Connect the Logitech F710 with its USB nano receiver, install two AA batteries, turn the controller on, and set its physical switch to the input mode the game supports. Logitech recommends XInput (marked “X”) for general use; choose DirectInput (marked “D”) when a game requires it.
Connect the F710 to your computer
- Turn on the computer.
- Plug the F710’s USB nano receiver into a USB port. The controller connects through this receiver, not Bluetooth. Logitech specifies a full-speed USB 1.1 receiver. Its specifications describe the receiver and released-at-the-time operating-system support; they do not establish compatibility with every current computer, console, or game. The F710 is not compatible with Xbox 360 consoles. Logitech’s technical specifications provide the hardware details.
- Insert two AA alkaline batteries, observing the polarity marks in the battery compartment.
- Turn on the controller and set the XInput/DirectInput switch to the mode supported by your game. Logitech recommends XInput as the general starting point.
- Open the game’s controller settings, if available, and check whether it detects input. If it does not respond, try the other mode and test again.
Logitech lists a wireless range of 10 m (30 ft) as a manufacturer specification; it is not an independently measured guarantee. F710 technical specifications.

Choose XInput or DirectInput
The switch changes the input interface the gamepad presents to a game. Choose based on the game’s requirements rather than assuming one mode works for every title. Logitech’s F710 getting-started guide recommends XInput for general use and DirectInput for games that require that interface.

| Mode | When to try it | Control behavior noted by Logitech |
|---|---|---|
| XInput (X) | Start here for general use, particularly when a game supports XInput. | In a DirectInput game, the left and right triggers may act as one button rather than independently, and vibration feedback is unavailable. |
| DirectInput (D) | Use when the game requires DirectInput or does not work as expected in XInput; Logitech recommends it for best support in DirectInput games. | Logitech’s Profiler/Gaming Software documentation applies to configuring DirectInput mode, not XInput mode. |
If the controls are wrong or the game does not detect the controller, check the game’s own documentation or settings for its supported input interface, then move the physical switch and retest. Older Logitech documentation mentions Profiler/Gaming Software for DirectInput configuration; it does not make that software or the original CD a requirement for basic connection.
#1 Best Overall
- The 2.4 GHz wireless connection uses a tiny Plug-and-Forget Nano-receiver that stays in your USB port, even on laptops, for fast data transmission with minimal delays, dropouts, or interference.
- With broad game support, the Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* Requires software installation
- Dual vibration motors let you feel every hit, crash and explosion in games that support vibration feedback for a more realistic and immersive experience
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on game console controllers
Fix basic connection problems
Try these checks in order if the F710 does not respond or the wireless connection is intermittent:
- Confirm that the USB receiver is fully connected. Test another USB port if needed.
- If the receiver is connected through a USB hub, use one with its own power supply; Logitech says the receiver works best in a full-powered USB port.
- Check that the batteries are seated correctly and making contact. Replace them with fresh AA batteries if necessary.
- Restart the computer and test the controller again.
- If the wireless link is intermittent, try the USB extension cable included with the F710 to position the receiver differently. Logitech recommends this as a troubleshooting step; it is not a guaranteed fix or a reason to buy another cable.
For unexpected button or trigger behavior, first verify that the game supports the mode selected on the controller. A mode mismatch can affect detection and control behavior, including the trigger and vibration differences described above.
