First, identify the console’s video output and compare it with the inputs on your TV. If they match, connect the console directly. If your TV has HDMI but no compatible analog input, use a video processor that accepts the console’s signal and converts it to a digital output the TV supports. The console, cable, processor input and TV connection must all be compatible.
1. Identify the console’s video output and the TV’s inputs
Check the console’s AV port, the cable you have, and the labels beside the TV’s input jacks. The console output determines which cable you need; the cable’s other end must match either the TV or a video processor’s input. Don’t assume every console revision uses the same cable or signal.

Common formats include composite, S-Video, component, RGB/SCART and VGA. The right one depends on your exact console and cable. If you are unsure, check the console’s model or revision and the cable specifications before buying anything.
2. Choose a connection path
Connect directly when the inputs match
If the TV has a supported input that matches the console cable, connect the cable to that input and select the corresponding source on the TV. This is a conditional option: modern TVs differ, so check your set’s manual or input panel rather than assuming it has an analog connection.

Use an analog-to-HDMI processor when the TV lacks the matching input
For a TV with HDMI but no compatible analog input, connect the console to a processor that accepts its video format, then connect the processor’s digital output to the TV. The console cable must match the processor’s input; an HDMI socket alone does not make a device compatible with every console signal.
For example, RetroTINK describes the 2X MINI as accepting composite or S-Video from a console and connecting to a modern display over HDMI. RetroTINK advises checking that the cartridge, console and AV cable work before purchasing it.

For a wider range of analog formats, RetroTINK lists composite, S-Video, component, RGB and SCART inputs for the 5X Pro, with digital video output to an HDTV. Those listed inputs do not establish that every cable or console revision will work; verify the exact combination.

These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent comparative tests. In particular, a processor’s latency claim is not an independent end-to-end measurement of a console, processor and specific TV together.

- Confirm the exact console model or revision and its video output.
- Confirm the cable carries that signal and fits the console.
- Check that the processor accepts the cable’s signal format and has an output your TV can use.
- Verify that the console and source media work. RetroTINK specifically recommends checking the cartridge, console and AV cable before buying the 2X MINI.
A product’s broad label—such as “upscaler” or “HDMI converter”—is not proof that it accepts a particular console’s signal. Manufacturer pages provide product specifications, but they do not amount to a complete console-by-console compatibility chart.
