To join a Soulmask dedicated server, use the server’s public IP address and game port in the game’s direct-connect screen. Guides most commonly report 8777/UDP as the game port. The server browser uses a separate 27015/UDP query port, so entering 27015 in direct connect will not join the game. If you run the server yourself, forward the required ports to its local address, allow them through the operating-system firewall, and keep the client and server on the same game version.

Port numbers and menu labels are not consistent across every Soulmask build or hosting guide. Treat the server’s startup log and launch configuration as authoritative, especially when they show 7777 instead of 8777 or use a different RCON setting.

Collect these details from the server owner or startup log:
- Public IP address or hostname: the address reachable from outside the server’s local network.
- Game port: reported as 8777/UDP by most current guides, but some configurations use 7777 or another value.
- Password: only if the server was started with one.
- Current game version: your installed client must match the server.
If the server owner gives you an address in the form 203.0.113.25:8777, the number after the colon is the game port. Do not substitute the query port used for listing.

Direct connect: the fastest method
Direct connect is usually the most reliable way to join a newly started or unlisted server because it does not depend on the public server list updating.
- Start Soulmask through Steam and open its online multiplayer area.
- Look for a command named Connect to the server directly. Depending on the patch, guides place it under Online Game or under Private Servers as Connect directly to server.
- Enter the server’s public IP address and game port, such as
203.0.113.25:8777. Use the port shown by the server if it differs. - Enter the server password when prompted.
- Submit the connection and wait for the world to load. A first connection can take longer while the client downloads or validates server data.
The exact menu wording is patch-dependent. If you cannot find one label, check the other location rather than assuming direct connect was removed.
Joining through the server browser or Steam Favorites
The server browser relies on a query service separate from the game connection. Guides commonly identify 27015/UDP as the query port. A server can therefore be reachable by direct IP while still absent from the list.
Wait for listing
New servers may take approximately 5 to 15 minutes to appear after startup. During that window, use direct connect with the game port instead of repeatedly refreshing the browser.
Add the server in Steam’s server browser
- Open Steam’s View menu and choose Game Servers (the wording can vary by Steam client version).
- Open the Favorites tab and choose Add a Server.
- Enter the server IP and query port, for example
203.0.113.25:27015. - Save the entry, refresh the list, and launch Soulmask from the result if it responds.
Use 27015 only for this listing or query step. Direct game connections still use the game port reported by the server.

Ports and what each one does
The following values are common reports rather than guarantees for every release. Confirm them in the server’s launch line or configuration.

Older guides also show 27016 for queries or 27020 for RCON, and containerized servers may choose entirely different pairs. A port number copied from another installation is not evidence that your instance uses it.
If you run the server at home
Give the server computer a stable local address
Port forwarding rules point to a device on your home network. Reserve a DHCP address for the server in your router, or configure a static LAN address on the machine. Without a stable address, a reboot can move the server and silently break the forwarding rule.
Create router forwarding rules
- Sign in to the router’s administration page.
- Open the section named Port Forwarding, NAT, or Virtual Server.
- Forward the game port shown in the server configuration as UDP to the server computer’s LAN address.
- Forward the query port, commonly UDP 27015, if you want browser or Favorites visibility.
- Add the echo port only if your configuration requires it. Because guides disagree about its protocol and purpose, use the protocol and bind address displayed by your server.
- If you enabled RCON, forward its TCP port only when remote administration is necessary. A common example is TCP 19000.
- Save the rules and restart the router or server only if the router requests it.
Do not forward every port in a range “just in case.” Each unnecessary exposed service increases the attack surface and makes conflicts harder to diagnose.
Allow the same ports through the operating-system firewall
Router forwarding and host-firewall permission are separate controls. On the server computer, create inbound rules for the configured game and query UDP ports. Add the echo or RCON rule only when enabled. If the firewall supports program-based rules, allow the Soulmask server executable on the relevant network profiles and verify that the rule applies to the active profile.

Check for carrier-grade NAT or double NAT
If forwarding appears correct but players outside your home cannot connect, the internet provider may be using carrier-grade NAT, or a second router may sit between your server and the public internet. In that situation, the address shown on the inner router is not directly reachable. Put the routers into a single-router arrangement, forward through both layers when appropriate, or ask the provider whether a public IPv4 address is available.
Example Windows launch configuration
One published Windows example starts the server with the following parameters. It is an example, not a universal command line; parameter names and supported values can change between builds.

