For routine fingerprints on a foldable phone’s inner screen, use a clean, soft, lint-free microfiber cloth and wipe lightly while the phone is open and stable. Do not press hard, use an abrasive, spray cleaner on the display, or lift the installed screen film. Before using any liquid or disinfectant, check the cleaning instructions for your exact phone model.
Clean the inner screen with a light touch
- Check the cloth. Use a clean, soft, lint-free microfiber or similar cloth. Make sure it has no grit that could scratch the screen.
- Open and steady the phone. Wipe the inner screen gently with light strokes. Avoid pressing into the crease or rubbing along the edges of the protector.
- Stop if a mark does not lift easily. Do not scrub or switch to household cleaners. Check the official cleaning guidance for your exact model before trying moisture or another product.
A soft cloth is the supported choice for routine smudges across Google, Samsung, and Motorola guidance. Samsung warns that excessive force or pressure on a Galaxy foldable’s main screen can cause scratches or damage: Samsung’s foldable-screen precautions.

Keep the installed screen film in place
Do not pick at the film’s edges or try to remove it to clean underneath. Google specifically warns that removing or picking at the protective film on Pixel Fold can harm the foldable display: Google’s Pixel cleaning guidance. Other foldables may have different protector designs, so follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your model rather than assuming the film can be handled the same way.

Why cleaning advice differs by phone
General phone-cleaning instructions do not automatically apply to an inner foldable display. Samsung’s general cleaning page describes its instructions as applying to glass, ceramic, and metal surfaces; do not extend its moisture or disinfectant advice to a foldable inner screen without model-specific confirmation: Samsung’s cleaning guidance.

Motorola’s Razr Fold hardware guidance recommends a dry, soft cloth, advises against bleach and abrasive cleaners, and says not to spray cleaner directly on the screen: Motorola Razr Fold hardware guide. Google’s Pixel guidance discusses certain wipes for Pixel devices, while also warning Pixel Fold owners not to disturb the film. These directions are model- and device-family-specific, not a universal recipe.
- Cloth: A clean, soft, lint-free cloth is the prudent option for routine smudges.
- Liquid or disinfectant: Check the exact model’s official directions first; do not assume a wipe or spray approved for another phone is suitable.
- Spray: Do not spray cleaner directly onto the display.
- Powering down: Follow the exact model’s directions. The Samsung general phone-cleaning page includes powering down within its stated surface scope, but that does not establish a universal rule for foldable inner screens.
When to stop and get help
If the protector is lifting or the display appears damaged, do not peel the film back or try to repair the screen while cleaning. Use the manufacturer’s support route or an authorized service provider. Google’s Pixel Fold safety guide says the device should be serviced by Google or an authorized service provider; service availability depends on the model and location: Google Pixel Fold safety and regulatory guide.
