To send an SRT output from AWS Elemental Live, open the event’s Output Groups > Reliable TS, add an output, set Delivery Protocol to SRT, and configure its connection mode to match the downstream endpoint. Before you begin, coordinate the receiver’s role, address and port, latency, encryption settings, and network access with its administrator.
Gather the receiver and network details first
Ask the downstream administrator to provide the details for each destination. These values depend on your deployment; AWS’s setup instructions do not prescribe a universal endpoint, latency, interface, or passphrase.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Connection role: Is the receiving endpoint configured as an SRT caller or listener?
- Destination: What IP address and port should Elemental Live send to?
- Latency: What latency should both ends use? Agree on a value and configure close matches.
- Encryption: Should encryption be enabled? If so, agree on AES 128, AES 192, or AES 256 and the passphrase.
- Network access: Confirm the path permits the connection. Depending on the deployment, this may require opening ports at the destination or allowing traffic from Elemental Live’s public IP address.
- Interface: Determine whether an interface selection is needed for your system. The value is installation-specific; use the product UI tooltip rather than guessing.
Elemental Live does not use an SRT stream ID when delivering output, according to Amazon Web Services’ Getting ready – AWS Elemental Live.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDecide whether to configure a secondary destination
Only plan redundant delivery if the receiver can accept two streams and switch to the alternate, and the content provider can supply two completely identical source copies. If either condition is not met, configure a single destination.

Create the SRT output in the event
- Open the event in the Elemental Live interface and go to Output Groups.
- Open Reliable TS, then choose Add Output.
- Set Delivery Protocol to SRT.
- Set SRT Connection Mode to match the downstream endpoint, using the pairing table below.
- For the primary destination, enter the receiver’s IP address and port. AWS shows
srt://192.168.1.2:5000as an example format; it is illustrative, not a recommended value for your installation. - Set the interface if required by your deployment, then enter the latency agreed with the receiver.
- Choose None if the link will not use encryption. Otherwise select the agreed AES level and enter the coordinated passphrase.
- Add a secondary destination only if you confirmed that the receiver can handle redundant streams and identical source copies are available.
- Save or apply the output using the controls in your installed Elemental Live interface, then verify the connection with the receiver.
For the documented output fields and workflow, see AWS’s Creating the output – AWS Elemental Live.
Match caller and listener roles
The downstream endpoint’s role determines the SRT mode to select in Elemental Live. The caller initiates the handshake; the listener accepts or rejects it. Elemental Live remains the sender of the output content in either pairing.

- SDI NDI Encoder Decoder: Encode SDI signals to NDI or decode NDI signals to SDI. It supports NDI|HX3, NDI|HX2, and NDI|HX (Certified), but not full NDI (NDI|HB). Streamlines workflows with high-efficiency NDI|HX formats, ensuring seamless integration between different production systems. Note: ZowieBox cannot be used as an encoder and decoder at the same time. It can only switch between the two working modes, not use both modes at the same time
- AVoIP to NDI and SDI: It can decode AVoIP video streams (RTMP, RTSP, SRT) into NDI and SDI in decoding mode, seamlessly integrating diverse video sources into NDI-compatible workflows for enhanced efficiency in media production and broadcasting
- UVC to SDI Converter: Easily turn your UVC cameras into SDI cameras. With up to 1080@60fps decoding resolution, ZowieBox allows you to unfold more possibilities for webcam devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not supported
- SDI Extender: Using two ZowieBoxes enables point-to-point transmission: one serves as an SDI encoder/transmitter, while the other functions as an SDI decoder/receiver. This setup allows SDI video signals to be transmitted via a LAN. Note: The SDI signal of ZowieBox (hardware before 10.1.13) is not compatible with ATOMAS SHOGUN INFERNO, SHOGUN ULTRA, Blackmagic Decklink Quad 2
- Standalone Live Streaming: Just plug and play, ZowieBox can stream videos PC-free, not affecting your computer performance at all. Support SRT caller/RTMP(S)/RTSP streaming protocol
| Downstream endpoint role | Elemental Live SRT mode | Handshake initiator |
|---|---|---|
| Listener | Caller | Elemental Live |
| Caller | Listener | Downstream endpoint |
Choose the mode that matches the receiver’s configuration and the reachable network path. Do not infer the role from which system sends the video: caller/listener describes connection initiation, not the direction of the content.

For a downstream system other than AWS Elemental MediaConnect, configure the generic SRT output described above. If the destination is an SRT flow on MediaConnect, AWS recommends using the Reliable TS output group with the AWS Elemental MediaConnect option instead. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
Check software version and deployment-specific settings
AWS’s output types table lists SRT under Reliable TS for live transport stream output and identifies Elemental Live 2.22.2 as the version that introduced the option. This is a historical introduction point, not confirmation that a particular appliance currently has the feature enabled; check the software version installed on your system. The table is in AWS’s Output types for delivery to non-AWS destinations – AWS Elemental Live.
Destination addresses, ports, interface selection, latency, encryption credentials, and redundant-stream support are specific to the receiver and network. Obtain them from the responsible administrators rather than substituting AWS’s example address or port.

Troubleshoot common setup failures
No connection or handshake
- Likely cause: Elemental Live and the receiver are both configured as callers or both as listeners, or the selected roles do not match the agreed design.
- Fix: Confirm the receiver’s configured role, then set Elemental Live to the opposite role. The caller initiates; the listener accepts or rejects.
Connection attempts time out or cannot reach the endpoint
- Likely cause: Incorrect destination address or port, a blocked network path, or a required interface setting that has not been configured.
- Fix: Reconfirm the IP address and port with the receiver administrator; check that the destination permits access from Elemental Live and that the applicable firewall rules are in place. Use the interface tooltip and your deployment’s network configuration to select an interface if needed.
Encrypted output is rejected
- Likely cause: The two ends do not use the same encryption setting, AES level, or passphrase.
- Fix: Confirm whether encryption is enabled at both ends and coordinate the exact AES level and passphrase through the administrators responsible for each system.
Packets are not recovered as expected
- Likely cause: The sender and receiver use materially different latency settings.
- Fix: Agree on a latency value with the downstream system and configure close matches at both ends. AWS’s output instructions do not specify a universal latency value.
Secondary stream does not provide usable redundancy
- Likely cause: The receiver cannot process two streams or switch to the alternate, or the two source copies are not completely identical.
- Fix: Confirm receiver and source-provider support before enabling a secondary destination; otherwise use a single destination.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is specifically to keep a prerecorded YouTube channel live 24/7, StreamNeo is a separate option from configuring an Elemental Live SRT output. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start your free day.
