According to Anthropic’s documentation, it can search Gmail, consult Google Calendar, and read the text of Google Docs you add through Drive. The documented Gmail and Calendar integrations cannot send email, edit messages, or create or change calendar events. The Drive integration is also narrower than “all of Drive”: it covers Google Docs only.

What Claude can access
Gmail
Claude can search the email of the Google account you connected. Anthropic states that Claude “only accesses your Gmail and Calendar data when you explicitly ask a question that requires this information.” It says Claude retrieves the minimum information needed and respects your existing Gmail permissions. Images embedded in emails are not visible to it.

Google Calendar
Claude can use the connected calendar to answer questions that depend on your schedule, such as when you are free or what is coming up. It reads; it does not edit.

Google Docs through Drive
You can add a Doc to a chat by choosing a recent document or pasting its URL. You can also add Docs to private project knowledge. Anthropic says only Google Docs are supported, so Sheets and Slides are outside the documented integration. Claude can only use Docs you are allowed to view.
Research
Anthropic describes Research with Google Workspace as combining connected Gmail, Calendar and Docs with web sources. A separate Research help page describes the beta as available to paid users in the United States, Japan and Brazil. That detail is specific to that page and may have changed, so check your own account.
What Claude can do with that access
The built-in integrations are for finding, combining and summarizing information. A good prompt names the source and the task, for example: “Search Gmail for the latest vendor quote and compare its date with our next calendar review.” Anthropic’s connectors guide recommends naming the source and splitting multi-step work into smaller requests. Check the answer against the source references it gives.
For Docs, adding a file makes its text available in the conversation or project. Docs added to chats and project knowledge sync from Drive, so Claude works from the latest version.
What it will not do
Anthropic’s Gmail and Calendar guide says: “These integrations currently do not support creating or modifying emails and calendar events.” So “send this email” or “move my meeting” will not work through these built-in integrations. Claude’s wider connector documentation discusses actions in other connected tools, but that does not change the Gmail and Calendar limits above.
Limits of the Drive integration
- Google Docs only, up to 10 MB each.
- Text extraction only: images in Docs are not interpreted.
- Comments and suggestions are not visible.
- Project knowledge from Drive is limited to private projects.
- If you lose access to a Doc, its preview is removed, though chat history remains.
Permissions, privacy and data handling
Claude reflects the permissions already granted to the connected Google account; it does not widen them. Anthropic says retrieved Gmail and Calendar data is stored on its servers with the associated chat, can be removed by deleting that chat, and is not used to train its models. That is Anthropic’s own description, so review the current privacy policy and your account controls if the content is sensitive.

Availability and admin setup
Anthropic labels these Claude.ai integrations as beta in the Drive and Gmail/Calendar help articles, and beta status can change. Drive integration is described as available to paid Claude users. On Claude for Work, an Owner or Primary Owner must enable the Gmail and Calendar integrations at the account level before members can authenticate. If a connector is missing, ask your workspace administrator first, then check Anthropic’s current integrations page.
