To convert a Shopify product page to PDF with PDFShift, send its public URL as the source to PDFShift’s v3 conversion endpoint, authenticate with your API key in the X-API-Key header, and save the response body as a PDF. This is an API workflow, not a Shopify-specific app; inspect the resulting file because the available documentation does not guarantee how every storefront renders.
What you need
- The public URL of the Shopify product page you want to save.
- A PDFShift API key.
- A way to make an HTTP request and write its response to a file. The examples below use Python and Node.js; the request can also be made with cURL.
PDFShift documents converting a URL or raw HTML to PDF. The endpoint used in its examples is https://api.pdfshift.io/v3/convert/pdf, with the API key sent in the X-API-Key header. See the PDFShift site and its documentation for the service details.

Convert the product page URL to a PDF
- Open the Shopify product page and copy its public URL.
- Put the URL in the request’s
sourcefield and authenticate with your PDFShift API key. - Save the successful response body with a
.pdfextension. - Open the PDF and check that it includes the product title, images, price, description, and any other information you need.
Python example
Install the requests package if it is not already available, then save this as product_to_pdf.py. Replace the placeholders with your API key and product URL.

The request shape follows PDFShift’s documented Python example: send JSON containing source, then write the response content to a file. The timeout in this example is a client-side setting, not a stated PDFShift guarantee.

This version uses Node’s built-in fetch and file-writing support, so it does not require the Needle library used in PDFShift’s example.

Run this as an ES module in a Node.js environment with built-in fetch. Keep the API key out of publicly distributed code; load it from an environment variable for production use.

Check and adjust the PDF
Shopify product pages can include content that is rendered by storefront scripts or loaded as the page is viewed. The available PDFShift materials describe URL conversion and customization, but do not verify results for particular Shopify themes, scripts, or gated pages. Inspect the output rather than assuming it matches the browser view.

- Confirm the title, price, description, and variant details are present and readable.
- Check that product images have loaded and are not cropped or missing.
- Review page breaks, margins, and whether important information is split across pages.
- If the layout needs adjustment, use PDFShift’s documented CSS customization. Its CSS guide says the
cssparameter can accept CSS content or a URL; see PDFShift’s documentation for the supported request format.
Troubleshooting
The request fails authentication
Check that the key is a valid PDFShift API key and that it is sent in the X-API-Key header, not in the URL or request body. Make sure the header name is spelled exactly.
The response is not a readable PDF
Check the HTTP status before saving the body. An API error response may be text or JSON rather than PDF data; use raise_for_status() in Python or check response.ok in Node.js, as shown above.

Product content is missing or incomplete
First open the product URL in a normal browser and confirm that the content is publicly accessible. Then inspect what the PDF contains. If the page’s print layout needs changes, try PDFShift’s documented CSS customization. The cited materials do not establish a guaranteed fix for content that depends on a particular theme, script, or access restriction.

Review the PDF’s page breaks, margins, image sizing, and text wrapping. Use custom CSS to adjust PDF presentation, and generate the PDF again to check the effect.
