You can connect Apple Health to ChatGPT in the ChatGPT app for iPhone, then choose which health categories to share. ChatGPT can use synced information to add context to relevant answers; data from an Apple Watch or apps such as Oura, Garmin, and WHOOP can flow through Apple Health if those apps write the relevant information there.
Who can use Apple Health with ChatGPT?
OpenAI says Health is available to logged-in users aged 18 or older in the United States on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro. Health is supported on web and iOS, but access is rolling out gradually, so an eligible user may not see it yet. Connecting Apple Health requires an iPhone. How to connect Apple Health to ChatGPT
- On your iPhone, open ChatGPT and select Health from the sidebar. If it is not shown there, look in the More menu.
- Choose Connect Health or Get started, select Apple Health, and follow the permission prompts. OpenAI says users of the latest ChatGPT iOS app may be guided through the connection during initial setup.
- Review the requested data categories and allow only the access you want to share.
- Wait for the initial sync. OpenAI says it may take a few minutes or longer when there is a large health-data history.
- Ask ChatGPT a question related to the information you connected. If you want to explicitly direct it to use Health, start the prompt with @Health.
To change shared categories later, open Health → … → Apple Health in the ChatGPT iOS app.

Can ChatGPT read Apple Watch, Oura, Garmin, or WHOOP data?
ChatGPT accesses third-party wearable and fitness-app information through Apple Health, rather than directly through the wearable in this connection. First, set the app or device to share the data you care about with Apple Health; then authorize the relevant categories in ChatGPT. OpenAI names WHOOP, Oura, and Garmin as examples of services that can connect this way.

The transfer depends on what each app writes to Apple Health. Some proprietary scores or metrics may stay inside the maker’s app, so a connection does not guarantee that every number shown by a wearable will be available to ChatGPT. A wearable is optional: you can connect Apple Health without buying an Apple Watch.
What can ChatGPT do with connected health information?
OpenAI describes Health as a way to put information such as sleep and activity trends into context, compare results over time, summarize changes, prepare questions for a medical appointment, or consider context such as allergies. The usefulness of an answer depends on the information available and the question asked.

OpenAI says connected Apple Health and medical-record information, and conversations that use it, are not used to train its foundation models or target ads. It also says connected information receives additional encryption protections. These are OpenAI’s stated policies and controls, not an independent security audit. Review the Health in ChatGPT privacy details before connecting.

Health conversations may create memories when Memory is on, but OpenAI says memories are not created directly from synced health data. For different handling of conversation memory, OpenAI suggests using Temporary Chat, turning Memory off, or creating a separate Health project with project-specific memory.
To stop the connection, disconnect Apple Health from the Health menu. OpenAI says synced source data is deleted from its systems within 30 days after disconnection. Information already included in conversation history is handled separately and remains until you delete those conversations.

Manage Apple Health permissions separately
ChatGPT’s connection is only one layer of access. Apple’s Health app lets you review which apps and devices have requested permission and change whether each can read or write data.
