O2C can connect work from order capture through invoicing and payment collection, but platforms differ in how much of that workflow they cover. Public comparable prices were not established in the reviewed evidence, so request quotes built on identical assumptions and normalize the total cost before shortlisting.
Start with the workflow you need to automate
O2C is a connected business process, not a single feature. It may span order capture, credit decisions, customer inquiries, invoice delivery, cash application, deductions, and collections. Some enterprise platforms cover several of these stages; narrower accounts-receivable tools may focus on only part of the cycle, while core ERP order management can remain the system of record for order processing.

Map your current process before comparing products. For each stage, record the system that owns it, the handoffs involved, the exceptions that consume staff time, and whether the desired future state is automation, better visibility, or replacement of an existing tool.

Build a scope checklist
- Order management: Which order channels and order types are included? What remains in the ERP?
- Credit management: How are credit checks, holds, approvals, and changes in customer risk handled?
- Customer inquiries: Can teams see order, invoice, payment, and dispute context in one place?
- Invoice delivery: Which delivery channels and customer or AP portals are supported?
- Cash application: How are remittances matched, and what happens to unapplied or unmatched cash?
- Deductions and disputes: How are cases assigned, documented, approved, and resolved?
- Collections: How are work queues, customer contact, escalation, and payment promises managed?
For every item, distinguish native functionality from an integration, an add-on module, a partner service, or work that remains in another application. Ask vendors to show the boundary in a workflow diagram and in the proposed commercial scope.

Compare platforms using the same demonstrations
Give every vendor the same scripted scenarios and ask them to show the normal path and the failure or exception path. A demonstration of a polished dashboard does not establish how the platform handles a disputed invoice, an incomplete remittance, or a failed data feed.
Use scenarios drawn from your operations
- Order-to-invoice handoff: Show how an order enters the process, which system owns each data element, and how the invoice is created and delivered.
- Customer inquiry: Find the relevant order, invoice, payment, and communication history, then show what an agent can do without switching systems.
- Unmatched payment: Process a payment with incomplete or ambiguous remittance information. Show the work queue, suggested match, approval controls, audit trail, and resolution path.
- Deduction or dispute: Open a case, assign ownership, attach supporting information, route approvals, and show how the outcome reaches the ledger or other source system.
- Failed integration: Simulate a rejected or delayed message. Show monitoring, alerting, recovery, duplicate prevention, and who is responsible for resolving it.
Record whether each scenario works in the proposed configuration, requires another module or service, or depends on customization. Have vendors state which steps they cannot demonstrate and why.
Test integration fit against your actual systems
Do not treat “ERP integration” as a yes-or-no checkbox. A connection may be a certified or pre-built connector, a REST API, a file exchange, a custom integration, or a combination. Those approaches differ in implementation effort, support ownership, error handling, and the work required when systems are upgraded.

Esker describes connectivity with leading ERP systems and REST API and file-exchange options, including for legacy systems or large data volumes. Its integration information is a vendor description; ask the vendor to confirm the exact connector and supported version for your environment. Billtrust’s integration page describes direct connectors or custom integration and invoice delivery to more than 260 AP portals worldwide. That figure is a vendor-stated reach claim, not confirmation that a specific portal, ERP version, payment rail, or geography is covered in your proposed deployment. HighRadius describes pre-built ERP integrations for its integrated finance platform, which includes O2C, on its product page.
Ask integration questions in writing
- Is the connection available for our deployed ERP product, edition, and version, and is it certified, pre-built, API-based, file-based, or custom?
- Which data moves in each direction, how often, and which application is authoritative for each field?
- What AP portals, banks, payment channels, and customer systems are supported for our intended countries?
- How are failed, late, duplicated, or malformed transactions detected and recovered?
- Who owns connector maintenance, monitoring, and changes after an ERP or platform upgrade?
- What implementation work, customer staffing, partner involvement, and recurring fees does each connection require?
Get the answers attached to the proposed configuration and quote. Connector availability can depend on product version, geography, customer setup, and contract.
Check operational fit beyond features
A platform that fits one entity or country may not fit a global finance operation. Validate scale and governance using your expected transaction volumes and operating model rather than relying on broad claims about enterprise readiness.

Evaluate performance claims with evidence
Vendors may publish outcomes such as lower days sales outstanding (DSO), less unapplied cash, or fewer overdue payments. Treat these as vendor-reported claims unless independently verified. Esker’s O2C page states “up to 25%” reduction in DSO, “up to 95%” reduction in unapplied cash, and a 71% reduction in overdue payments; Esker presented these figures on its page accessed in 2026. The reviewed material does not establish a shared methodology or independent verification, so the figures are not guarantees or industry benchmarks. See Esker’s O2C page.
For any claimed result, ask the vendor to define the metric, starting baseline, customer cohort, measurement window, and what changed besides the software. Request references from customers with a similar ERP environment, transaction profile, geography, and process scope. Keep modeled estimates, case-study results, and independently validated outcomes distinct in your evaluation.

Compare quotes on a like-for-like basis
No standardized current price list or comparable total cost was established in the reviewed evidence. HighRadius mentions outcome-based pricing, but that description does not establish whether it applies to every O2C deployment or how a contract compares with another vendor. Request a written quote for the same scope from each finalist; avoid relying on an unqualified price range.
Use a shared pricing template so a lower subscription figure does not conceal excluded modules, integrations, services, or support.
| Quote item | What to make comparable |
|---|---|
| Software scope | Named modules, included users, entities, and any separately priced capabilities. |
| Usage assumptions | Transaction volumes and any volume tiers, overage rates, or limits. |
| Integrations | Each ERP, portal, bank, payment channel, and custom connection, including setup and ongoing maintenance responsibility. |
| Implementation | Configuration, migration, testing, training, partner services, and customer staffing assumptions. |
| Support | Support tier, service coverage, response commitments, and recurring charges. |
| Contract terms | Initial term, renewal and price-change terms, and exit or transition costs. |
Ask vendors to identify assumptions and exclusions explicitly, and to price changes in volume, entities, modules, or integration count. This makes both the initial proposal and potential expansion easier to compare.

Build a shortlist without pretending there is one universal winner
For each candidate, score fit against requirements that matter to your organization, then document evidence and dependencies rather than assigning points for feature names alone. A shortlist can include enterprise O2C suites, AR-focused automation products, and ERP capabilities where they genuinely address the same process need.
The Hackett Group’s 2025 Cash Application Software Digital World Class Matrix lists Billtrust, Esker, HighRadius, Oracle, SAP, and other providers in that category. It is evidence of category participants, not a complete O2C shortlist or a ranking for every buyer. Use the matrix as one source of vendor names, then assess each provider against your own workflow, integration, operating, and commercial requirements.
Before selecting a finalist, make sure the evaluation record captures the workflow scope demonstrated, integration type and version, unresolved exceptions, implementation assumptions, evidence behind outcome claims, and normalized quote. That record is more useful than a broad “best platform” label because the right fit depends on your systems and the work you intend to automate.
