How to Connect a Wireless Keyboard to a Samsung TV

Samsung TVs may support wireless keyboards over USB or Bluetooth, but compatibility depends on the exact model. Learn how to connect one and fix common problems.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Connect a wireless keyboard to a Samsung TV by plugging in its USB receiver or pairing it over Bluetooth—but only if your exact TV model supports keyboard input over that connection. Bluetooth audio support alone does not confirm support for Bluetooth keyboards. Check the model-specific manual or specifications before buying or troubleshooting.

Choose a connection method

Samsung TVs may support wireless keyboards through either a USB receiver or Bluetooth. The methods are separate: a TV that does not support one may still support the other, but only if its specifications say so. Before you start, check that the keyboard is powered and that you know which connection method it uses.

Method What to do What to verify
USB receiver Plug the keyboard’s receiver into an available USB port on the TV, or its One Connect box if applicable. Wait briefly, then try typing or navigating. The TV must support USB keyboard input. Samsung Australia says most of its TVs manufactured before 2018 automatically recognize USB keyboards and mice, but this regional general guidance is not a guarantee for every model. Samsung Australia’s keyboard and mouse guidance
Bluetooth Put the keyboard in pairing mode, open the TV’s Bluetooth or input-device settings, then select the keyboard and choose Pair and connect if prompted. The TV must support Bluetooth HID keyboard input, not merely Bluetooth audio. Samsung UK’s Bluetooth-device guidance

Connect a USB-receiver keyboard

  1. Turn on the keyboard and insert its USB receiver into an available USB port on the TV or applicable One Connect box.
  2. Wait a few seconds, then test typing or navigation.
  3. If it does not respond, check the keyboard’s power or batteries and reseat the receiver. Confirm in the manual or specifications for your exact TV model that USB keyboard input is supported.

Pair a Bluetooth keyboard

  1. Put the keyboard into Bluetooth pairing mode using the keyboard maker’s instructions.
  2. On the TV, open the Bluetooth or input-device list. The menu path varies by model year and market; examples from Samsung Australia are listed below.
  3. Select the keyboard when it appears. Choose Pair and connect if the TV prompts you.
  4. If it does not appear, move the keyboard closer to the TV and refresh or rescan the list if that option is available.

Example menu paths from Samsung Australia

These are examples for Australian sets, not universal instructions. Menu names can vary by model and region; use your TV’s manual if a route does not match.

Samsung India documents additional routes for particular Indian models, including a 2018 NU Bluetooth Device List path and a 2014 H/HU/F path through System > Device Manager > Keyboard Settings > Add Bluetooth Keyboard. Treat those as India-specific examples rather than instructions for every TV. See Samsung India’s keyboard connection guidance.

Check compatibility before buying

  1. Find the TV’s full model number and market or region. Use the matching Samsung support page or manual, since menus and supported devices can differ.
  2. Look specifically for keyboard input support over the connection you plan to use: USB receiver or Bluetooth.
  3. For Bluetooth, verify HID support. Samsung UK warns that some TVs can connect Bluetooth audio devices but not Bluetooth HID devices such as keyboards, mice, and gamepads. Having Bluetooth does not by itself establish keyboard compatibility.
  4. Account for possible brand-to-brand compatibility differences. Samsung Türkiye advises checking device support and notes that compatibility with keyboards from other brands can vary; this is not a universal compatibility ranking. See Samsung Türkiye’s keyboard and mouse guidance.

Troubleshoot common connection problems

The keyboard does not appear in Bluetooth settings

  • Make sure the keyboard is powered on and in pairing mode.
  • Move it closer to the TV and refresh or rescan the device list if possible.
  • If the TV still does not find it, check the model-specific manual for Bluetooth keyboard support.

Bluetooth pairing succeeds, but typing does not work

Check that the TV supports Bluetooth HID keyboard input rather than only Bluetooth audio devices. The exact model’s manual or specifications are the authority for this distinction.

The USB receiver is not detected

Check the keyboard’s power or batteries, remove and reinsert the receiver, and verify that the TV supports USB keyboard input. Samsung Australia’s statement about automatic recognition applies to most of its pre-2018 TVs as general regional guidance, not every individual set.

The keyboard works in one app but not another

Keyboard and mouse support can be limited by the TV and app. Samsung India says that, under the guidance on its page, keyboard and mouse use is limited to the browser and pointer-supported apps; it also says connected mice work only in the Internet app. Check the manual for your model and the app you want to use.

The menu path is missing

Settings names and routes vary by model year and region. Use the support page or manual for the TV’s exact model instead of assuming that a path documented for another market will match.

What to expect after setup

A successful connection does not necessarily mean the keyboard will work everywhere on the TV. Input support can depend on the app, and the available guidance does not establish universal compatibility across Samsung models or a single keyboard that works with every set. Check both the TV’s input support and the app’s behavior for the tasks you need.
