Check Compatibility and Prepare Your JBL Device
Before you put a JBL speaker or pair of JBL headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode, take a minute to confirm that the device you want to connect supports the right type of Bluetooth audio. Most recent phones, tablets, laptops, and many smart TVs can pair directly with JBL Bluetooth devices. Older desktop computers, some monitors, projectors, and game consoles may need a Bluetooth audio adapter, USB dongle, or a wired connection instead.
Start by identifying your JBL model, since the controls and supported features vary. A JBL Flip, Charge, Xtreme, Boombox, Clip, Go, Live, Tune, Tour, Endurance, or Quantum model may use different button combinations and may not support the same companion app features. The model name is usually printed near the charging port, on the underside of a speaker, inside a headphone headband, on the earbud charging case, or in the original packaging. If the device has been paired before, you may also see its exact name in your phone’s Bluetooth list.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
Charge your JBL device before pairing. Low battery can cause failed pairing, random disconnects, weak audio, or the device powering off before setup finishes. Use the original USB cable if possible, or a compatible charger that matches the charging port, such as USB-C or Micro-USB. For true wireless JBL earbuds, place both earbuds in the charging case and make sure the case has power. If one earbud is not charged or seated correctly, the earbuds may not pair as a stereo set.
Prepare the device you are connecting to
- Turn on Bluetooth: Enable Bluetooth on your phone, tablet, computer, TV, or adapter before starting pairing mode on the JBL device.
- Stay close: Keep the JBL device within a few feet of the source device during setup. After pairing, you can usually move farther away, but walls and interference reduce range.
- Disconnect old connections: If your JBL speaker or headphones automatically connect to a previous phone or laptop, turn Bluetooth off on that older device or select “Disconnect.”
- Check audio output settings: On computers, TVs, and consoles, pairing may succeed but audio may still play through internal speakers until you select the JBL device as the output.
If your JBL device supports the JBL Portable, JBL PartyBox, or JBL Headphones app, install the correct app from the App Store or Google Play. These apps are not always required for basic Bluetooth pairing, but they can help with firmware updates, button settings, equalizer controls, noise cancellation modes, PartyBoost or Connect+ settings, and battery status. Firmware updates can also improve connection stability, especially with newer phones and operating systems.
Finally, check whether your JBL product is designed for the connection you want. Some JBL speakers support multi-speaker linking through PartyBoost, Connect+, or older Connect technology, but those systems are not all cross-compatible. Some JBL headphones support muloint Bluetooth, allowing connection to two devices at once, while others can only maintain one active connection. Knowing these limits ahead of time makes the actual pairing steps much smoother and prevents chasing a problem that is really a feature mismatch.

Pairing mode makes your JBL speaker or headphones discoverable so a phone, computer, TV, or other Bluetooth device can find it. Start with the JBL device powered on and placed close to the device you want to connect, ideally within a few feet. If this is the first time you have turned on many JBL speakers or headphones, they may enter pairing mode automatically. You’ll usually see a blinking blue LED, hear a pairing tone, or hear a voice prompt such as “Bluetooth pairing.”
How to put a JBL speaker in pairing mode
Most JBL Bluetooth speakers use a dedicated Bluetooth button. This applies to many models in the Flip, Charge, Xtreme, Boombox, Go, Clip, Pulse, and PartyBox lines, though the exact button position varies. Look for the Bluetooth symbol on the top, side, or control panel.
- Press the Power button to turn on the speaker.
- Press the Bluetooth button once.
- Wait for the Bluetooth light to blink, usually blue or white depending on the model.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your phone, computer, TV, or console and select the JBL model name when it appears.
If your speaker reconnects to a previous phone or laptop instead of entering pairing mode, press the Bluetooth button again to make it discoverable. On some JBL PartyBox models, you may need to press and hold the Bluetooth button for a few seconds until the pairing indicator flashes. If the speaker has a display or app-supported controls, the Bluetooth status may also be shown in the JBL Portable or JBL PartyBox app.
How to put JBL headphones or earbuds in pairing mode
JBL headphones and earbuds vary more than speakers because some use physical buttons, some use touch controls, and true wireless earbuds use the charging case. For over-ear and on-ear headphones, turn the headphones on and look for a blinking blue LED. If they do not enter pairing mode automatically, press and hold the Bluetooth or Power button for about 3 to 5 seconds until the indicator flashes or you hear a pairing prompt.

When a JBL device is in pairing mode, it will usually remain discoverable for a limited time. If you do not connect quickly enough, it may stop blinking or reconnect to a saved device. In that case, press the Bluetooth button again or power the JBL device off and back on. For used, borrowed, or previously paired JBL gear, it can help to disconnect it from the old phone or computer first. If you cannot access the old device, use the JBL device’s reset or forget-paired-devices command for your model, then start pairing mode again.
