Check whether your exact CD player model can transmit Bluetooth audio. If it cannot, connect a Bluetooth audio transmitter to the player’s headphone jack, then pair your headphones with the transmitter. In that common setup, the CD player stays wired to the transmitter; only the headphone connection is wireless.
Can a portable CD player connect directly to Bluetooth headphones?
Only if that specific player supports Bluetooth audio transmission. A headphone jack by itself does not provide Bluetooth, and Bluetooth headphones cannot receive audio directly from an ordinary analog headphone output. Check the manual for the exact player model and look for Bluetooth audio output or transmission—not just Bluetooth support for another function.

What you need if the player has no Bluetooth transmitter
Use a Bluetooth audio transmitter with an analog input compatible with the player’s output. For a player with a 3.5 mm headphone jack, that usually means a transmitter that accepts 3.5 mm analog audio, plus a suitable cable if the transmitter does not have a built-in plug. The player connects to the transmitter by wire; the headphones pair wirelessly to the transmitter.

Check the transmitter’s manual for its input type and any required AUX or analog mode before buying. A product described simply as a “Bluetooth adapter” may not have the input you need. See the connection examples in the Avantree Relay guide and Audiplex setup instructions.
Connect the CD player and headphones
- Check the player: Find the exact model number and consult its manual. If it supports Bluetooth audio transmission, use its Bluetooth settings to pair with the headphones. If not, identify its audio output jack.
- Connect the transmitter: With a 3.5 mm output, connect the player’s headphone jack to the transmitter’s compatible analog input using the correct plug or cable. Turn on the transmitter and select AUX or analog input if the model requires it.
- Pair the headphones: Put the headphones and transmitter into pairing mode, keeping them close together. Wait for the connection indicator or other confirmation described in their manuals. In this arrangement, pair the headphones to the transmitter, not to the CD player.
- Test playback: Insert a CD and start a track. Begin at low volume, then raise it gradually to a comfortable level.

If there is no sound or the headphones will not pair
- Check the wired connection: Make sure the cable or plug is fully seated at both ends and that the transmitter input matches the player’s output.
- Check the input and power: Confirm the transmitter is on, has power, and is set to AUX or analog mode if required.
- Check volume: Make sure the CD player and headphones are audible; raise the player’s volume gradually rather than starting at maximum.
- Stop another device from taking the headphone connection: If the headphones usually connect to a phone or computer, temporarily switch Bluetooth off on nearby devices. Then return both headphones and transmitter to pairing mode and retry while they are close together. A nearby device may connect to the headphones first.
What to compare when choosing a transmitter
Confirm compatibility first, then compare only features that matter for your setup. Manuals are the right place to verify model-specific specifications; there is no universal transmitter performance ranking established by the setup guidance cited here.
