A VPN can encrypt your traffic and change the IP address that websites and apps see. It does not switch off MeetMe’s access to your phone’s location, and it does not change what appears in your MeetMe profile. We could not confirm five VPNs that have been checked for MeetMe compatibility, so this guide does not present a five-name ranking. It explains which settings matter and covers two providers whose current mobile documentation we could confirm.
What MeetMe says it does with location
MeetMe describes itself as an app for meeting people nearby, making friends, chatting and livestreaming. Its Google Play listing says the app may collect and share location and that data is encrypted in transit. The App Store privacy disclosure lists location among the data MeetMe uses for tracking and the data it links to your identity. Apple states that these labels are provided by the developer and are not verified by Apple.

These are the developer’s own statements. They do not say when MeetMe reads location, how precise that location is in each feature, or whether a VPN changes any of it. Treat the listings as a clear signal that location is central to the app, not as a technical audit.

Most confusion comes from treating a VPN as a privacy switch for the whole app. In practice, three different controls do three different jobs.

A VPN is a network-level tool. Use it for the network question, and use the phone’s permission settings and MeetMe’s profile settings for the location and visibility questions.

Because no source we checked tests MeetMe performance, selection should rest on features you can verify yourself:

- Kill switch behavior on your operating system. A kill switch blocks internet access when the VPN drops. Its behavior differs between Android and iOS, so read the provider’s description for your platform.
- Always-on support. Some apps keep the VPN active permanently; the implementation differs by platform.
- Documented privacy practices. Read the provider’s own privacy policy and support pages rather than relying on summaries.
- Server choice. Only relevant if you have a legitimate reason to route traffic through a specific country.
- Ease of reconnecting. If you often switch networks, a VPN that reconnects reliably will matter more than a long server list.
We have not ranked providers on advertised prices, speeds, server counts or audit claims, because those figures were not confirmed for this guide.

Proton VPN
Proton’s support documentation says its Android kill switch uses Android’s own settings, and that its advanced kill switch has platform-specific limits, so check the description that applies to your phone. Its always-on feature is permanently active in the iOS app. On Android, you can block connections if the VPN drops through Android’s settings.

NordVPN
NordVPN’s feature page says its kill switch blocks internet access when the VPN connection drops, and it describes different behavior across platforms. The page also notes that the kill switch is disabled by default on some desktop and Android versions, so check that it is switched on rather than assuming protection is active.

Setting up the kill switch and always-on protection
- Open your VPN app and find the kill switch or always-on setting. Labels differ between providers and between apps on Android and iOS.
- Turn it on, then confirm that the setting shows as active after you close and reopen the app.
- On Android, also open the VPN settings in Android’s system settings and look for the option that blocks connections when the VPN is not connected. Menu names vary by Android version and phone maker.
- Open MeetMe with the VPN connected and confirm that it loads and that chat works normally.
- Disconnect the VPN and try to load MeetMe again. If the kill switch is working, the app should stop loading traffic until the VPN is back on.
If MeetMe stops working with the kill switch on, turn the VPN off or reconnect it. Do not leave the kill switch disabled to restore access without first understanding why the connection dropped.
MeetMe’s rules and where to get help
MeetMe’s Content and Conduct Policy prohibits unlawful use, spam, automated or programmatic account activity, harmful code, and attempts to breach platform security. The policy does not address VPNs either way. Do not assume that using a VPN is allowed or banned, and do not assume that a VPN places you outside the policy. The same rules apply on any connection.
