USB is required for haptic feedback on PC; adaptive triggers and other controller features depend on the game. A successful connection alone does not guarantee that a game will recognize every feature.
Choose USB-C or Bluetooth
Sony lists Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 as supporting DualSense connections over USB and Bluetooth. The choice affects convenience and feature availability:

| Connection | What to expect | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| USB-C | Connect the controller to the PC with a USB-C cable. Sony says PC haptic feedback requires USB; adaptive triggers may also require USB in select games. | Playing at a desk, charging while playing, or using a game’s supported haptics. |
| Bluetooth | Wireless connection without a cable. Advanced features remain game-dependent, and Bluetooth should not be assumed to provide the same feature set as USB. | Playing wirelessly when the game’s controller support meets your needs. |
In either case, the game—not just Windows—determines which controller inputs and advanced functions are available.
Pair the DualSense with Windows over Bluetooth
- Turn the controller off. If its player indicator is lit, hold the PS button until the light goes out. Unplug any USB cable.
- Enter pairing mode. Hold the Create button, then hold the PS button until the light bar begins blinking.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the PC. Turn Bluetooth on and open the list of available devices.
- Select the controller. Choose the DualSense controller in that list. The light bar blinks while pairing; after it is paired, the player indicator lights up.
Sony says the controller can be paired with only one device at a time. If you switch it to another device, expect to pair it again with the PC when you return.
#1 Best Overall
- Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions through haptic feedback
- Experience varying levels of force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers
- Chat online through the built-in microphone and connect a headset directly through the 3.5mm jack
- Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
- Play on more devices using the USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth to connect easily to Windows PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS mobile phones as well as your PlayStation 5
Connect with a USB-C cable
- Use a USB-C cable to connect the DualSense to the PC.
- Wait for Windows to recognize the connected controller, then open the game you want to play.
- Check the game’s controller and feature support before relying on haptics, adaptive triggers, or other DualSense functions.
Sony documents USB-C for supported devices and specifies that haptic feedback on PC requires a USB connection. If you are connecting primarily for haptics, use USB rather than assuming Bluetooth will provide the same result.
Check whether a PlayStation PC game supports the controller
Controller support varies by title. Before changing settings or troubleshooting the controller, check the game’s own support information. On a Steam store page, Sony points to the “Full Controller Support” and “Partial Controller Support” labels as indicators of the level of controller support. These labels do not establish that every DualSense-specific feature works.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Sony’s PlayStation PC accessories page lists selected compatible Steam games, including Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, Horizon Forbidden West, Returnal, and The Last of Us Part I. Treat these as examples, not a complete list or a permanent guarantee: confirm the current information for the particular game you own.
What support labels do—and do not—tell you
- Full Controller Support: Steam identifies the game as having full controller support. It is a useful compatibility check, but it is not proof that all DualSense-specific features are implemented.
- Partial Controller Support: Controller support is limited in some way. Check the game’s details and be prepared to use a mouse and keyboard for some actions or menus.
- Game-specific feature notes: Look for information about adaptive triggers, haptics, and other controller features in the game’s own notices. Support for basic controls does not imply support for advanced functions.
Know which DualSense features can work on PC
Advanced features depend on both the game and connection type. Sony’s guidance distinguishes basic controller connection from support for individual functions:
Rank #3
- Bring gaming worlds to life - Feel your in-game actions and environment simulated through haptic feedback*. Experience varying force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers*
- Find your voice, share your passion - Chat online through the built-in microphone. Connect a headset directly via the 3.5mm jack. Record and broadcast your epic gaming moments with the create button
- A gaming icon in your hands - Enjoy a comfortable, evolved design with an iconic layout and enhanced sticks. Hear higher-fidelity** sound effects through the built-in speaker in supported games
- Multi-device connectivity - Connect using a USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth technology and easily play on more devices including Windows PC and Mac computers.
- Elevate PC gaming with advanced features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in a range of blockbuster PC titles.
| Feature | PC requirements or limitation |
|---|---|
| Standard controller inputs | Recognition and support vary by game. Check the game’s controller-support information. |
| Haptic feedback | Requires a USB connection on PC and a game that supports the feature. |
| Adaptive triggers | Work when supported by the game; USB may be required in select games. |
| Built-in microphone and speaker | Available on Windows PC when supported by the game. |
| Headset jack | Requires a wired PC connection. |
Do not treat a feature listed for one title as a promise for another. A game may accept controller input while omitting haptics or trigger effects, and Sony’s guidance does not establish that Bluetooth provides the same advanced features as USB.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Configure and test the controller in the game
- Confirm the connection first. Pair over Bluetooth or connect by USB-C, and check that the controller’s player indicator responds as expected.
- Check the store page or game notices. On Steam, look for “Full Controller Support” or “Partial Controller Support.” Read game-specific details for any DualSense functions you want to use.
- Open the game’s controller settings. Check that controller input is enabled and review the displayed button layout or prompts. The exact menu labels and available options vary by game.
- Test the controls in a safe menu or low-stakes section. Confirm that movement, selection, and the game’s important actions respond before starting a longer session.
- Test advanced functions separately. If the game claims to support haptics or adaptive triggers, use USB for haptics and check whether the game’s feature notes specify a wired connection for triggers.
If the controller works in menus but not during play, or the game shows keyboard prompts, revisit the game’s own input settings and support notes. A Windows connection does not ensure that a particular title will switch to controller input or support every feature.

Update the controller’s software
Sony identifies the PlayStation Accessories Windows app as the way to update DualSense controller software on a PC. Use that app for controller firmware updates rather than relying on third-party driver utilities presented as required setup. An update does not add game support for features that the game itself does not implement.

Troubleshoot connection and feature problems
The controller does not appear in Bluetooth devices
- Make sure the controller is off before starting pairing mode. If its player indicator is lit, hold PS until it turns off.
- Disconnect the USB cable, then hold Create and PS until the light bar blinks.
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the PC and select the controller from the available-device list.
- If the controller has been paired with another device, pair it with the PC again; Sony says it can be paired with only one device at a time.
The controller connects, but a game does not respond as expected
- Check the individual game’s controller support and input settings. Support varies by title.
- For a Steam game, consult its store-page controller-support label and the game’s feature notices.
- If you need PC haptic feedback, connect by USB. If adaptive triggers are missing, verify that the game supports them and whether it requires USB.
- For built-in microphone or speaker functions, confirm that the game supports them; their availability is not universal.
Pairing steps do not fix the problem
Sony recommends resetting the controller if its pairing instructions do not resolve a connection problem. Follow Sony’s official reset guidance for the controller rather than guessing at a reset procedure. If the problem continues after resetting, Sony directs users to PlayStation Repairs.
Quick Recap
Quick decision guide
- Want the simplest setup? Connect by USB-C and check the game’s controller settings.
- Want a wireless connection? Pair with Bluetooth using Create + PS, then select the controller in Windows Bluetooth settings.
- Want PC haptics? Use USB and choose a game that supports haptic feedback.
- Not sure whether a PlayStation PC title supports the DualSense? Check the game’s current Steam support label and its own feature information; a list of selected compatible games is only a starting point.
