To send WooCommerce order updates through WhatsApp with WANotifier, connect a WhatsApp Business API number, install and authorize WANotifier’s WooCommerce plugin, then create an approved message template and a transactional notification linked to a store event. Check the template’s order-data mapping and current message charges before switching the notification on.
What you need before you start
- A WordPress site with WooCommerce installed.
- A WANotifier account and its WooCommerce integration plugin.
- Access to a phone number enabled for the WhatsApp Business API. A regular WhatsApp app by itself is not the documented integration route.
The cited setup materials do not specify a universal minimum WordPress or WooCommerce version. Check the plugin’s current compatibility information for your site rather than assuming a particular version. WANotifier says its plugin is free; WhatsApp Business API messages can still incur charges.

Connect WooCommerce to WANotifier
- Connect your WhatsApp number. Create or sign in to WANotifier and connect a number with WhatsApp Business API access. WANotifier says some existing WhatsApp Business App users may be eligible for its Coexistence feature; confirm current eligibility and availability with the provider instead of assuming it applies to every number.
- Install the plugin. In your WordPress admin, install and activate the WANotifier WooCommerce integration plugin. WANotifier describes the plugin as free.
- Authorize the store connection. Open the WANotifier integration in WooCommerce settings and connect your existing WANotifier account. Complete the authorization if you are redirected to WANotifier.
- Create and submit a template. In WANotifier, make the WhatsApp message template your notification will use and submit it for WhatsApp approval. WANotifier’s help documentation says a notification requires an approved template.
- Configure the notification. Create a Transactional / Integration / API notification in WANotifier. Select a WooCommerce trigger, choose WooCommerce as the recipient source, and select the customer billing phone field where appropriate. Map each template variable to the relevant WooCommerce order data, then save.
- Review activity after sending. Use the integration’s available delivery reports and activity logs to inspect message activity. These are monitoring tools, not a guarantee that every message will be delivered.
Choose the store events that should send messages
WANotifier lists order confirmations, payment updates, shipping alerts, abandoned-cart reminders, and subscription-related notices as use cases. Its tutorial gives examples such as a new order, Processing or Completed status, Refunded status, Awaiting Dispatch, and cart abandonment. These are documented examples, not a promise that every trigger is available in every store configuration. Check the trigger list in your connected setup.

For example, an order confirmation should use order details that are available at that point in the checkout flow; a shipping notice should be tied to the relevant dispatch or status event. Confirm each mapped value against an actual order before enabling the workflow for customers.

Templates, notification types, and consent
WANotifier distinguishes event-triggered transactional notifications from bulk broadcast campaigns. Its help page says transactional messages typically use Utility or Authentication templates depending on the message type, and that a WhatsApp-approved template is required. The template’s approved wording and variables need to match the notification you are configuring.
Consent and WhatsApp policy requirements matter when messaging customers. The available WANotifier and WooCommerce documentation establishes the need for an approved template, and WooCommerce’s separate plugin documentation includes an opt-in checkbox; it does not establish the full current Meta policy for every situation. Check current official Meta requirements for opt-in, template use, and any service-window rules before sending. Do not treat plugin configuration alone as proof that your messaging practices meet those requirements.
Costs to check before enabling messages
WANotifier says the integration plugin is free and that WhatsApp Business API messages are chargeable. It says Meta’s rate depends on message type and recipient location, and that it passes through Meta API usage costs without additional markup. Those are vendor statements, not a quoted or independently verified rate. Check current official Meta pricing and WANotifier’s current terms for your destination markets and message types before budgeting.
WANotifier advertises a seven-day trial in its integration materials, but trial availability is an offer that can change; verify it directly before relying on it. Do not infer that a free plugin or trial makes API message delivery free.

WANotifier versus another WooCommerce route
WANotifier is not the only documented route. WooCommerce also documents a separate plugin that uses WhatsApp Cloud API credentials, supports configurable order-status triggers, and includes an opt-in checkbox. That is a distinct implementation path, not a feature or price comparison with WANotifier.
When evaluating either approach, compare how account credentials are managed, which triggers and order fields are available, how templates and recipient consent are handled, what logs are provided, and the software fees plus current WhatsApp charges. The documentation cited here does not establish that one option is cheaper or more reliable.