Binding RCON to 0.0.0.0 makes it listen on all interfaces; if remote access is not needed, bind it to a local interface or disable RCON. The example uses a 60-player setting, but other guides report different defaults and caps, so check the build rather than treating 60 as a guaranteed limit.
Installing or updating a dedicated server
Guides report SteamCMD application IDs of 3017300 for Linux and 3017310 for Windows. Those IDs have not been confirmed against an official Steam listing, so verify the identifier in the installation instructions or startup output used by your server package before scripting an unattended install.
When a game update is released, update both sides:
- Update the player client through Steam and allow the download to finish.
- Stop the dedicated server cleanly.
- Run the server’s SteamCMD update procedure for its operating system and app ID.
- Restart the server, inspect its log for the loaded build, and then try to connect again.
A client that is newer or older than the server commonly produces a version-mismatch error, a failed handshake, or an apparent return to the multiplayer menu.

Diagnosing “server not showing”
Direct connect works, browser does not
- Confirm that the query rule is UDP and uses the configured query port, commonly 27015.
- Check that the operating-system firewall permits the query process.
- Wait up to 15 minutes after startup for listing propagation.
- Confirm that the server is actually running online mode and has not stopped during startup.
Neither direct connect nor the browser works
- Read the server log and copy the displayed game port and bind address.
- Test the exact public IP and game port, not the LAN address, from a player outside the home network.
- Verify the router rule points to the server’s current static LAN address.
- Check the host firewall and any security suite for blocked UDP traffic.
- Confirm the client and server versions match.
- Look for another service already using the same port.
Testing from inside the same home network can be misleading when the router lacks NAT loopback. Have a player on another network test the public address, or use a mobile connection for a controlled test.
Common errors and fixes
“Steam API failed to initialize”
One dedicated-server guide reports that installing the Steam client on the dedicated-server machine resolves this startup error. Restart the server after installing or repairing the Steam client, then check the log for successful API initialization.

Stop guessing at ports first. Compare the client and server build numbers, update both through their normal Steam and SteamCMD paths, and restart. A changed launch parameter or regenerated configuration can also change the effective game or query port.
Another server on the same machine works, but Soulmask does not
Inspect all running game services for port collisions. Two processes cannot reliably share the same game, query, echo, or RCON endpoint. Assign a distinct set of ports to each instance, update its launch line, and create matching firewall and forwarding rules.
The server starts but external players time out
Check the bind address, router destination, and firewall profile in that order. A server bound only to a loopback or incorrect LAN interface will not accept internet traffic even when forwarding appears correct. Also confirm that the public IP has not changed since the owner sent it.
Security and reliability checklist for administrators
- Use different, strong passwords for player access, administrator access, and RCON.
- Do not publish the RCON port unless it is needed; restrict its source addresses whenever the router allows.
- Keep the server operating system, Steam client, SteamCMD files, and Soulmask installation updated.
- Record the effective game, query, echo, and RCON ports from each startup log.
- Retain backups before changing configuration. A commonly reported example uses saves every 300 seconds and backups every 900 seconds, but verify the values in your build.
- Monitor logs after every restart for binding failures, authentication errors, and version warnings.
- Use a static LAN address and document the router rule destination so recovery does not depend on memory.
Direct connect or browser: which should you use?

Use direct connect to determine whether the game service itself is reachable. Treat browser visibility as a separate query-service problem rather than proof that the server is offline.

When someone sends only an IP address, request the missing details before troubleshooting:
- Which port is the game port in the current launch line?
- Is the server password-protected?
- Which Soulmask build is installed?
- Is the address public, or is it a private LAN address?
- Is the server intended to appear in the browser, and which query port is configured?
- Was the server restarted after the latest game update?
These answers distinguish a wrong connection string from a network or software failure and avoid assuming that every installation uses the commonly reported 8777/27015 pair.
Bottom line
Start with direct connect: enter the public IP and the game port printed by the server, most often 8777. If the server should appear in a list, separately allow and forward its query port, most often UDP 27015, then allow time for listing. For self-hosted servers, a stable LAN address, matching router and firewall rules, current client and server versions, and log-based verification matter more than any number copied from a generic guide.