Connect JBL Devices to iPhone, Android, Windows, and Mac
Once your JBL speaker or headphones are in pairing mode, the connection process is handled from the Bluetooth settings on your phone or computer. Keep the JBL device within a few feet of the device you are pairing it with, and wait for its name to appear in the Bluetooth list. Depending on the model, you may see a name such as JBL Flip 6, JBL Charge 5, JBL Tune 660NC, or a shorter model code.
Connect JBL to iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
- Look under Other Devices for your JBL speaker or headphones.
- Tap the JBL device name to connect.
- Wait until it moves to My Devices and shows Connected.
If your JBL device was previously paired but will not reconnect, tap the i icon next to its name, choose Forget This Device, then put the JBL product back into pairing mode and pair it again. For JBL headphones with a microphone, iPhone and iPad should automatically route calls and media audio after pairing. You can change the audio output from Control Center by tapping the AirPlay/audio icon and selecting the JBL device.
Connect JBL to Android
- Open Settings on your Android phone or tablet.
- Go to Connected devices, Connections, or Bluetooth, depending on your device brand.
- Turn on Bluetooth and tap Pair new device if the scan does not start automatically.
- Select your JBL speaker or headphones from the available devices list.
- Confirm any pairing prompt that appears.
On many Android phones, you can tap the gear icon next to the connected JBL device to manage options such as Calls, Media audio, and contact sharing. For headphones, make sure Media audio is enabled if music plays from the phone speaker instead. If you use the JBL Headphones app, pair through Android Bluetooth settings first, then open the app to adjust noise cancellation, gestures, EQ, or firmware settings for supported models.
Connect JBL to Windows
- On Windows 11, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices. On Windows 10, open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Turn Bluetooth on.
- Select Add device, then choose Bluetooth.
- Click your JBL device when it appears.
- Wait for Windows to show that the device is connected.
After pairing, check the sound output if audio does not switch automatically. Click the speaker icon in the taskbar, open the output selector, and choose your JBL speaker or headphones. Some JBL headphones may appear with more than one audio profile, such as a stereo music profile and a hands-free headset profile. For best music quality, choose the stereo output. For calls and meetings, select the headset option only if you need to use the built-in microphone.
Connect JBL to Mac
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Select Bluetooth from the sidebar.
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
- Find your JBL speaker or headphones under nearby devices.
- Click Connect next to the JBL device name.
If your Mac pairs successfully but audio still comes from the internal speakers, open System Settings > Sound and choose the JBL device under Output. For JBL headphones with microphones, you can also select them under Input for video calls. If the device does not appear, turn Bluetooth off and on again on the Mac, restart pairing mode on the JBL device, and make sure it is not already connected to another nearby phone, tablet, or computer.
Pair JBL Speakers or Headphones with a TV or Gaming Device
Many JBL Bluetooth headphones work well with smart TVs, streaming sticks, and some game systems, but support varies by device. Most modern Samsung, LG, Sony, TCL, Hisense, and Vizio smart TVs include Bluetooth audio settings, while older TVs may need a Bluetooth transmitter connected to the optical audio, AUX, or USB port. JBL Bluetooth speakers can also connect to TVs, but lip-sync delay is more noticeable on speakers than on headphones, especially when watching dialogue-heavy shows.

Connect to a smart TV
- Put your JBL speaker or headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode. On many JBL headphones, hold the power or Bluetooth button until the LED flashes blue. On many JBL speakers, press the Bluetooth button until the indicator flashes.
- Open your TV’s settings menu and look for Sound, Audio Output, Bluetooth Speaker List, Bluetooth Audio, or Remote & Accessories.
- Select Pair new device or Add Bluetooth device, then choose your JBL model from the list.
- Confirm the connection and set the TV’s audio output to Bluetooth if it does not switch automatically.
On Android TV and Google TV models, the Bluetooth menu is often under Settings > Remotes & Accessories. On Samsung TVs, check Settings > Sound > Sound Output > Bluetooth Speaker List. On LG webOS TVs, look under Settings > Sound > Sound Out > Bluetooth Device. Menu names change by model year, so if you do not see Bluetooth under sound settings, search the TV settings for “Bluetooth” or check the manual for wireless audio support.
Connect to streaming devices and game consoles
Bluetooth audio support is limited on many gaming devices. A Nintendo Switch supports Bluetooth headphones directly from System Settings > Bluetooth Audio, though microphone use over Bluetooth is not supported. PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 do not usually pair directly with standard Bluetooth headphones, including most JBL models, because they require compatible USB audio devices or licensed wireless headsets. Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One also do not support regular Bluetooth audio for JBL headphones or speakers.
- PlayStation: Use a compatible USB Bluetooth audio adapter, a wired connection to the controller if your JBL headphones support AUX input, or a TV Bluetooth connection.
