Connect your PS5 to a Wi‑Fi network
- On the PS5, go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select your Wi‑Fi network from the list and choose Connect.
- If the network is password-protected, enter its Wi‑Fi password when prompted. Sony lists WPA, WPA2, WEP, and WPA3 among the security types covered by its setup instructions. Use the password and security details provided for your own network. Sony’s PS5 internet connection instructions
What if your Wi‑Fi network does not appear?
From Set Up Internet Connection, scroll down and select Set Up Manually, then adjust the settings as prompted. If you are unsure of the network name or credentials, check with the network administrator rather than guessing at router-specific settings.

Use WPS if your access point supports it
Select Set Up Using WPS Button and follow the PS5’s on-screen instructions. This option only applies to access points that support WPS.

Check the Wi‑Fi password
A padlock icon indicates a protected network, and the console will ask for its password. If you do not know it or the password is not accepted, contact the router manufacturer, your internet service provider, or the network administrator.

Check whether the network is IPv6-only
The PS5 supports IPv6, but not an IPv6-only network. If your router is configured for IPv6 only, Sony advises changing the configuration to use IPv4. Ask the router manufacturer for instructions specific to your equipment. Sony’s network setup guidance
Can you use an Ethernet cable instead?
Yes. A LAN cable is an optional wired alternative, not a requirement for Wi‑Fi. To set it up, connect the cable between the PS5 and your router, then go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Set Up Wired LAN > Connect. Sony’s wired LAN setup instructions

Is this the same as Wi‑Fi Direct or Remote Play?
No. The steps above connect the PS5 to a Wi‑Fi network or access point so it can access the internet. Sony’s ordinary PS5 setup instructions do not use Wi‑Fi Direct as a connection mode.

PS Remote Play is a separate feature that streams a game from the console to a supported device over broadband. Sony specifies at least 5 Mbps and recommends 15 Mbps or higher for a better Remote Play experience; those figures are for Remote Play, not stated minimums for connecting a PS5 to Wi‑Fi.
