Reg-suit compares screenshots; it does not capture the website for you. First render the Hindi page in a controlled browser environment, then give Reg-suit the current images and compare them with the baseline. Keep the browser, viewport, device scale, fonts and page readiness consistent, and inspect the report for genuine Devanagari text or layout changes before accepting a new baseline.
What Reg-suit does—and what you must do first
Reg-suit is a command-line tool for visual regression testing. Its actualDir holds the images from the current test run; expected images are synchronized from the configured publisher. Reg-suit compares the images and produces an HTML report. It does not itself render a website into a screenshot, so capture Hindi pages with your existing browser automation or another screenshot generator first. See the Reg-suit README and the Reg-suit Puppeteer example.

Set up a repeatable Reg-suit workflow
- Install and initialize. Follow the project’s current installation instructions, then run
reg-suit initto configure the workflow and publisher. Check the package registry and project releases for the version you intend to install; a historical registry listing is not a guarantee of the latest version. Reg-suit on npm. - Capture the current Hindi page. Use browser automation to render the page after the intended fonts and content have loaded. Save images using the naming and directory conventions expected by your project.
- Configure the image directories and publisher. Set
core.actualDirto the directory containing the current images. Reg-suit documentsworkingDiras temporary working storage, with.regas its default. Configure a publisher and the baseline source appropriate to your project. - Compare locally while tuning. Run
reg-suit compareto examine the comparison during development. For the usual pipeline,reg-suit runis documented as the combined sync, comparison, publish and optional notification flow. - Review before updating a baseline. Open the HTML report and inspect changed areas. Accept an updated baseline only when the visual change is intended.
The Puppeteer demo shows one capture-and-compare approach; it is an example rather than a requirement to use Puppeteer, S3 or CircleCI.

Image comparison sees pixels, not intent. A difference can come from application code or from a different rendering environment. For Hindi pages, hold these inputs steady wherever possible:
#1 Best Overall
- Browser build and operating-system or container image.
- Viewport dimensions, device scale factor and browser launch settings.
- The web-font files available to the browser and the font stack used by the page.
- Page state and capture timing, including when images, dynamic content and fonts are ready.
Chromium’s testing guidance notes platform text-rendering differences and treats font selection, fallback, text flow and typography as cases where a general font-variance workaround is inappropriate. If Hindi typography is what you want to test, use the intended fonts and real Hindi text; substituting a geometry-oriented font would remove the behavior under test. Chromium: Writing Web Tests.
Wait for the intended font and page state
Web fonts can load after the initial page paint. Depending on the site’s font-display behavior, text may be hidden temporarily or shown using a fallback font before the custom font appears. Capture both the baseline and the current page only after the state you mean to test has settled. Use a page-specific readiness condition rather than assuming one fixed delay works for every page. Separate typography tests from geometry-only tests
If the test is meant to catch incorrect Hindi glyphs, matras, conjuncts, line wrapping or clipping, preserve the actual font stack and content. If you also need to test layout geometry without depending on text appearance, isolate that purpose into a separate test; do not make a typography test insensitive to font choice.

Reg-suit provides controls for tolerating pixel-level variation, but tolerance is a trade-off: it can reduce noisy failures while also allowing unwanted changes through. Start with stable captures and inspect the report before changing thresholds. The README documents these controls and zero defaults for thresholdRate and thresholdPixel; its sample thresholdRate: 0.05 is an example, not a universal recommendation for Hindi pages.

| Setting | What it controls | Practical caution |
|---|---|---|
thresholdRate |
Ratio of differing pixels tolerated, from 0 to 1. | A higher value can hide real glyph or wrapping changes. |
thresholdPixel |
Alternative absolute differing-pixel threshold. | Choose it with awareness of image dimensions and the report’s changed regions. |
matchingThreshold |
YUV color-distance matching threshold, from 0 to 1; smaller values are more sensitive. | Do not use a looser color match to excuse incorrect text rendering. |
enableAntialias |
Ignores pixels detected as anti-aliased during comparison. | Check the resulting report to ensure important glyph edges remain meaningfully tested. |
ximgdiff |
Optional detailed difference information in the HTML report. | Useful for inspecting diffs; it does not make a changed rendering correct. |
concurrency |
Number of comparison processes run in parallel; documented default is 4. | Changing parallelism affects processing, not capture consistency. |
For scripts that should not mutate state, the README documents a global --test dry-run option. Verify the behavior against your installed package version before relying on it in a production pipeline. Reg-suit configuration and commands.
Review Hindi-specific differences in the report
Look at changed regions in context rather than treating every flagged pixel as a defect. For Devanagari pages, check whether glyph shapes, conjuncts and matras are correct; whether lines wrap differently; and whether text is clipped or displaced. A visual difference caused by a font finishing its load is not the same as a code regression, but it still signals that capture readiness needs to be controlled.

Playwright’s visual comparison documentation also notes that browser and platform differences, including fonts, can affect screenshots and that snapshot names identify browser and platform. That is useful evidence for controlling the environment even if your comparison step is Reg-suit rather than Playwright. Playwright visual comparisons.

CI, baseline storage and notifications
Reg-suit documents publisher plugins for S3 and GCS and notifier plugins for GitHub, GitLab, Slack and Chatwork. Its S3 publisher description says it fetches prior snapshots for expected images and uploads actual snapshots and comparison reports. Decide on storage, retention, access controls, CI and notification behavior for your own deployment; the Puppeteer repository’s S3 and CircleCI setup is an example, not a required architecture. If you want a screenshot capture service rather than maintaining the capture step yourself, ScreenshotNeo can return a website screenshot as PNG, JPEG or WebP, or a PDF. It is a capture API and MCP server; it does not replace Reg-suit’s image comparison and baseline workflow.
For example, capture the page to WebP with cURL (see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Those clean-capture behaviors may help produce input images, but you still need a consistent capture setup and a comparison tool such as Reg-suit to test Hindi rendering.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Reg-suit take the website screenshot itself?
No. Capture the rendered page separately, then put the resulting images in the configured actualDir for comparison.
Should I use a fixed wait time before capturing Hindi text?
A fixed delay is not reliable for every site. Use a page-specific readiness condition that confirms the relevant content and fonts have settled.
