You can change both the size and the color of the mouse pointer in Windows 11 without installing any software. The controls live in the Accessibility settings, under Mouse pointer and touch. The size is set with a slider, and the color is chosen from a set of preset styles or from a custom color picker.
Change the pointer size and color in Settings
Follow these steps on Windows 11. Microsoft’s current instructions for this page are the basis for the menu names below. The page did not show a publication date when these steps were checked in October 2026.

- Open Settings. Press Windows logo key+I, or select the Start button and then the gear icon. To go straight to the Accessibility section, press Windows logo key+U.
- Select Accessibility, then select Mouse pointer and touch.
- Under Mouse pointer, drag the Size slider. Watch the preview and the pointer on your screen, and stop when it is easy to follow. Microsoft’s instructions do not state a numeric range or step for this slider, so judge the result by eye.
- Under Mouse pointer style, select the custom-color option.
- Select Choose another color and pick the color you want in the chooser.
If you want a preset instead of a custom color, the same style section offers white, black, inverted, and a set of recommended bright colors. Those options work without opening the color chooser.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteChoosing a pointer color
The choices are the pointer styles Windows offers, and none of them is objectively the best. Pick the one that stands out against the windows and wallpapers you use most. A pointer that disappears over a white document may be easy to see over a dark web page, and the reverse is also true. The inverted style changes the pointer so that it contrasts with what is behind it, which can help when the background changes often.

| Option | Where to find it | Best used when |
|---|---|---|
| White or black | Mouse pointer style | You want a simple high-contrast pointer and your backgrounds are mostly one tone. |
| Inverted | Mouse pointer style | Backgrounds vary a lot, and you want the pointer to adjust against them. |
| Recommended bright colors | Mouse pointer style | You want a ready-made color without choosing one yourself. |
| Custom color | Mouse pointer style, then Choose another color | You have a specific color in mind or want to test a shade against your own screen. |
Microsoft’s guidance notes that changing the mouse pointer color also changes the text cursor color. If you change the pointer color to improve visibility, expect the blinking text cursor to change as well.
Two different customization routes
Windows also has an older route for pointers that is separate from the Accessibility page. Select Bluetooth & devices, then Mouse, then Additional mouse settings, and open the Pointers tab. From there you can choose a pointer scheme, or browse for a file to replace a single pointer such as the arrow or the busy indicator.

Use this route when you want to swap individual pointer shapes or load a pointer scheme. It is not needed to change size or to pick a color through Accessibility. If you use both routes, the settings you choose in Accessibility are the ones to check first when the pointer does not look right.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsText cursor settings are separate
Windows also has text cursor settings, which control the thickness and indicator of the blinking caret in text fields. Those options do not change the size of the mouse pointer. If you want a thicker or more visible caret, look for the text cursor controls on the same Accessibility page rather than adjusting the pointer slider.

- Your hand can relax in comfort hour after hour with this ergonomically designed mouse. Its contoured shape with soft rubber grips, gently curved sides and broad palm area give you the support you need for effortless control all day long.
- You’ve got the control to do more, faster. Flipping through photo albums and Web pages is a breeze, especially for right-handers—with three standard buttons plus Back/Forward buttons that you can also program to switch applications, go full screen and more. And side-to-side scrolling plus zoom gives you the power to scroll horizontally and vertically through your music library, maps and Facebook feeds, and zoom in and out of photos and budget spreadsheets with a click.* * Requires Logitech SetPoint software (Windows) or Logitech Control Center software (Mac OS X)
- Two years of battery life practically eliminates the need to replace batteries. ** The On/Off switch helps conserve power, smart sleep mode extends battery life and an indicator light eliminates surprises. ** Battery life may vary based on user and computing conditions.
- The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There’s no need to unplug it when you move around, so there’s less worry of it being lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.
If the pointer is still hard to see
- Increase the size slider in small steps and check the pointer over the windows you use most, not only the preview.
- Try a contrasting color against your usual background, then test the inverted style if the background changes often.
- Remember that the text cursor color changes with the pointer color, so check text fields after you make a change.
- If a setting seems to have no effect, reopen Mouse pointer and touch and confirm that the custom-color option is selected rather than a preset.
Visibility depends on the individual reader and the screen. No single size or color is guaranteed to work for everyone, so treat the Settings page as a tool for testing options until the pointer is comfortable to follow.
