Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUse a browser automation script to open the dashboard, wait for its content to render, and save a PNG; then run that script on a recurring schedule with a scheduler such as GitHub Actions. Playwright and Puppeteer both support page screenshots, with options for full-page capture, while Puppeteer also documents element screenshots. The right capture scope and readiness check depend on how your dashboard works.
Choose what the PNG should contain
- Viewport: captures the visible browser area. Choose this for a consistent, fixed-size report image.
- Full page: captures the page’s full scrollable area. Playwright and Puppeteer document full-page screenshots; Puppeteer exposes a
fullPageoption. See Playwright screenshot documentation and Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() reference. - One panel: capture a particular dashboard element when the output should contain only a chart, table, or other section. Puppeteer documents
ElementHandle.screenshot()in its element screenshot reference.
Set a deliberate viewport and capture area so scheduled images remain comparable and readable. There is no universally correct dashboard size; choose one that fits the intended destination and validate the result.

Capture a dashboard with Playwright
Install Playwright in a Node.js project and create a script such as capture.mjs. This example writes a full-page PNG. Replace the URL and readiness condition with values appropriate to your dashboard.

import { chromium } from 'playwright';
const browser = await chromium.launch({ headless: true });
const page = await browser.newPage({
viewport: { width: 1440, height: 1000 }
});
try {
await page.goto('https://example.com/dashboard', {
waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded',
timeout: 60_000
});
// Replace this with a selector that appears when your dashboard is ready.
await page.locator('[data-dashboard-ready="true"]').waitFor({
state: 'visible',
timeout: 30_000
});
await page.screenshot({ path: 'dashboard.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
The selector in this example is illustrative; your dashboard may not expose one. Choose a condition tied to the actual data or chart rendering, and test it against real scheduled runs. A page navigation event alone does not guarantee that asynchronous dashboard data has finished loading. Playwright documents screenshot options and examples at its screenshot guide.

Capture only one element
When using Puppeteer, locate the required element and call its screenshot method rather than saving the entire page:
const panel = await page.$('#revenue-chart');
if (!panel) throw new Error('Dashboard chart was not found');
await panel.screenshot({ path: 'revenue-chart.png' });
Use the dashboard’s actual selector. Puppeteer documents element capture at ElementHandle.screenshot(). Its page screenshot options document PNG as the default image type; specify a path to save the output, and use the full-page option when you need scrollable content. See Puppeteer screenshot options.

Run the capture on a schedule
A screenshot script does not schedule itself. Configure a recurring automation workflow to install or access its browser dependencies, run the script, and save or deliver the generated PNG. The appropriate scheduler, timezone, frequency, and destination depend on your environment.
One documented route is a GitHub Actions workflow using shot-scraper; its documentation describes taking screenshots and writing results back to a repository: shot-scraper GitHub Actions documentation. A third-party GitHub Marketplace screenshot action page includes cron examples, including a daily midnight UTC example: Marketplace action page. Treat that as an example rather than official GitHub scheduling guidance; check the current official scheduler syntax and operational constraints before relying on a workflow.

Decide these workflow details
- Frequency and timezone: choose when the dashboard data is expected to be current, and make clear whether the schedule uses UTC or another timezone.
- Access: determine how the runner reaches the dashboard and authenticates. Store credentials as secrets in the chosen automation platform rather than embedding them in source code.
- Output: specify where the PNG goes, how long it should be retained, and whether each run overwrites the previous image or creates a dated file.
- Failure visibility: arrange for failed runs to be visible in the scheduler or notification system so a missing or stale image is not mistaken for a successful capture.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For a PNG, call the API with the dashboard URL and your access key; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for setup and options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot"
-d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY
--data-urlencode url=https://example.com/dashboard
-o dashboard.png
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of these steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers indicate the page verdict and whether the shot was billed. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.
Troubleshoot missing or inconsistent PNGs
- The image shows a spinner or incomplete charts: the capture ran before the dashboard finished rendering. Wait for a dashboard-specific ready selector or data condition; validate it rather than assuming that navigation completion means all content is ready.
- Expected content is below the fold: use full-page capture, or capture the specific element if only one panel is required. Check that the dashboard actually renders the content in the browser before capturing.
- The script cannot reach the dashboard: check the runner’s network access, URL, authentication, and required secrets. These are environment-specific; a local browser’s access does not prove a hosted runner can reach the same page.
- The scheduled job runs at an unexpected time: verify the scheduler’s timezone and current schedule syntax. A cron example written in UTC may not match a local-time expectation.
- The PNG is hard to read or changes size: set a consistent viewport and capture scope, then compare repeated output. Choose dimensions for the intended display rather than relying on an unspecified default.
- The job succeeds but the image is absent: confirm the script’s output path and that the workflow uploads, commits, or otherwise retains that file. Taking a screenshot and storing it are separate tasks.
Reliability, performance, and cost considerations
Browser capture makes the browser render the dashboard, so the image reflects the page state available to that run. Data freshness, animation, lazy-loaded content, network delays, and authentication can all affect what appears. A full-page capture can produce a taller image than a viewport capture; use element capture when the whole page is not needed. Test the workflow at its intended schedule and inspect the saved files, especially after dashboard changes.

Can I save just one chart instead of the entire dashboard?
Yes. Puppeteer documents element screenshots; select the chart element and save its screenshot rather than capturing the page.

Does a successful page load mean the dashboard is ready to capture?
Not necessarily. Dashboard data and charts may render after navigation, so use and validate a readiness condition tied to the page.
