To tell whether an iPhone is genuinely cheaper abroad, compare the same model, storage capacity and condition, then put every price on the same tax and currency basis. Add card fees, shipping and any destination import costs before deciding: a converted list price alone does not show what you will pay.
Start with the same iPhone configuration
Choose one exact iPhone model and storage tier, and compare the same condition, such as new and unlocked where that is what you intend to buy. A lower price for a smaller capacity or a different model is not a like-for-like saving.

Check the regional model and SIM configuration as well. iPhones sold in different markets can have different device variants; confirm that the version available where you plan to buy suits your intended network and use. The international comparison page identifies model, storage and regional variants as relevant controls: Pippin’s iPhone price comparison.

For US online purchases, Apple applies the sales or seller’s use tax rate for the shipping address or pickup location. Apple describes checkout tax as an estimate; the final tax is shown on the invoice. Use the tax for the location relevant to your purchase rather than a national average. Apple’s US shopping help.
Convert prices using a dated rate
Record the exchange-rate provider and date beside every converted price. A currency conversion is a time-specific comparison, not a promise of the exchange rate your card will receive when the transaction posts.

For example, Pippin’s comparison snapshot dated October 2, 2026 converted prices using an ECB rate. Its collection covered 41 official Apple Stores, with prices collected September 11, 2026; it notes that US and Canadian prices are shown before sales tax. Those collection and conversion dates are distinct, and the resulting euro figures should be read as a dated comparison rather than current checkout quotes. Pippin’s comparison and methodology.
Add payment, shipping and destination costs
Your card’s final exchange rate may differ from the rate used in a price comparison. Apple Canada warns that an international-card purchase price may fluctuate with exchange rates, and that the card issuer may charge foreign-conversion fees. Check your issuer’s terms and the transaction currency before buying. Apple Canada Shopping Help.

Then account for shipping and the rules that apply when the phone enters your destination country. Depending on the route and your circumstances, the total may include import tax, duty, declaration requirements or other charges. Check current guidance from the destination country’s customs authority; requirements differ by country, so a rule or example for one destination should not be applied to another. The comparison source discusses destination costs in its UK example, but that example does not determine what another buyer owes. Pippin’s landed-cost discussion.
Use a consistent comparison worksheet
- Choose the device: write down the exact model, storage capacity, condition and relevant regional/SIM configuration.
- Collect official local prices: record the official country-store price and the date you checked it.
- Normalize tax: mark whether the displayed price includes local tax. Add excluded tax using the relevant checkout location or address where applicable.
- Convert consistently: choose a named rate provider, record its date, and convert all prices into one comparison currency.
- Adjust for payment: allow for the card issuer’s exchange rate and any foreign-currency fee.
- Add destination costs: include applicable shipping, import tax, duty and declaration costs for your route and circumstances.
- Compare totals: put the adjusted amounts side by side in one currency and label assumptions. Recheck prices, rates and rules when you are ready to buy.
What the October 2026 snapshot says—and does not say
In Pippin’s comparison, as of October 2, 2026, the iPhone 18 Pro 256 GB was listed as cheapest in the United States at $1,295 with estimated tax (shown as €1,154) and most expensive in Türkiye at ₺137,999 (shown as €2,502), a reported 117% spread. These are that comparison’s calculations, not an independently verified checkout quote or a permanent country ranking. Its notes say US and Canadian list prices are pre-tax, so the US figure’s estimated tax treatment is particularly important when interpreting the comparison. Pippin’s October 2, 2026 comparison.
