1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo connect a Bluetooth mouse, turn on Bluetooth on the laptop, put the mouse into pairing mode using its model-specific instructions, then select it in the laptop’s Bluetooth settings. To use one mouse with more than one computer, the mouse must support multiple device connections and provide a way to select a stored connection; pairing alone does not create a switch function.
Before you start
- Confirm the laptop has Bluetooth and that it is turned on. A Windows laptop without built-in Bluetooth can use a USB Bluetooth adapter, according to Microsoft’s Windows pairing guidance.
- Power on the mouse and check its charge or batteries.
- Use the mouse maker’s instructions to make it discoverable or enter pairing mode. Buttons and procedures differ by model.
Connect the mouse in Windows
Windows 11
- Turn on Bluetooth in Settings > Bluetooth & devices, or open Quick Settings and turn Bluetooth on.
- Put the mouse into pairing mode. Keep it near the laptop.
- Open the Bluetooth device list from Quick Settings using Manage Bluetooth devices. Find the mouse under new devices, select it, and follow any prompts.
- If the mouse supports Swift Pair, Windows may show a notification while it is nearby and discoverable. Select Connect in that notification to pair it.
Windows 10
- Put the mouse into pairing mode.
- Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth, choose the mouse, and follow any prompts.
Microsoft says a Bluetooth device and Windows reconnect automatically when Bluetooth is on and the devices are in range. Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025; this is relevant if you are also deciding whether to keep using that operating system, not a different pairing procedure.

Connect and select the mouse on a Mac
- Put the mouse into pairing mode according to its setup instructions.
- Open the Mac’s Bluetooth controls and select the mouse to pair it. Exact discovery steps and button names vary by mouse model.
- After pairing, the Mac remembers the accessory and connects automatically when it is turned on and in range, according to Apple’s Mac guide.
- To choose among paired Bluetooth accessories, open Control Center in the menu bar, open the Bluetooth list, and select the accessory.
Switch one mouse between multiple computers
A mouse may be paired with a laptop without being able to switch conveniently to another one. A basic mouse without multi-device support may require reconnecting through the target computer’s Bluetooth controls; the exact behavior depends on the model. For easier switching, look for a mouse with multiple stored computer connections and a hardware channel button or a documented software-assisted switching feature.

Pair a mouse with a channel button
- Select an unused channel on the mouse, following the model’s instructions.
- Put that channel into pairing mode.
- On the second computer, open its Bluetooth settings and pair the mouse.
- After pairing, use the mouse’s channel control to select the computer you want to use. The button sequence is model-specific.
Examples of model-specific switching
Logitech says the MX Anywhere 3S can pair with up to three computers. On that model, a short press of Easy-Switch selects a channel; holding the button for three seconds makes that channel discoverable, after which you pair it from the computer’s Bluetooth settings. This is an example for the MX Anywhere 3S, not a universal procedure for Logitech mice or Bluetooth mice generally. See Logitech’s MX Anywhere 3S setup instructions.

Microsoft’s Bluetooth Ergonomic Mouse has its own additional-device behavior: its pairing button switches device selection, and Smart Switch can automatically switch between screens in supported configurations. Follow Microsoft’s instructions for that mouse; its behavior should not be assumed for other models.
When switching depends on computer software
Logitech Enhanced Easy-Switch is different from using a mouse’s basic Easy-Switch button. Logitech says Enhanced Easy-Switch requires the latest Logi Options+ installed and running on each computer, the devices to be paired, and a Bluetooth or Logi Bolt connection. It supports Windows and macOS. Logitech lists limitations: a keyboard initiates linked switching; a mouse in deep sleep may remain on the previous computer; rapid channel changes can delay synchronization; and corporate IT restrictions or missing Options+ can prevent switching. The feature does not support older Unifying Receiver or wired USB connections. See Logitech’s Enhanced Easy-Switch guide.

If the mouse does not appear or connect
- Check power. Charge the mouse or replace its batteries, then turn it on.
- Check laptop Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled in the operating system’s settings.
- Restart pairing mode. Put the mouse into discoverable mode again using its instructions. For Microsoft Surface and Microsoft mouse or keyboard troubleshooting, Microsoft advises pressing the pairing button and checking that its light blinks; other mice may indicate pairing differently.
- Reduce possible interference. Microsoft suggests temporarily turning off other Bluetooth devices to check whether they are interfering.
- Try the correct computer settings again. Remove uncertainty about which computer is selected, then add or select the mouse from that computer’s Bluetooth controls.
- Use model-specific support. If it still fails, consult the laptop maker’s Bluetooth troubleshooting and the mouse maker’s product help rather than trying an unverified reset sequence.
Microsoft’s power, pairing and interference checks are described in its Surface mouse and keyboard troubleshooting guide.

What to check when choosing a mouse for two laptops
- Stored connections: Check how many computers the mouse can pair with.
- Selection method: Look for a hardware channel control, software-assisted switching, or be prepared to reconnect manually through each operating system.
- Software dependency: Confirm whether switching requires an app to be installed and running on both laptops.
- Operating-system and connection support: Check compatibility for both computers and whether the feature works over Bluetooth, a receiver, or both. For example, Logitech excludes older Unifying Receiver and wired USB connections from Enhanced Easy-Switch.
