Put in one AA battery, plug the receiver into a USB port, and switch the mouse on. Logitech Support says the mouse and receiver then connect automatically, with no pairing step in macOS.
Step-by-step setup
- Remove the receiver from the mouse. Slide off the top cover (the keyplate). The small LIGHTSPEED receiver is stored in the battery compartment.
- Install the battery. Put one AA battery in the battery cage and replace the cover. The mouse ships with one alkaline AA.
- Plug in the receiver. Insert it into a USB port on the Mac. You can also use the included extension cable, which lets you place the receiver where it has a better line to the mouse.
- Turn the mouse on. Use the power switch on the underside. The mouse and receiver connect on their own, and the pointer should move within a moment.
You do not need to open System Settings or use Bluetooth. The mouse appears to the Mac as a USB-connected device.

Why Bluetooth won’t work
Logitech’s G305 specification lists Logitech G 2.4 GHz wireless with a USB nano receiver. The model-specific connection guide covers only receiver setup. Nothing in Logitech’s G305 documentation establishes Bluetooth support, so don’t look for the mouse in macOS Bluetooth settings.
The G305 also can’t use a Logitech Unifying receiver. Logitech says the two are incompatible. The receiver that came with the mouse is the one to use. If you lost it, check exact-model compatibility before buying a replacement.

Mac compatibility
Logitech’s specifications list “macOS 10.11 and later” under OS support, labeled as supported at release, and a “USB 2.0+ Port” as the system requirement. That is a manufacturer statement from the product’s launch period. It doesn’t confirm that every current macOS version works, so if you have a very recent macOS release and run into trouble, treat the cause as unconfirmed rather than assuming it will work.
If your Mac has only USB-C ports
The receiver is a standard USB-A device. Many recent Macs have only USB-C ports, so you may need a USB-C to USB-A adapter or a hub. Logitech’s sources don’t name a specific adapter or hub, so check which ports your Mac has and choose any adapter that provides a USB-A port. A hub also helps if you want the receiver away from other devices.

Direct receiver or extension cable?

Troubleshooting
The pointer doesn’t move
- Check that the AA battery is installed correctly and the underside switch is on.
- Confirm the receiver is out of the mouse’s battery compartment and plugged into the computer, directly or through the extension cable.
- If you’re using an adapter or hub, try plugging the receiver into a different port.
The pointer lags or drops out
- Move the receiver closer. In noisy wireless environments, Logitech recommends keeping it within 20 cm of the mouse.
- Keep the setup at least 2 m from wireless routers and other 2.4 GHz devices where practical.
- Use the extension cable to reposition the receiver without moving your Mac.
Battery life
Logitech’s specification gives up to 250 hours in performance mode and up to 9 months in endurance mode. It cautions that real life varies with the user, the battery and computing conditions. None of this affects the connection itself.
