To use Bluehost AI Credits in Langflow, open Settings → Model Providers, select OpenAI or a generic OpenAI-compatible provider, paste your AI Credits API key, enter the gateway endpoint from the Bluehost Portal if a Base URL field appears, save the provider, enable a model, and test it in a three-component flow. Bluehost’s guide, “How to Connect Bluehost AI Credits to Langflow” (updated September 16, 2026), describes this path, and it assumes Langflow is already running on a Bluehost Self-Managed VPS or VDS.
Before you start
Confirm these four things before you touch Langflow’s settings. Most failed setups trace back to one of them.

- Langflow is installed and running. The Bluehost walkthrough starts from an existing install with its initial setup finished and a working admin login. It is not a Langflow installation guide.
- The server is a Bluehost Self-Managed VPS or VDS. Bluehost’s “Understanding AI Credits” overview (updated September 16, 2026) states that AI Credits are available on Self-Managed VPS and VDS plans. If your Langflow runs somewhere else, this route does not apply as written.
- The account has AI Credits. Credits are a prepaid balance. A flow cannot run without a positive balance.
- You have the right key and endpoint. Create or retrieve the AI Credits API key and the gateway endpoint from the AI Tooling area of the Bluehost Portal. Copy the endpoint from the portal itself rather than from an older article.
Keep the two credentials separate in your head. The Bluehost AI Credits key is the model-provider credential: Langflow uses it to call the language model. A Langflow API key, if you use one, authenticates requests to the Langflow server. Pasting one into the other’s field is a common cause of authentication errors.

There are two ways you may reach this step. Use the first if Langflow is already running on your own account. Use the second if you are setting up the server through Bluehost for the first time.
#1 Best Overall
Option 1: Existing Langflow installation
- In Langflow, open the profile menu and choose Settings → Model Providers.
- Select OpenAI. If your Langflow version does not list AI Credits as a named provider, choose the generic or OpenAI-compatible provider option instead. Menu labels shift between releases, so match what your install shows rather than the exact wording here.
- Paste the AI Credits key into the provider’s API Key field.
- If a Base URL field is shown, enter the gateway endpoint from the Bluehost Portal. If the field is absent, the provider you chose may already route correctly, or your version may not expose the field. Check the endpoint in the portal before assuming it is wrong.
- Save the provider, then enable the models you plan to use in flows. A model that is not enabled will not appear in component dropdowns.
- Add a Language Model or Agent component to a flow and select the configured provider and an enabled model.
Option 2: First-time setup on a Bluehost VPS or VDS
Bluehost’s guide walks through this sequence:
- Sign in to the Bluehost Portal and go to Hosting → My Plans.
- Select the server that will run Langflow.
- Connect to the server over SSH. The guide’s sample command is
ssh root@your_server_ip, with your server’s real IP address substituted. - Open the server’s Langflow dashboard and configure the provider using the steps in Option 1.
- Locate saved credentials. The guide points to
/root/.app_secrets. Treat that file as sensitive: restrict who can read it and do not paste its contents into tickets or chat logs.
This path assumes you have the server access and credentials needed to administer it. If you do not, ask whoever manages the server rather than working around the SSH step.
Run a smoke test
A configuration that saves without errors is not proof that it works. Test with the smallest possible flow:

- Create a new flow and add a Chat Input, a Language Model, and a Chat Output component.
- Connect them in sequence: Chat Input → Language Model → Chat Output.
- In the Language Model component, choose the provider you configured and an enabled model.
- Open the Playground, send a short prompt such as
Hello?, and wait for a response.
A model reply is the success condition. If you see no reply, go to the troubleshooting table below and work through the checks in order, starting with balance.

Troubleshooting
Start with the most common cause. Each row below lists a symptom, the likely cause, and the check that confirms it.
Rank #3
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Insufficient credits | The wallet balance is depleted | Check the balance in the Bluehost Portal. Add credits only if the balance and your usage justify it. |
| Invalid API key | The key was mistyped, expired, or revoked | Copy the AI Credits key again from the portal and re-enter it in the provider’s API Key field, then save. |
| Model missing from the dropdown | The model is not enabled, or the key does not have access to it | Return to Settings → Model Providers, confirm the model is enabled, and confirm the key’s permissions in the portal. Langflow’s Quickstart states that the key must have permission to call the models you want to use in your flow. |
| Endpoint or connection error | The Base URL is missing, outdated, or copied from an old article | Compare the Base URL with the gateway endpoint shown in the Bluehost Portal and correct it. |
| Flow runs with no output | Components are disconnected, or no model is selected | Confirm the Chat Input → Language Model → Chat Output connections and that a model is selected in the Language Model component. |
| Ollama connection fails | Only applies if you also run a local Ollama provider: the service is stopped or the base URL and port do not match | Confirm Ollama is running and that the base URL and port in Langflow match the service. This is separate from the AI Credits connection. |
Work top to bottom. Balance and key validity rule out the most common failures quickly, and flow wiring is the last thing to suspect because it is the easiest to verify by eye.

Bluehost describes AI Credits as a prepaid balance routed through an AI Gateway. The gateway exposes a single OpenAI-compatible endpoint and one key for supported models. Each request draws down the balance at a per-model token rate, so the cost of a flow depends on the model you choose and how much text it processes.

These figures are list prices from the overview, and Bluehost says pricing can change. Check the portal before buying. The balance is shared across the account, so every Langflow flow and any other supported use on the account draws from the same wallet.

Which models you can use
Bluehost’s help material lists model groups from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI, along with additional groups including Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Kimi, GLM, and MiniMax. Its product page listed 39 supported models when that page was captured. That count is time-sensitive, so treat the portal’s model list as the authority for what your key can call.
AI Credits or a direct provider key
If you already hold a key from a model provider, the choice comes down to billing and configuration. The sources establish how each option works. They do not establish which one is cheaper or faster for your workload.
| Axis | AI Credits through Bluehost | Direct provider key |
|---|---|---|
| Billing | One shared prepaid Bluehost wallet at the account level | Billed by the provider; not stated for this setup |
| Model availability | Set by the Bluehost Portal and key permissions | Set by the provider’s account and key permissions |
| Endpoint and key setup | Gateway endpoint from the portal plus the AI Credits key | Provider’s own endpoint and key; not covered by Bluehost’s guide |
| Price comparison | Not stated: Bluehost’s figures are list prices, and no comparison with direct pricing is established | Not stated for this setup |
Bluehost’s guide does not present AI Credits as a separate native connector. The documented method is to enter the gateway key and endpoint in Langflow’s standard provider settings, which is the same mechanism you would use for any compatible provider.

Langflow’s Quickstart (documentation version 1.12.x) also states that your account must have sufficient credits for the actions a flow performs. That condition applies to any provider you connect, but it is the reason the balance check comes first in the troubleshooting table.
Bluehost’s guide reflects the Langflow interface at the time it was written. Menu labels, field placement, and provider names may differ in your version, so match the labels on your screen to the steps above.
