Then separately review or delete Gemini Apps Activity and decide whether to turn off Keep Activity. These controls do different jobs: disconnecting an app does not erase Gemini activity already stored, and deleting Gemini activity does not remove information from Gmail, Photos, or another connected service.
Disconnect apps you do not want Gemini to use
- Open Gemini’s Connected Apps settings. Review the services listed for your account and disconnect any you do not want Gemini to access. Google’s Connected Apps help page describes the user-facing controls.
- Check the list for the Gemini surface you use. Available connections can vary by device, country, language, and account, so the list may not be identical for everyone.
- For a work or school account, check with your administrator. Workspace administrators may control which connections or privacy settings are available.
Disconnecting a service limits Gemini’s access through that connection; it does not necessarily prevent Gemini from using public information from certain Google services. Google describes that public-information use separately from Connected Apps, and which services are involved—and whether Keep Activity must be on—can vary.

Review Gemini Apps Activity separately
Connected Apps controls which services Gemini can access. Gemini Apps Activity controls the handling of activity associated with your Gemini use. Signed-in personal-account users can review and delete activity and change Keep Activity in Gemini or Google My Activity. Work or school users may not be able to change retention settings if their administrator controls them.

What turning off Keep Activity does—and does not do
Google says turning Keep Activity off stops future chats from being used to improve Google AI. It does not stop Gemini from processing prompts to generate answers, nor does it end all safety-related processing. Google’s Privacy Notice says some handling can continue, including processing involving human reviewers. Treat this as Google’s description of its practices, not as a promise that no data is processed.

Remove existing Gemini activity and connected-source access
If you want Gemini to stop using a connected source going forward and remove related Gemini activity already associated with your account, handle both controls:
- In Gemini Apps Activity or Google My Activity, find and delete the relevant Gemini chats or activity.
- In Connected Apps settings, disconnect the source app.
These actions do not delete the original source data. Deleting Gemini activity does not erase an email from Gmail or an image from Google Photos; deleting or updating source data does not, by itself, delete Gemini activity. Google says a source-data change can take days to affect Gemini’s experience.

Understand what connected-app data may be used for
Google says eligible connected-service data can help personalize Gemini, support actions or recommendations, and improve Google services, including generative AI models. Its documentation distinguishes source content from summaries, excerpts, generated media, and inferences. Google says it does not train models directly on users’ Gmail inboxes, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, or other Workspace apps, or on Google Photos imagery and audio. However, summaries or excerpts from relevant emails and files, as well as inferences, may be used; in some cases, a summary may amount to the email or file itself.

Before review, Google describes steps such as unlinking interactions from the Google Account and reducing personal information, subject to exceptions for abuse or harm. See Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub for its account of data use and review. Google advises against connecting apps that contain personal or confidential information you would not want used for model improvement or seen by a reviewer. You can use Gemini without connecting apps.

Choose the controls that match your goal

When the controls are missing or behave differently
- The app is not listed: Connected Apps availability varies by device, country, language, and account. A service may not be available in the Gemini surface or context you are using.
- You cannot change activity settings: If you use a work or school account, your administrator may manage retention or access settings. Ask your organization’s Workspace administrator what is enabled.
- You disconnected an app but still see related activity: Disconnection and activity deletion are separate. Review Gemini Apps Activity if you want to remove stored Gemini interactions.
- You deleted source content but Gemini’s experience has not changed yet: Google says changes can take days to affect that experience. Review activity and app access separately rather than assuming the source deletion removed either one.
