Check the preview before saving. If the page gets clipped, first try landscape orientation, a wider paper size, or smaller margins rather than reducing scale.
Save a webpage as a readable PDF
- Open the webpage, then open your browser’s print dialog. In Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. In Firefox, open the menu and choose Print. Other browsers and operating systems may use different menus or shortcuts.
- Choose the browser’s PDF destination. In Firefox, select Save to PDF from the destination dropdown.
- Expand the additional print settings and find Scale. Choose Actual size or enter 100%, if offered, to avoid reducing the page to fit the printable area. Edge documents Actual size as printing without scaling and also offers custom scaling.
- Inspect the preview: check text size, page count, and whether content is cut off at the edges.
- When the preview looks right, save or print to the PDF destination.
Control labels and available settings differ by browser version and operating system, so use your print preview to confirm the result.

Fix clipping without shrinking the type
At Actual size, a page designed for a wide screen may extend beyond the paper. Before lowering the scale, make more room for the content:

- Choose a wider paper size: available choices depend on the browser, operating system, and print destination.
- Reduce margins: this gives the webpage more printable area. Preview again to ensure content is not too close to the edge.
These adjustments do not guarantee that every page will fit at 100%. If the content is still wider than the available page, you may need to accept some scaling or use a different print view.

Why a PDF can look different from the webpage
A browser may scale content to fit the selected paper area. The room available depends on paper size, orientation, margins, and space reserved for headers and footers. A website may also use print-specific styling, so its PDF layout can differ from what you see onscreen. Mozilla notes that webpages can be set up to appear differently on paper; Chrome’s documentation describes printed pages as a paged-media layout, including browser-generated margin content.
Browser-added headers and footers can take up space or overlap content. If your print dialog offers a header-and-footer control, turn it off and check the preview. Chrome for Developers documented that Chrome 131 supports CSS-generated content in page margins; that version-specific detail does not establish identical behavior across every browser or version.

Choose settings based on the result you need

Troubleshooting
The text is too small, but nothing is cut off
Change Scale to Actual size or 100%, if available, and inspect the preview again. A fit-to-area setting may reduce the page to fit the printable space.

The right edge is clipped at Actual size
Try landscape orientation or a wider paper size, then reduce margins if necessary. If the layout still exceeds the paper width, some scaling or a different print view may be unavoidable.
Headers or footers take space or overlap the page
Turn off the browser’s header-and-footer option, if the dialog provides one, and review the preview. Browser-added margin content may otherwise occupy printable space.

Ads and navigation crowd the useful content
Try Firefox’s Simplified format when available or Edge’s Immersive Reader on supported sites. These views can change the page’s appearance, so check the result before saving.

Look for a print-background setting and enable it if you want the page’s backgrounds preserved. Recheck the preview because support and results depend on browser settings and the site’s print styling.
