To run a 24/7 FFmpeg stream over Airtel Xstream, connect the streaming computer to the Airtel router—preferably by Ethernet—measure the upload speed from that computer, and choose a YouTube-compatible bitrate your connection can sustain with headroom. Then send FFmpeg’s output to YouTube Live over RTMPS. Airtel’s advertised plan speed is not a guarantee of sustained upload or uninterrupted service, so test the actual connection before relying on it.
What you need before configuring FFmpeg
- An Airtel Xstream connection and access to its router.
- A computer that can read and encode the source video continuously.
- A video file or playlist suitable for looping, plus a stable power supply.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming available, a live event, and its stream key.
- Enough sustained upload capacity for the video bitrate, audio, and network overhead.
YouTube’s live-streaming setup documentation lists RTMP and RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. This guide uses H.264 and AAC as a straightforward FFmpeg profile. Choose RTMPS when your encoder and the YouTube endpoint support it; use the exact ingest endpoint and key shown in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate recommendations are the reference for stream parameters.

Connect the computer to Airtel Xstream
Prefer a wired LAN connection
Where practical, connect the streaming computer to a LAN port on the Airtel router using Ethernet. A cable avoids Wi-Fi interference and removes one variable from the local connection. Wi-Fi can work, but test it from the exact location where the stream will run. Check that the computer and router have compatible ports and use a cable long enough for your layout; no particular cable length is required.

Its router-help page gives 192.168.1.1 as a default management address and advises checking the router label for its address and credentials. Router models, firmware, login details, and menus can differ, so use the label or Airtel’s model-specific support rather than assuming universal credentials. Do not change router settings without a reason
Ordinary YouTube publishing sends an outbound stream from FFmpeg to YouTube. The cited guidance does not establish that Airtel customers need bridge mode, a public or static IP address, or inbound port forwarding. If the connection cannot reach YouTube, diagnose the actual error and ask Airtel about your router and account before altering unrelated NAT settings.
Measure upload speed from the streaming computer
Run multiple upload tests from the same computer, router connection, and location you will use for FFmpeg. Test at different times if possible, and pause other uploads or downloads during the measurement. A speed test is a snapshot; repeated results help reveal variation. YouTube itself advises running a speed test to assess upload bitrate.

Airtel’s broadband page advertises plans from ₹499 at up to 40 Mbps to ₹3,999 at up to 1 Gbps, with prices exclusive of taxes and plan and geographic terms applying. Those are advertised plan tiers, not an Airtel promise of a particular sustained upload bitrate for your line. Check the current offer for your address and account, then base the encoder choice on measured upload performance rather than the plan label. Airtel Xstream Fiber plans
Choose a bitrate with room for variation
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps, 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommended video bitrates, not guaranteed safe settings for a particular Airtel connection. Audio and network overhead also consume capacity. Pick a lower resolution or frame rate if your measured upload is inconsistent, and leave meaningful headroom instead of setting video bitrate equal to the best speed-test result.

| H.264 profile | YouTube recommended video bitrate | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p, 30 fps | 8 Mbps | For a lower-bandwidth profile where 30 fps is adequate. |
| 720p, 60 fps | 8 Mbps | When smoother motion matters and the connection sustains the bitrate reliably. |
| 1080p, 30 fps | 10 Mbps | When more image detail matters and upload remains stable. |
| 1080p, 60 fps | 17 Mbps | For detailed, smooth motion only when measured upload can support it with headroom. |

Create the YouTube Live event and protect the stream key
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live event you intend to use. Confirm live streaming is available for your channel and that the event’s settings are appropriate for your content.
- Open the event’s stream settings and copy the ingest URL and stream key provided by YouTube. Select the RTMPS endpoint when available and supported by your FFmpeg setup.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it, share it in screenshots, or expose it in a public script or log. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Keep the event open in YouTube Studio for the test, so you can inspect incoming video, audio, and stream-health messages.
Configure FFmpeg for a looping YouTube stream
The following is an illustrative command for a 720p30-style H.264 stream with an 8 Mbps video target, a two-second GOP, and AAC audio. It is not an Airtel-specific tested command and may need changes for your input, FFmpeg build, computer, and YouTube event.

