To connect a phone to a Yamaha keyboard, first check the keyboard’s exact model and ports, your phone’s connector, and what you want the connection to do. Depending on the instrument, you may use a USB data cable, Bluetooth MIDI, or Wi-Fi. For Yamaha’s Smart Pianist app, compatibility and available features vary by model, phone, and connection method.
Choose the connection that fits your keyboard and phone
There is no single cable or wireless method that works with every Yamaha keyboard. Find the model name on the instrument, check its manual for available terminals and wireless features, and identify the connector on your phone. Then confirm that the app you plan to use supports both devices. Yamaha’s Smart Pianist compatibility page lists supported instruments and notes model-specific differences; it does not establish compatibility with every Yamaha keyboard.

The main options are wired USB, Bluetooth MIDI, and Wi-Fi. These routes connect a phone to control or communicate with a compatible instrument; they are not interchangeable with recording the keyboard’s audio into a phone.
| Connection | What to verify | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|
| USB | A compatible USB TO HOST port, data-capable cable, and the correct phone-side connector or adapter | The needed cable configuration depends on the instrument and phone. |
| Bluetooth MIDI | Built-in Bluetooth MIDI or support for a compatible wireless MIDI adapter | Smart Pianist audio recording is unavailable over Bluetooth. |
| Wi-Fi | Support for the instrument and any required wireless LAN adapter; check local availability | Some documented Smart Pianist Wi-Fi functions need a router or access point. |
Connect over USB
Look for a port labeled USB TO HOST and confirm its connector type in the keyboard’s manual. Yamaha’s setup instructions document a USB Type-A-to-Type-B cable for instruments with a Type B USB TO HOST port, with the appropriate phone-side connection. For a Lightning device, Yamaha lists an Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter; newer USB-C phones and instruments may use a matching USB-C cable configuration. Check Yamaha’s connection setup instructions and the manual for your specific keyboard before buying accessories.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
For the USB connection described in Yamaha’s Android connection manual, the cable must support communication rather than charging only, and it must be shorter than 3 meters. That manual instructs users to turn the instrument off before connecting, then turn it back on after the cable is attached. Follow your keyboard’s own instructions if they differ.
Connect with Bluetooth MIDI or Wi-Fi
Bluetooth MIDI
Some Yamaha instruments include Bluetooth MIDI; Yamaha also documents the UD-BT01 wireless MIDI adapter for supported keyboards. Check the instrument manual for compatibility and pairing steps. Bluetooth MIDI connects for MIDI communication and control, but Yamaha says Smart Pianist audio recording is not available through this connection. If you need that Smart Pianist feature, select another supported connection method.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Wi-Fi
Yamaha documents wireless LAN connections, including the UD-WL01 adapter for supported instruments. Its Smart Pianist setup guidance says a router or access point may be needed for the documented Wi-Fi route; certain internet-dependent functions are unavailable when connecting without a router. Wireless support and availability can vary by keyboard and region, so verify both before purchasing an adapter.
Set up Smart Pianist
Yamaha describes Smart Pianist as requiring a compatible instrument and smart device. Confirm both against Yamaha’s compatibility information and the current App Store or Google Play listing for supported devices and operating systems. Features and connection options differ between models.

If the phone and keyboard do not connect
- Check the model and port: Confirm the exact keyboard supports the connection you chose; do not assume an adapter or cable listed for another model will fit.
- Check USB data support: A charging-only cable will not work for the communication connection described in Yamaha’s Android manual.
- Confirm app compatibility: Smart Pianist and other apps support particular instruments and devices, not every Yamaha keyboard or phone.
- Follow the instrument’s power sequence: For the Android manual’s USB setup, connect with the keyboard off and turn it on afterward.
- Reduce communication noise if needed: Yamaha’s Android manual recommends Airplane Mode. If the connection uses Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, turn that radio back on after enabling Airplane Mode.
- Recheck wireless requirements: Confirm that Bluetooth MIDI or wireless LAN is supported, and whether the Wi-Fi setup needs a router or access point.
