The Breville Oracle Jet (BES985) is a premium home espresso machine built to remove several repetitive steps: it grinds, doses and tamps coffee, offers guidance when a shot seems under- or over-extracted, and can texture milk automatically. Its appeal is speed and convenience without giving up every espresso choice. The trade-off is a high purchase price, a substantial counter footprint and less hands-on involvement in the parts of the workflow it automates.
What is the Breville Oracle Jet?
The Oracle Jet combines an espresso machine and an integrated Baratza precision burr grinder, using a professional-style 58 mm portafilter. Breville’s product page lists a high-carbon hardened-steel grinder with 45 settings and a 22 g dose. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Breville’s US Oracle Jet product page identifies the model as BES985.

It is not a fully hands-off bean-to-cup machine: the portafilter remains central to the workflow, and the user still chooses drinks and settings. Rather, the Jet automates grinding, dosing and tamping around a familiar portafilter format.
What does it automate—and what remains your choice?
Grinding, dosing and tamping
The machine handles the routine preparation of the puck by grinding into the portafilter, dosing and tamping. That makes the process more repeatable and reduces the manual work between choosing beans and pulling a shot. The grinder’s 45 settings give users room to adjust grind size, while the listed dose is 22 g. Automation does not remove the need to select beans or decide whether the resulting espresso suits your taste.
#1 Best Overall
- PERSONALIZE WITH MY LATTE: Allows you to personalize and save your own recipes
- EASY TO CLEAN: Removable and dishwasher-safe parts for easy cleaning
Barista Guidance
Breville describes Barista Guidance as feedback when a shot appears over- or under-extracted. Treat that as help interpreting the result, not a guarantee that every shot will match a café’s or an individual’s preferred recipe. Your beans, taste and desired drink still shape the adjustments you make.
Automatic milk texturing
Auto MilQ can texture milk hands-free, with manufacturer-listed settings for dairy, soy, almond and oat milk. Breville specifies adjustable temperatures from 104°F to 167°F and eight texture levels. These options are useful if you regularly make milk drinks or switch between milk types; they also mean the machine is making texture decisions you might prefer to control yourself.

The touchscreen offers café-style presets, including Cold Brew and Cold Espresso. Breville says its cold extraction takes under three minutes for Cold Brew and just over one minute for Cold Espresso. These timings are manufacturer claims from the product page, not independently timed results. The presets expand the menu beyond conventional hot espresso, although the machine’s main appeal remains its integrated espresso workflow.

What does independent use say about the experience?
In a review published August 6, 2025, TechRadar’s reviewer said they used the Oracle Jet at home for just over a month, making two drinks a day and trying dairy and plant-milk presets. The reviewer described the espresso as fast to make and flavorful with minimal effort, while identifying the premium price as a drawback. That is one reviewer’s reported experience, not a laboratory result or a test conducted for this article. Read TechRadar’s Oracle Jet review.
How much does it cost, and how much space does it need?
When Breville’s US product page was surfaced on October 7, 2026, it displayed a $1,999.95 list price and a $1,399.95 offer. The offer may be promotional, and prices, stock, finishes and bundles can change; check the current US listing before buying. This is a substantial investment for a home espresso machine, so the value depends on whether its automation will meaningfully improve your everyday routine.

Who should buy the Oracle Jet?
It makes sense if you want a guided, lower-effort routine
- You want espresso from a portafilter machine but would rather not grind, dose and tamp each shot manually.
- You value built-in feedback and the option of automatic milk texturing.
- You make milk drinks and want settings for dairy and several plant-milk types.
- You will use its espresso and cold-drink presets often enough to justify a premium machine.
Look elsewhere if manual technique or price matters more
- You want to practice each step of espresso preparation and control grinding, dosing and tamping yourself.
- You do not expect the automation to save enough effort to justify a high purchase price.
- Your counter cannot accommodate a machine measuring 16.6 × 14.2 × 14.9 inches plus practical working clearance.
For a comparison with another machine, focus on purchase price, automation, manual workflow, grinder adjustment and dosing, milk controls and supported milk types, cold-drink options, footprint, and whether brewing and steaming can happen simultaneously. The available evidence here does not establish a controlled side-by-side comparison or the Jet’s simultaneous brew-and-steam capability, so check the competing models’ own specifications and full reviews before deciding.
Verdict: is the Breville Oracle Jet worth it?
The Oracle Jet is most compelling for someone who wants the portafilter-based espresso experience with much of the repetitive preparation taken care of. Its grind-dose-tamp automation, shot guidance and hands-free milk texturing address real sources of effort, while its 58 mm format and adjustment options leave meaningful choices to the user. Whether that convenience is worth the premium price comes down to how often you will use it and how much you enjoy doing those steps yourself.
