This works for analog line-level audio; a passive cable does not convert digital audio or speaker-level output.
Check the ports and signal direction
Before connecting anything, confirm that the source device has audio OUT ports and the destination has an AUX or 3.5 mm audio IN. The labels matter: an input-to-input or output-to-output connection will not carry audio as intended. A red-and-white RCA pair is not automatically an output; check the device labels or manual.

For the common RCA OUT to AUX IN setup, choose a cable with two RCA male plugs—usually red and white—and one 3.5 mm stereo male plug. The RCA plugs carry the left and right channels separately; the 3.5 mm plug combines them in a stereo connector for the AUX input. Philips also lists a 3.5 mm male-to-two-RCA male cable format: Philips cable reference.

Match the cable’s connector genders to the actual ports. If your devices have the opposite port arrangement, you may need a cable with different connector ends. Don’t choose by a short listing title alone; verify which end plugs into each device. Connect the devices and select AUX
- Turn the volume down on the destination device before connecting.
- Insert the RCA plugs into the source’s matching audio OUT jacks. Connect red to red and white to white when the jacks and plugs use those colors.
- Insert the 3.5 mm plug into the destination’s AUX or 3.5 mm audio input.
- Select AUX as the destination’s input, then raise the volume gradually.
The Philips manual documents the cable connection, but volume controls and input-selection steps vary by device; use the labels and instructions for your equipment.

Know what a cable can—and cannot—convert
This direct cable hookup is for analog stereo line-level audio, the signal type described in the cited Extron reference. It is not a universal converter. If the RCA jacks carry speaker-level output, or the source provides digital audio, a passive RCA-to-3.5 mm cable is not established as the right solution. Check the source’s audio output type and the destination’s input requirements before connecting.

Then check volume and channel connections. If the source’s output type is digital or speaker-level, you will need a solution designed for that signal rather than assuming a basic cable will convert it.
