Compare the exact item and checkout details—not just the price shown in search results. For a U.S. purchase, match the model, quantity, condition, seller and fulfillment type, then compare delivery to your address, membership eligibility, the item-specific return deadline and any return fees. The better offer depends on the listing and your circumstances; neither retailer is always cheaper or easier.
Compare the same offer, not just the same product name
Before comparing totals, make sure both listings are for the same model or part number, quantity and condition. A new item is not equivalent to a used or refurbished one, and bundles can make apparently similar prices misleading. Record who sells the item and who fulfills it: compare retailer-sold offers with retailer-sold offers where possible, or compare marketplace listings on both sites.

Use each retailer’s item page and checkout with your actual U.S. delivery address. Availability, delivery estimates, fees and taxes can depend on location and may change. The item price alone is only one part of the cost.
Compare the checkout total
For each offer, note the item price, shipping or delivery charge, any applicable minimum-order fee, taxes shown at checkout and any membership cost that is relevant to you. If you already have a membership, record that separately rather than treating it as free; if you would subscribe only for this purchase, include the cost you would actually incur. Do not assume a membership benefit applies to a particular listing.

Walmart’s published online policy says it does not match competitor prices, including Amazon’s, for Walmart.com purchases. It also excludes prior Walmart.com prices that later fall and prices offered by Marketplace or third-party sellers. Treat the Walmart and Amazon listings as separate offers and compare their checkout totals, rather than expecting Walmart to adjust its price. See Walmart’s Price Match Policy.
Check delivery eligibility and timing
Walmart shipping versus local-store delivery
Walmart+ members receive free shipping with no order minimum on eligible items sold by Walmart or shipped by Walmart through Walmart.com or the Walmart app. The benefit has exclusions, including some Marketplace, freight, oversized and international items. That shipping benefit is distinct from delivery from a local store: Walmart’s page states a $35 order minimum for waiving the local-store delivery fee and lists a $6.99 minimum-order fee below that threshold. Amazon Prime delivery
Amazon lists One-Day and Two-Day Delivery, Same-Day Delivery for qualifying orders that meet a minimum, Amazon Day, No-Rush Shipping and standard 4–5 business-day delivery for eligible Prime items. These options are not guaranteed for every product or address: eligibility, seller or fulfillment, cutoff times and availability vary. Compare return deadlines, methods and possible costs
Walmart
Walmart’s corporate U.S. Return Policy, marked updated August 17, 2026, says most items can be returned within 90 days. That headline does not apply to every product: the policy lists, among other exceptions, two days for major appliances, 14 days for most wireless phones and Marketplace collectible or luxury items, and 30 days for most consumer electronics and Marketplace items. Some categories have longer periods, and Marketplace items may have different policies. Check the corporate return policy and the offer’s return details.
Walmart’s return overview lists store, curbside, mail and home return routes, but the available options depend on the item. Check the specific listing or order details for the method offered and any applicable costs. The Walmart Free Returns page describes available return options.

Amazon says most items can be returned for a refund or replacement within 30 days of delivery if they are in original or unused condition, subject to category exceptions. Most items have at least one free return option, but a fee may apply if you choose a non-free method, return a heavy or bulky item, or have an unusually high return rate. Item condition or a late return can also lead to fees. Check the product detail page before buying and Order History after purchase; see Amazon’s Return Policy.
For either retailer, compare the exact return-by date, condition rules, return route and who pays postage. A longer standard window does not necessarily make a specific item easier or cheaper to return, especially for marketplace or oversized listings.

Use a side-by-side record for live offers
Fill this in while the two offers are open. Write down when you checked them and the delivery ZIP code or location, since prices and estimates are snapshots rather than standing prices.

Choose based on the complete offer: total cost, arrival date, seller and fulfillment confidence, and how workable the return terms are for you. If one detail is unclear, check it on the item page or at checkout before placing the order.
