It does not pair over Bluetooth. On Windows, start with XInput for most newer games; on a Steam Deck, connect the receiver through USB-A or a suitable USB-C adapter, hub, or dock. Mac support is less certain and depends on macOS and the game.
What you need to connect an F710
- The F710’s supplied USB nano receiver. The controller communicates through this receiver, not Bluetooth.
- Two AA batteries, installed with the contacts aligned correctly.
- An available USB port. If the host only has USB-C, use a compatible USB-C-to-USB-A adapter or a hub/dock with a USB-A port.
Logitech lists the receiver as USB 1.1 full-speed and specifies a wireless range of 10 m / 30 feet. These are product specifications, not a guarantee of range in every setup. See Logitech’s F710 setup guide and specifications.

Connect the F710 to a Windows PC
- Plug the receiver into a USB port on the PC. If you are using a hub, Logitech advises that it have its own power supply.
- Insert two AA batteries and turn on the controller.
- Set the controller’s X/D switch to X for most newer Windows games. Logitech Support says, “Use XInput to play games in Windows whenever possible.”
- Open the game and check its controller settings. If the game does not detect the F710 or its controls behave unexpectedly, exit the game, switch to D for DirectInput, then relaunch the game and check again.
The F710 supports both XInput and DirectInput. Logitech describes XInput as the mode intended to work natively with modern Windows games; DirectInput can suit older games or some customization setups. Logitech Gaming Software is a Windows configuration option, but it does not provide configuration software for non-Windows systems. Logitech’s published operating-system list is labeled as the product’s compatibility at release and names Windows XP through Windows 7; it should not be read as a current support statement for those obsolete releases or as a current compatibility matrix. Details are in Logitech’s F710 technical specifications and Logitech’s F710 software downloads page.
Connect the F710 to a Steam Deck
- Plug the F710’s USB receiver into an available USB port. If your setup has no USB-A port, connect it using a compatible USB-C-to-USB-A adapter or a hub/dock with USB-A.
- Install two AA batteries and turn on the controller.
- Open the game and check its controller settings. Confirm that the game responds as expected rather than assuming that system-level USB recognition guarantees correct in-game controls.
Valve describes the Steam Deck as a general-purpose PC that supports many USB peripherals and major input APIs, including XInput, DirectInput, Raw Input, and Steam Input. That is general platform guidance, not a model-specific certification of the F710 or a promise that every game will recognize it correctly. Most USB-C-compliant hubs and docks work with the Deck; if a hub or dock must also power the Deck, it needs USB-C Power Delivery passthrough. See Valve’s Steam Deck FAQ.
#1 Best Overall
- The 2.4 GHz wireless connection uses a tiny Plug-and-Forget Nano-receiver that stays in your USB port, even on laptops, for fast data transmission with minimal delays, dropouts, or interference.
- With broad game support, the Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* Requires software installation
- Dual vibration motors let you feel every hit, crash and explosion in games that support vibration feedback for a more realistic and immersive experience
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on game console controllers
Does the Logitech F710 work on Mac?
It may work, but universal support for current macOS versions or every Mac game is not established by the manufacturer materials. The physical connection remains the same: plug in the USB receiver, install two AA batteries, and turn on the controller. Whether macOS and a particular game recognize it depends on their input support.
Logitech says DirectInput can communicate with drivers on many non-Windows systems, but it does not supply configuration software for non-Windows systems. Apple’s controller documentation describes controller support generally and does not certify the F710 specifically. Check the game’s own controller settings; do not rely on Logitech’s Windows utility as a Mac fix. Sources: Logitech’s F710 software downloads page and Apple’s Game Controller documentation.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
Choose between X and D modes
| Switch position | Input mode | When to try it |
|---|---|---|
| X | XInput | Logitech recommends this for Windows gameplay whenever possible, especially with newer games. |
| D | DirectInput | Try this for older games, games that expect DirectInput, or some Windows customization setups. |
Close the game before changing the switch, then reopen it. Logitech warns that changing modes while a game is running can leave some games unable to recognize the controller until they are restarted. For other hosts, recognition and mapping vary by operating system and game; there is no universal mode setting that guarantees compatibility.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Troubleshoot a controller that is not responding
- No response from the controller: Check that the receiver is firmly connected, try another USB port, confirm the battery contacts, and try fresh batteries.
- Wireless interruptions: Try another USB port or use the included USB extension cable to reposition the receiver. If it is connected through a hub, Logitech advises using a hub with its own power supply.
- A Windows game ignores the controller: Check whether the game expects XInput or DirectInput. Exit the game before changing the X/D switch, then reopen it.
- The Deck sees a USB device but a game behaves incorrectly: Treat USB or system-level input recognition separately from the game’s own controller support and mapping. Check that game’s controller settings.
- A Mac game does not respond: Check the game’s native controller settings and the macOS version’s input support. Logitech does not provide its F710 configuration software for non-Windows systems.
Logitech’s setup material also suggests trying another USB port and, where available, the included extension cable. The F710 support page notes that Logitech’s Connection Utility is no longer supported or maintained, so it is not a current troubleshooting recommendation.
