Choose a PS5 shooter by the kind of play you want: a solo campaign, competitive matches against other players, or cooperative missions with friends. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Battlefield 6 combine campaigns with multiplayer; Helldivers 2 is built around squad-based co-op. These are different feature profiles, not a quality ranking.
Compare the features that shape how you’ll play
“Shooter” and “multiplayer” alone do not tell you whether a game suits you. Check three separate things: whether there is a single-player campaign, what players do in competitive modes, and whether playing cooperatively against enemies is a central part of the game.

- Campaign: Is a solo story campaign included, and what sort of experience does the publisher describe? Marketing descriptions establish the premise, not the campaign’s quality or length.
- Competitive multiplayer: Are you looking for team matches, large-scale objectives, smaller modes, or tools for creating experiences? Live-service modes and offerings can change.
- Co-op: Can friends team up against enemies, and is that a central activity or a separate mode? Check squad size and online requirements.
Also verify whether online play requires a subscription and whether the listing is for the PS5 edition you intend to buy. Multiplayer usually means playing with or against other people; it does not by itself promise cooperative missions.

What each game’s feature mix means
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: campaign, versus modes, and Zombies
Black Ops 6 combines a single-player campaign with map-based multiplayer and a separate round-based Zombies mode. Activision gives its release date as October 25, 2024, and lists the game for PS5. The launch multiplayer count was 16 maps: 12 core maps for 6v6 and four Strike maps for 2v2 or 6v6. The PlayStation Store description refers to six new Zombies maps. Those counts describe launch-era details; they are not a measure of quality or a guarantee of current availability.
Choose this profile if you want a conventional mix of a story campaign, competitive matches, and a distinct Zombies mode. Activision warns that online services may be modified or discontinued, so verify current online features before purchase. See Activision’s game information.

Battlefield 6: solo missions, varied multiplayer, and Portal
Battlefield 6 pairs a single-player campaign with a broad set of multiplayer modes and Portal creation tools. EA’s October 2025 launch announcement specifies nine single-player missions. Its launch mode list spans large objective-focused play such as Conquest and Breakthrough, alongside smaller formats including Team Deathmatch and Domination. EA also says you do not need to play earlier Battlefield games first.

For PS5, EA lists selectable Fidelity and Performance modes. The FAQ says Fidelity targets 60 FPS at a maximum resolution of 1440p; Performance targets 80+ FPS at a maximum resolution of 1280p. These are EA’s targets for the standard PS5 FAQ entry, not independent performance measurements. EA says an online connection is required. Crossplay can be toggled to exclude PC, although EA notes that long waits may override that preference. Check EA’s Battlefield 6 information and FAQ.

Helldivers 2: co-op is the main draw
PlayStation describes Helldivers 2 as a third-person co-op shooter built around teamwork and missions. Its PS5 listing supports up to four online players. This is the clearest co-op-first profile of the three: it is not best understood as a conventional package of a solo story campaign plus competitive multiplayer.
Online play is required, and PlayStation Plus is required to play online. PlayStation Direct lists a physical PS5 disc in the US; confirm regional availability and the current edition before buying. See PlayStation’s Helldivers 2 listing.

- For a solo story alongside competitive matches: Compare Black Ops 6 and Battlefield 6. Their official descriptions confirm both campaign and multiplayer features, but do not establish which campaign is better or longer.
- For a wider range of named competitive formats and creation tools: Battlefield 6 has EA’s launch list of eight modes and Portal tools. That describes its feature mix, not current mode population or quality.
- For missions designed around playing with friends against enemies: Helldivers 2 explicitly supports co-op squads of up to four online players.
- For Zombies as a distinct mode: Black Ops 6 separates round-based Zombies from its campaign and competitive multiplayer.
Check before you buy
- Confirm the PS5 listing and edition. Store pages can differ by region and edition; check that you are looking at the PS5 product and the content included in that purchase.
- Check current online access requirements. Helldivers 2 requires PS Plus for online play, while EA says Battlefield 6 requires an online connection. Verify the current listing for the game and region you plan to use.
- Decide whether you want co-op or competitive play. Playing online does not necessarily mean teaming up against computer-controlled enemies. Look for an explicit co-op description and player limit.
- Check live-service details close to purchase. Maps, modes, online features, and service availability can change. Black Ops 6’s publisher specifically warns that online services may be modified or discontinued.