Replace the placeholders and match the source
- Replace
input.mp4with the actual file path. The example loops a single file; a playlist or different input requires its own input setup. - Replace the RTMPS placeholder with the endpoint and key format provided by YouTube. Do not assume the placeholder is a complete ingest URL.
- The command sets output to 30 fps and a 60-frame GOP: at 30 fps, 60 frames represents two seconds. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Change resolution and frame rate to suit the source and selected YouTube profile. This command does not scale the input; it should be configured to match the output you intend to send.
-b:vand-maxrateset the video rate target and ceiling in this example. Lower them if upload tests or YouTube health indicate instability. The 8 Mbps value is not automatically safe on any Airtel line.- The audio options assume an audio stream in the input and encode it as AAC. If the source has no audio or you do not want audio, adapt the mapping and encoding options, then verify the result in YouTube Studio.
FFmpeg’s protocol documentation covers supported output protocols and their options; confirm that your build supports the selected protocol and that the exact YouTube endpoint is correct. FFmpeg Protocols Documentation
Test and supervise the stream before leaving it running
- Start with a test event or an appropriate private/unlisted test. Use representative motion and audio, not only a static frame, so encoding and upload issues are visible.
- Watch YouTube Studio’s preview and stream-health messages. Check for dropped frames, buffering, missing audio, or a mismatched resolution/frame rate.
- Run the stream long enough to observe whether the connection remains stable, including during periods when other household or office devices are active.
- For continuous operation, run FFmpeg under an operating-system process supervisor that records errors and restarts a failed process. Configure logs so you can diagnose repeated failures.
- Monitor the source file or playlist, available disk space if you are recording, the computer’s power and temperature, router state, and YouTube stream health.
A process restart can recover FFmpeg after a process failure; it cannot fix an Airtel outage, a power cut, an unreadable source file, or a YouTube-side problem. YouTube advises testing in advance and monitoring health during a live event, but those steps do not guarantee uptime.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg cannot connect to the ingest server | Wrong endpoint or key, unsupported RTMPS setup, DNS/connectivity problem, or a temporary service/network issue. | Copy the current endpoint and key from the correct YouTube event; confirm the FFmpeg build and protocol support; check whether the computer can reach the internet. Avoid changing bridge mode or port forwarding without evidence they are relevant. |
| YouTube reports unstable stream or dropped frames | Bitrate too high for sustained upload, competing network traffic, Wi-Fi variation, or local encoding limits. | Repeat upload tests from the streaming computer; pause competing traffic; try wired LAN; lower bitrate or choose a lower resolution/frame rate; inspect FFmpeg CPU load and logs. |
| Video appears at the wrong size or frame rate | Output settings do not match the intended profile or source, or scaling/frame-rate conversion was not configured. | Check FFmpeg output parameters and YouTube’s incoming stream details. Add explicit scaling only when needed and ensure the computer can encode it continuously. |
| Audio is missing or distorted | The input may not contain an audio stream, mapping may be wrong, or the selected audio parameters do not match the source. | Inspect the input streams with FFmpeg tools, correct audio mapping, and test AAC output in YouTube Studio before relying on the stream. |
| The stream stops after running for a while | FFmpeg exited, source playback ended, network/power interruption occurred, or YouTube ended/rejected the ingest. | Read the FFmpeg log and YouTube health messages; check the source loop, power, router and connection. Use a process supervisor for FFmpeg restarts, but identify the underlying fault rather than assuming a restart repairs the network. |
| Router settings page does not open at 192.168.1.1 | The router may use a different management address, the computer may not be on its network, or the model’s access method may differ. | Check the router label and Airtel’s model-specific guidance; verify connection to that router over LAN or Wi-Fi. |
Copyright, reused content, and 24/7 channel policies
A technically healthy stream is not necessarily permitted or eligible for monetization. Use content you own or have permission to stream, including music, footage, images, and any other included material. A licence for a recording may not cover every performance or composition embodied in it. Review YouTube’s current copyright and channel policies for your particular use before scheduling a continuous stream; avoid assuming that looping or adding a live label changes the rights status or monetization treatment.
