Use two Playwright Test runs—one for each language—and compare each rendering with its own approved baseline. If you want to inspect the differences between the languages themselves, capture the same route and page state in both locales under matching browser and viewport conditions, then review the images side by side. Playwright’s screenshot assertions provide baseline-based visual regression checks; they do not automatically identify localization defects.
Choose the comparison you need
Check each language against its design
Keep a Hindi baseline and an English baseline, and run the corresponding test in a context configured for that language. This answers whether each localized page still matches its approved appearance.

Review the differences between languages
Capture the same route and state under both locales and examine the images side by side. The pages are expected to differ in text and may differ in layout; the purpose is to review whether those differences are acceptable. Playwright’s baseline assertion model does not supply a dedicated Hindi-versus-English comparator.

Playwright Test lets you configure a browser context’s locale with test.use({ locale: 'en-US' }). Use the locale identifier and route conventions your application actually supports. A browser locale setting does not guarantee that your site will switch languages: routing, translation selection, and language persistence are application-specific. Confirm that the rendered page is genuinely Hindi or English before treating its screenshot as valid.

Here is a minimal Playwright Test example with separate locale projects. Replace the example routes and Hindi locale identifier with the values used by your application. The example assumes both locale routes can be reached at the same path; if your app uses distinct language-prefixed paths, set each project’s route accordingly.

The sample is a starting point, not a universal locale prescription. Add application-specific assertions that establish which language actually rendered; otherwise, a routing or translation failure can produce a stable screenshot of the wrong page.

Keep screenshot conditions comparable
For a meaningful pair, hold the capture conditions steady: use the same browser engine and version, operating system, viewport dimensions, device scale, page state, and screenshot scope. Playwright notes that rendering can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. Its guidance is to run tests in the same environment used to create the baselines. Applying that consistency to a bilingual pair helps separate language-driven differences from environment-driven rendering changes.
Choose one capture scope and use it for both languages. Playwright supports page screenshots, element screenshots, and full-page screenshots. Use full-page capture when below-the-fold content matters, an element capture when a specific component is under review, or a regular page capture for the visible viewport. Do not compare a full-page Hindi capture with an English viewport-only capture.

Stabilize the page without hiding the thing under test
toHaveScreenshot() waits until two consecutive page screenshots match before comparing the final result with the expected image. Screenshot assertions disable animations by default. For additional volatile content, the screenshot assertion supports stylePath, which can apply a stylesheet to content including frames and Shadow DOM. A narrowly scoped stylesheet can suppress timestamps or other irrelevant changes, but do not hide Hindi text, containers, or components whose layout you intend to validate.
Hindi-specific font readiness is application-dependent. The Playwright material cited here does not establish a Hindi font package or a particular font-loading assertion. Before trusting a capture, inspect that the expected Hindi glyphs appear and verify in your app that the intended web fonts have loaded. Missing glyphs or fallback fonts can change both appearance and line wrapping.

Review what changed and set tolerances carefully
Visual snapshots are reference images, not semantic localization checks. Review the images for practical issues such as unexpected wrapping, clipped text, overlap, horizontal overflow, component height changes, and alignment. These are useful review targets, not defects Playwright diagnoses automatically.
Playwright supports a threshold for acceptable perceived color difference and a maxDiffPixels allowance. The visual comparison documentation gives threshold a default of 0.2 and says maxDiffPixels is unset by default. Set allowances to suit the project and keep them as strict as practical: loosening tolerances can make real visual problems harder to catch.

When a visual change is intentional, update the expected image deliberately with --update-snapshots, then inspect the change. Playwright UI mode can show expected, actual, and diff images to support review.
