule a video and choose whether to announce it
StreamYard’s workflow lets you select a video from your computer or a previous StreamYard broadcast, choose destinations, set a date and time, and enter a title and description. An optional announcement post can provide an advance post and shareable link. For YouTube, StreamYard says the link is created at the announcement post time; without a scheduled announcement, it appears when the stream goes live.
Plan announcement timing carefully: StreamYard says you cannot add an announcement after creating the scheduled stream or change its time afterward. You can replace the selected video before the stream goes live. See the official StreamYard prerecorded streaming guide for the workflow.

Duration, concurrency, and advance destinations
StreamYard’s prerecorded help article lists maximum video lengths of two hours on Core, four hours on Advanced, and eight hours on Team and Business. It lists up to five concurrent scheduled prerecorded streams on Core, ten on Advanced, and unlimited scheduled prerecorded streams on Team and Business; scheduling is available up to 365 days in advance. The current pricing page confirms two hours for Core and four hours for Advanced. Plan inclusions and prices can change, so check StreamYard pricing alongside the help-page limits.
For advance scheduling, StreamYard lists Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and StreamYard On-Air as supported destinations. Its scheduling guide says advance scheduling is not available for X, Instagram, or custom RTMP destinations. Which workflow should you use?
Pick Castr for a looping playlist
If the channel should begin now and keep cycling through several clips, Castr’s documented Infinite Loop mode is the directly relevant option. Confirm its current plan limits against the total file size, number of clips, destinations, and duration you need. A scheduled start at a particular date and time is a separate mode.

Pick StreamYard when the announcement is part of the event
If viewers need a YouTube link before airtime, StreamYard’s announcement option is useful because its documentation ties link creation to the announcement time. Schedule it early enough for your audience, and make the announcement decision before creating the scheduled stream.

Check the maximum video duration and current plan allowance, whether you need an advance announcement, which destinations can be scheduled, and whether the workflow supports a single file or a playlist. The official documentation does not provide a controlled comparison of reliability, stream quality, ease of use, or audience growth, so those should not be treated as established advantages for either product.