- Xbox: Use wired headphones through the controller, connect Bluetooth audio through the TV, or use an external transmitter connected to the TV’s optical or headphone output.
- Nintendo Switch: Pair JBL headphones from the Switch Bluetooth Audio menu, or use a USB-C Bluetooth adapter for lower latency and easier switching.
- Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku: Look in the device’s remote, accessory, or Bluetooth audio settings. Some Roku models rely on private listening through the Roku mobile app instead of direct Bluetooth pairing.
If your TV or console does not support Bluetooth audio, a dedicated Bluetooth transmitter is the most reliable workaround. For the best results, choose a transmitter that matches your TV’s audio output and supports low-latency codecs. Plug it into the TV, set the TV audio output to optical, headphone, or external speaker as required, then pair the transmitter with your JBL device. If sound comes from both the TV and JBL device, adjust the TV’s speaker output setting or mute the internal speakers.
When using JBL headphones for gaming or video, expect the built-in microphone to work only in certain setups. Bluetooth headphones often switch to a lower-quality headset mode when the mic is active, and many TVs do not send microphone audio back to consoles or apps. For voice chat, a wired controller connection, console-certified headset, or separate USB microphone is usually more dependable.
Use JBL PartyBoost, Connect+, or Multipoint Features
Many JBL Bluetooth products include extra connection features beyond basic one-device pairing. On speakers, PartyBoost and Connect+ let you link compatible JBL speakers together for louder playback or stereo sound. On some headphones and earbuds, muloint lets you stay connected to two source devices at the same time, such as a laptop and phone. These features are model-specific, so check the model name printed on the device, in the JBL Portable app, JBL Headphones app, or the product manual before trying to link devices.
Use PartyBoost or Connect+ with JBL speakers
JBL PartyBoost and JBL Connect+ are not interchangeable. A PartyBoost speaker usually cannot link with a Connect+ speaker, even if both are from the JBL Flip, Charge, Xtreme, or Boombox families. For example, a JBL Flip 6 uses PartyBoost, while a JBL Flip 4 uses Connect+. If the speakers use different linking systems, they can still pair individually over Bluetooth, but they will not join the same JBL speaker group.
- Pair one JBL speaker with your phone, tablet, or computer using Bluetooth, then start playing audio.
- Turn on the second compatible JBL speaker and keep it nearby.
- Press the PartyBoost or Connect+ button on the speaker that is already playing.
- Press the same button on the second speaker and wait for the connection tone or visual confirmation.
- Open the JBL Portable app if you want to choose Party mode for mirrored sound or Stereo mode for left and right channels, when supported.
For best results, update the speakers in the JBL Portable app before linking them. Keep the speakers within normal Bluetooth range and avoid placing walls, TVs, routers, or metal furniture between them. If one speaker drops out, turn both speakers off, reconnect only the primary speaker to Bluetooth, then add the second speaker again using the PartyBoost or Connect+ button.

Use multipoint on JBL headphones and earbuds
Muloint is available on many newer JBL headphones and earbuds, including select Tour, Live, Tune, and Reflect models. It lets the headset connect to two devices at once, but it does not usually play audio from both devices simultaneously. Instead, the headset switches between them based on active audio or calls. For example, you can watch a video on a laptop and answer an incoming call from your phone through the same JBL headphones.
- Pair the JBL headphones or earbuds with the first device, such as your phone.
- Put the JBL device back into Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Pair it with the second device, such as a Windows PC, Mac, tablet, or work phone.
- Open the JBL Headphones app and enable Multipoint or Dual Connect if your model offers a toggle.
- Pause audio on one device before starting playback on the other if the headset does not switch automatically.
If muloint behaves unpredictably, disconnect unused Bluetooth devices from the phone or computer and remove old pairings that you no longer use. Video calls can also hold the microphone connection open, which may stop another device from taking over audio. In that case, leave the meeting app, close the browser tab, or manually select the JBL headset as the output device on the source you want to hear.

Troubleshoot JBL Bluetooth Pairing and Sound Problems
If your JBL speaker or headphones will not connect, start with the basics: charge the device, keep it within a few feet of your phone, computer, TV, or console, and make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the source device. Turn the JBL device off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on and place it in pairing mode again. If the Bluetooth light is not flashing, the JBL product may already be connected to another nearby device, such as a tablet, laptop, or previous phone.
Remove old Bluetooth connections and pair again
Many pairing problems happen because the source device is trying to use an old connection profile. On your phone, computer, or TV, open the Bluetooth settings, select the JBL device, then choose Forget, Remove, or Unpair. Restart Bluetooth on the source device, put the JBL speaker or headphones back into pairing mode, and select the JBL name again when it appears. If more than one similar JBL name appears, choose the one that matches the product model printed on the device or shown in the JBL app.
