1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesOn Windows 11, Phone Link can turn Do Not Disturb on or off on a linked Android phone with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + D. If the shortcut does nothing, the cause is usually on the phone: another app or system mode is controlling Do Not Disturb, or Do Not Disturb access for Link to Windows is turned off. This guide covers the toggle first, then the phone-side checks in the order you are most likely to need them.
Before you start
Microsoft’s general Phone Link requirements call for an Android phone running Android 10 or later and recommend the latest version of Windows 11 for the best experience. The Do Not Disturb troubleshooting described below applies specifically to phones running Android 15 or later. The Do Not Disturb toggle is an Android feature. It does not apply to iPhone.

Phone Link must already be set up and showing your phone as linked. If you have not done that yet, follow Microsoft’s Phone Link requirements and setup page first.

Turn Do Not Disturb on or off from the PC
- Open Phone Link on the Windows 11 PC and confirm that the Android phone is connected.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + D. Microsoft lists this as the Phone Link shortcut labelled “Do not disturb on/off (Android only)” in its keyboard shortcuts for Phone Link table.
- Check the phone to confirm that its Do Not Disturb state has changed. Press the shortcut again to reverse the change.
The shortcut controls the phone, not the PC. Windows 11’s own Do Not Disturb setting is a separate control, covered at the end of this guide.

If the shortcut does not respond
Work through these checks in order. Each one rules out a different cause.
Check whether another app or mode is in control
Microsoft says the Do Not Disturb control may not behave as expected on Android 15 or later when another app or mode is managing Do Not Disturb. Sleep or Focus mode are the examples Microsoft gives. If one of these is active, the phone’s Do Not Disturb state is being set by that mode, and a change from Phone Link may be overridden or ignored.
On the phone, check for active modes and schedules and decide which one should take precedence. Adjust that control as appropriate, then try the shortcut again.

Check the Link to Windows permission on the phone
Microsoft also names disabled Do Not Disturb access for Link to Windows as a reason the control may not work. To check it on the phone:
- Open Settings, then go to Do Not Disturb.
- Open Mode, or Schedules, depending on your device.
- Turn on the Link to Windows toggle if it is shown.
Menu names and locations vary by device and Android version. If you cannot find these options, search the phone’s Settings for “Do Not Disturb” and look for an entry that refers to Link to Windows.
Confirm the phone is still linked
If the shortcut does nothing at all, confirm in Phone Link that the phone still shows as connected. A disconnected phone cannot receive the command. Reconnect it using the steps in Microsoft’s setup guide.

Missing notifications are a separate problem
A notification that does not reach the PC does not prove that Do Not Disturb is on. Microsoft’s notification troubleshooting page lists several separate causes, and each needs its own check.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Notification permissions
Phone Link notifications depend on permissions on both devices. Microsoft says Android 13 introduced a runtime notification permission that Phone Link needs for data transfer and for sending notifications. Review the notification settings in Phone Link under Settings > Features > Notifications, and confirm the matching permission on the phone. Microsoft describes the setup in Setting up notifications in the Phone Link.
Battery and focus settings on the PC
Microsoft’s notification troubleshooting guidance names Windows Battery saver and Focus Assist as possible reasons notifications may not appear on the PC. Turn off either setting temporarily to test whether it is the cause. Microsoft also recommends checking Link to Windows battery optimization on some Android devices, so that the phone does not stop the app in the background.

Sensitive notifications on Android 15
On Android 15, sensitive notifications may be hidden from Phone Link on purpose. In that case, you must view them directly on the phone. A missing sensitive notification is expected behaviour, not a fault in the link. The troubleshooting notifications in the Phone Link page covers these checks in more detail.

Turning Do Not Disturb on or off in Windows 11 does not change the phone’s Do Not Disturb state. The Phone Link shortcut and the Windows setting are separate controls. Microsoft’s Phone Link calls troubleshooting material also lists Windows Do Not Disturb as a possible reason that incoming call notifications are silenced. That is a PC-side notification issue, and the fix is on the PC, not the phone.
| Control | Where it lives | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Ctrl + Shift + D shortcut | Phone Link on the PC | Do Not Disturb on the linked Android phone |
| Link to Windows Do Not Disturb access | Android phone, Settings > Do Not Disturb | Whether Phone Link can change Do Not Disturb on the phone |
| Sleep or Focus mode, or another app | Android phone | Can override Do Not Disturb, as described by Microsoft for Android 15 or later |
| Windows Do Not Disturb | Windows 11 notification settings | PC notifications, including calls, but not the phone’s Do Not Disturb |
Most failures come from the phone side. If the shortcut responds but the phone’s Do Not Disturb does not follow it, start with the mode and permission checks above.
