Keep full-suite runs on the main branch for baseline updates: subset builds cannot become baselines.
Choose which pages Argos captures
For a stable set of pages, define a route list and call argosScreenshot(page, name) only for those routes. Give each screenshot a stable, unique name so Argos can consistently map it to its baseline.

Here is the capture pattern using Playwright. Set the base URL to match your application and test configuration:

});Register the Argos Playwright reporter in playwright.config.ts so the screenshots captured by your tests are uploaded for comparison. Argos’s published example conditionally enables the reporter in CI; adapt that configuration to your project. See the Argos Playwright documentation and its Playwright example.

Mark an intentionally partial CI run as a subset
Capturing fewer pages is not always the same as running an incomplete suite. If CI intentionally runs only a portion of the normal tests—for example, a feature branch runs tests for affected areas—enable Argos subset mode. It tells Argos to treat screenshots missing because tests did not run as unrun, not as removed pages.
For a Playwright job, set ARGOS_SUBSET=true in the CI environment:

Use the right setting for each workflow
| Workflow | What to configure | What it means |

Common configuration problems
- Unrun pages appear to be missing. If the CI run is partial, explicitly enable subset mode; do not assume runner filtering is detected automatically.
- Screenshots do not map consistently to expected references. Use stable, unique names for captures and keep the route-to-name mapping consistent.
- A partial run does not update the baseline. This is expected: subset builds cannot serve as baselines. Run the full suite on main when you need to create or update the reference set.
- Screenshots are captured but not available for comparison. Check that the Argos Playwright reporter is registered in
playwright.config.tsand enabled in the CI job.
