You can connect an Echo to a TV or stereo with an AUX cable only if the Echo has an audio output and the other device has a matching audio input. Check the exact Echo model and both port labels first: Echo models do not all have the same connections, and an output is not an input. Check that your Echo can send audio out
Find the Echo’s model and generation, then check its official specifications and inspect its ports. You need an audio output, usually labeled “AUX out,” “audio out,” or shown with an output symbol. A headphone-style 3.5 mm jack may be an output, but do not assume that every Echo has one—or that a port is an output just because it accepts a cable.

Check the TV or stereo’s audio input
The receiving device must have an input that accepts audio from an external source. Look for a port labeled “AUX in,” “audio in,” or “line in,” and confirm its type in the TV or stereo manual. A port labeled “audio out,” or a headphone jack intended to send sound elsewhere, will not serve as the input for this connection.

Commonly, a 3.5 mm input takes a matching 3.5 mm plug. Some stereos instead have left and right RCA inputs, usually marked red and white. Match the cable to the actual input; do not rely on the shape or color of a port alone if its direction is unclear.
Choose a cable that matches both ports
- 3.5 mm Echo output to 3.5 mm input: use a 3.5 mm stereo AUX cable.
- 3.5 mm Echo output to stereo RCA inputs: use a 3.5 mm-to-RCA audio cable, with the RCA plugs connected to the stereo’s audio inputs.

Connect the Echo to the TV or stereo
- Turn the receiving device’s volume down, then connect one end of the cable to the Echo’s confirmed audio output.
- Connect the other end to the TV or stereo’s compatible audio input.
- Select that input on the TV or stereo. The name and control vary by device; look for an input or source selection such as AUX or Line In.
- Play audio from the Echo and raise the receiving device’s volume gradually. If there is no sound, check the selected input and both cable connections.
This is an output-to-input connection: sound played by the Echo is sent to the TV or stereo. It does not make the Echo receive TV audio over AUX. Amazon’s cited port specification establishes an output for the Echo Dot (3rd Generation), not a TV-audio input for Echo devices generally.

Try Bluetooth when both devices support the needed audio roles
Amazon documents pairing an Echo with a Bluetooth speaker through the Alexa app: put the Bluetooth device into pairing mode, then open the Alexa app and go to Devices, select the Echo, open its settings, choose Bluetooth Devices, and tap Pair A New Device. Check Alexa Home Theater for a supported Fire TV setup
For TV audio through Echo speakers, Alexa Home Theater may be an option when the Fire TV and Echo models are on Amazon’s compatibility list. Some configurations use HDMI ARC and require a TV that supports ARC. Compatibility is model-specific, so consult Amazon’s current Alexa Home Theater device compatibility guide and HDMI ARC setup instructions before relying on this route.