- iPhone or iPad: go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the info icon next to the JBL device, then tap Forget This Device.
- Android: go to Settings > Bluetooth or Connected devices, tap the gear icon next to the JBL device, then tap Forget or Unpair.
- Windows: go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices, select the JBL device, then click Remove device.
- Mac: go to System Settings > Bluetooth, click the info button next to the JBL device, then choose Forget This Device.
Fix no sound, low volume, or audio coming from the wrong place
If the JBL device shows as connected but you hear no audio, check the output device on your phone, computer, TV, or app. On Windows and Mac, select the JBL speaker or headphones as the sound output, not just as a Bluetooth accessory. On phones, open the audio route menu from the media player or control center and choose the JBL device. Also raise the volume on both devices: JBL speakers and headphones often have their own volume level separate from the phone, TV, or laptop.
For headphones, call audio can behave differently from music audio. If music sounds clear but calls do not work, check that the JBL headset is selected as the microphone and speaker in the calling app. In Zoom, Teams, Discord, or game chat settings, manually choose the JBL device for both input and output. If the audio sounds thin or muffled on a computer during a call, the headset may be using a hands-free Bluetooth profile, which prioritizes the microphone over high-quality stereo playback.
Reduce dropouts, delay, and distorted Bluetooth audio
Bluetooth audio can cut out when there is too much distance, interference, or battery drain. Move closer to the source device and avoid placing the phone or laptop behind a TV, inside a cabinet, or under thick blankets. Wi-Fi routers, microwaves, USB 3.0 hubs, and crowded Bluetooth environments can also cause dropouts. If the sound is delayed while watching video or gaming, try reconnecting the JBL device, closing unused Bluetooth devices, or using a wired connection if your JBL model and source device support it.

| Problem | Try this fix |
|---|---|
| JBL device does not appear | Turn pairing mode on again, keep the devices close, and remove old Bluetooth entries. |
| Connects, then disconnects | Charge the JBL device, restart both devices, and disconnect it from other nearby phones or laptops. |
| No sound | Select the JBL device as the audio output and raise volume on both the JBL device and source device. |
| Only one earbud works | Place both earbuds in the case, close the lid, reopen it, then pair again after removing the old Bluetooth listing. |
If pairing still fails, check for firmware updates in the JBL Portable or JBL Headphones app, depending on your product. A reset can also help, but the button combination varies by model, so use the manual for your exact speaker, earbuds, or headphones. After a reset, the JBL device usually needs to be paired again from scratch.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reset my JBL speaker or headphones if they will not pair?
On many JBL speakers, you can reset the device by holding the Volume Up and Play buttons together for several seconds until it powers off or restarts. On many JBL headphones, the reset method varies by model, but it often involves holding the power button or both volume buttons while the headphones are on. After resetting, remove the JBL device from your phone, computer, or TV’s Bluetooth list, then pair it again from scratch.
Why does my JBL device show as connected but no sound comes out?
First, check that the JBL speaker or headphones are selected as the active audio output on your phone, computer, TV, or game console. On Windows and macOS, a device can be connected for calls but not selected for system audio, so open the sound settings and choose the JBL device manually. Also raise the volume on both the JBL device and the source device, since they may have separate volume controls.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Can I connect two JBL speakers together over Bluetooth?
Yes, but only if both speakers support the same JBL linking feature, such as PartyBoost or Connect+. PartyBoost speakers generally cannot link with older Connect+ speakers, even though both use JBL wireless speaker pairing. Use the JBL Portable app when available, or press the PartyBoost or Connect+ button on each speaker after one speaker is already connected to your phone.
Can I connect JBL headphones to two devices at the same time?
Some JBL headphones support muloint Bluetooth, which lets them stay connected to two devices, such as a phone and laptop, at the same time. Pair the headphones with the first device, disconnect or re-enter pairing mode, then pair them with the second device; supported models usually reconnect to both afterward. If audio does not switch automatically, pause playback on one device before starting playback on the other.
Why will my TV or gaming console not find my JBL Bluetooth headphones?
Many TVs support Bluetooth audio, but some only work with remotes, keyboards, or branded audio devices, so check the TV’s sound or Bluetooth audio settings. PlayStation consoles do not natively support most standard Bluetooth headphones for game audio, while some Xbox setups require a compatible adapter or controller connection. If your device cannot pair directly, use a Bluetooth transmitter connected to the TV’s optical, AUX, or USB audio output.
Bottom Line
Connecting JBL speakers or headphones usually comes down to enabling Bluetooth, putting the JBL device in pairing mode, and selecting it from your phone, computer, TV, or other source device. If it does not appear or audio behaves oddly, reset the connection by forgetting the device, restarting Bluetooth, checking battery level, and making sure it is not already connected elsewhere.
