To connect ChatGPT to Buffer, add Buffer’s MCP server to ChatGPT and sign in with OAuth. Buffer documents this route for ChatGPT on the web and for the Codex CLI. For the ChatGPT web connection, Buffer’s developer guide says no API key is needed. Once connected, the assistant can work with your Buffer account: drafting posts, scheduling them, checking the queue, saving ideas and working with your connected channels.
Before you set anything up, be sure you want the right tool. Buffer also has a built-in AI Assistant inside its composer. It uses OpenAI to draft and revise copy, but it is a separate feature and does not require the connection described below.

Confirm which integration you need
The phrase “ChatGPT and Buffer integration” can refer to two different workflows. The table below separates them.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Question | ChatGPT connected to Buffer through MCP | Buffer AI Assistant (built into the composer) |
|---|---|---|
| Where the work happens | Inside ChatGPT on the web, or in the Codex CLI | Inside Buffer’s composer |
| What it manages | Buffer account actions: drafting and scheduling posts, checking the queue, saving ideas, working with connected channels | Copy generation and revision: brainstorming, rephrasing, shortening, expanding and changing tone |
| Connection requirements | Add the Buffer MCP server URL and approve access with OAuth | No setup in the composer |
| Review workflow | Scheduled content lands in the Buffer queue for review and editing before it goes live | Generated copy is inserted into a post, which you review before you schedule or publish it |
If your goal is to have ChatGPT manage your Buffer account, use the MCP route. If you only want help writing or rewriting a post while you are composing it in Buffer, use the built-in assistant. You can use both.

Connect ChatGPT to Buffer
ChatGPT on the web
Buffer’s ChatGPT integration page documents the following steps. ChatGPT’s menu labels can change, so if your screen differs, look for the equivalent option in ChatGPT’s own settings.
- Open ChatGPT and go to Settings, then Apps or Connectors.
- Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode. Buffer’s documentation does not say which ChatGPT plans or workspaces expose this setting, so check ChatGPT’s help if you cannot find it.
- Add a new app and name it Buffer.
- Enter
https://mcp.buffer.com/mcpas the MCP server URL. - Select OAuth as the authentication method, then create the app.
- Sign in to Buffer and approve access if prompted.
When the connection succeeds, ChatGPT can use Buffer’s actions in the conversation. You can confirm the link by asking ChatGPT to check your Buffer queue.
Codex CLI
To add Buffer to the Codex CLI, run the following command in your terminal:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →codex mcp add buffer --url https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp
A browser window opens for Buffer sign-in and access approval. Complete the approval in the browser, then return to the terminal. If no browser window opens, re-run the command from a terminal session that can open a browser on your machine. Buffer’s documentation does not describe a separate manual sign-in method for this route.
What a connected assistant can do
Buffer says an AI assistant connected through MCP can perform these actions:
- Draft posts
- Schedule posts
- Check the queue
- Save ideas
- Work with connected channels
Review before anything goes live
Buffer describes scheduled content as landing in the queue, where you review and edit it before it goes live. The practical rule is to check the copy, the channel and the schedule in Buffer before publication, even when the assistant created the draft. This review step is the main control you have over assistant-generated posts, so do not skip it because the workflow is automated.

How publishing works in Buffer
After you connect your channels, Buffer’s ordinary publishing workflow runs in this order:
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstall- Select the channels you want to post to.
- Compose your content.
- Customize the content for each network.
- Choose a queue slot, a custom time, or immediate publication.
Other ways to automate Buffer
Buffer announced its public API on May 27, 2026. The API supports publishing, scheduling and managing a social presence from other tools, and Buffer says it is available on every plan, including Free. The API is a separate route from the MCP connection described above, and the ChatGPT connection does not depend on it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Channels and plan limits
Buffer’s support guide lists these channels: Facebook Pages, Instagram Business and Creator accounts, X/Twitter profiles, LinkedIn Pages and profiles, Pinterest, TikTok, Google Business Profiles, Start Pages, Mastodon, YouTube Shorts, Threads, Bluesky and Substack.
Publishing, analytics and engagement features vary by channel. Check Buffer’s channel support table before you assume a specific feature works on a given network.
Plan access is easy to misread, so note that MCP access and channel limits are separate:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Plan | MCP access | Connected channels | Lifetime limit per social network |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Included, according to Buffer’s MCP overview | Up to three connected channels at once | Eight unique channels per social network |
| Paid plans | Included, according to Buffer’s MCP overview | Not stated in Buffer’s support guide | No lifetime limit, according to Buffer’s support guide |
In practice, a Free account can connect ChatGPT to Buffer, but it cannot connect more than three channels at the same time. The lifetime limit of eight unique channels per network also applies, so disconnecting and reconnecting accounts draws on that total.
Quick Recap
Troubleshooting checklist
- Developer mode is not visible. Check ChatGPT’s help for plan and workspace requirements. Buffer’s documentation does not list them.
- The Buffer app does not authenticate. Confirm that the MCP server URL is exactly
https://mcp.buffer.com/mcpand that you selected OAuth. - A channel is missing from the assistant’s results. Confirm the channel is connected in Buffer, and check the Free plan’s three-channel limit.
- A feature is unavailable for one network. Feature coverage differs by channel, so consult Buffer’s channel support table.
- Menu labels differ from these steps. ChatGPT and Codex interfaces change. Follow the closest equivalent option, and rely on Buffer’s integration page for the current steps.
