Compare HCLTech, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Wipro in two stages: first assess their operating performance on a consistent basis, then decide whether each stock’s valuation compensates you for its risks. Revenue growth and margins alone cannot tell you which share is attractive. The FY2026 figures below cover the year ended March 31, 2026; they are not a comparison of the companies’ latest quarters or of their current share prices.
Start with comparable business measures, not a stock ranking
These four companies sell technology and business services, but their disclosures do not automatically create an apples-to-apples comparison. A useful analysis aligns the fiscal period, consolidated or segment basis, currency convention, and metric definition before comparing the numbers. If one company reports a fiscal-year result and another has since reported a newer quarter, a table that mixes them can misstate relative momentum.

What the FY2026 disclosures show
Reported growth and constant-currency growth answer different questions. Reported growth includes the effect of exchange-rate movements; constant-currency growth attempts to isolate changes in business activity by applying a currency convention specified by the issuer. Keep the two in separate columns and read each company’s definition rather than assuming that the calculations are identical.
| Company | FY2026 revenue measure | Growth basis | Operating profitability measure | What the figure does—and does not—show |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TCS | ₹267,021 crore consolidated revenue from operations | Up 4.6% reported; down 2.4% in constant currency | EBIT before other income: ₹66,838 crore, or 25.0% of revenue, compared with 24.3% in FY2025 | The reported and constant-currency rates point in different directions. TCS’s FY2026 annual report and earnings materials are the sources for these company-defined measures. |
| Infosys | US$20,158 million revenue | Up 4.6% in reported currency | Not stated in the FY2026 revenue figures cited here; use the consolidated table in Infosys’s FY2026 Form 20-F and verify its definition before comparing a margin. | The filing identifies role mix, improved pricing and productivity, acquired-company revenue, and favorable currency translation among revenue contributors. The reported growth rate is not a constant-currency rate. |
| Wipro | US$10.5 billion IT Services revenue | Down 1.6% year over year in constant currency | IT Services operating margin: 17.2% | These are IT Services measures, not a claim that every company-wide metric has the same scope. Wipro’s Form 20-F says IT Services made up 99.3% of revenue and 104.9% of operating income. |
| HCLTech | Exact FY2026 revenue figure and growth definition: not stated in the selected FY2026 material summarized here; verify the company’s annual report before charting it. | Not stated in the selected material summarized here. | Not stated in the selected material summarized here; verify the annual report’s margin definition and any adjustments. | HCLTech describes Digital Business Services, Digital Foundation Services, Business Process Operations, and Career Shaper. It also says it reported Advanced AI revenue; that is an issuer positioning claim, not a standardized peer metric. |
The TCS numbers are from Tata Consultancy Services’ FY2026 annual report and earnings materials. Infosys’s figures and revenue-driver explanation are from its FY2026 Form 20-F. Wipro’s IT Services figures come from its FY2026 annual-report highlights and Form 20-F. HCLTech’s service-line and Advanced AI descriptions come from its FY2026 materials. Verify each issuer’s full statements and definitions when building a live comparison; the selected measures above are not a substitute for extracting the complete consolidated accounts.
Why TCS’s two growth rates matter
TCS’s 4.6% reported increase and 2.4% constant-currency decline are not interchangeable descriptions of the same result. One includes currency translation; the other is intended to reduce that effect. An investor should record both, use the company’s stated methodology, and avoid interpreting reported growth alone as evidence of equivalent underlying demand. The same discipline applies to peers: do not place an absent or differently defined constant-currency number in the same column as a reported-currency figure.

Wipro’s 17.2% operating margin applies to IT Services. Its Form 20-F reports that the segment represented 99.3% of company revenue and 104.9% of operating income. A segment can account for more than 100% of consolidated operating income when other activities or eliminations reduce the consolidated total; the percentage does not mean that segment revenue or income was misstated. For a fair peer comparison, distinguish segment margins from consolidated margins and note the exact scope beside each number.
Build a fair operating comparison in this order
1. Align period, scope, and currency
Choose one reporting cutoff and apply it to all four companies. Use the same fiscal year or, for a quarterly review, the same quarter and comparable trailing period. Prefer consolidated figures when the question is about the whole company. If an especially important business line is reported separately, show it as a separate segment measure rather than silently substituting it for consolidated results.
Record the currency beside revenue and profit. TCS’s reported revenue is in rupees, while the cited Infosys and Wipro revenue figures are in U.S. dollars. Do not compare their nominal revenue totals as though the currencies were the same. Convert values only with a stated exchange-rate method and date; growth rates can also be distorted if reported and constant-currency measures are mixed.

2. Put growth beside its definition
For each company, collect reported revenue growth and constant-currency growth as distinct measures where both are disclosed. Read whether the rate refers to total revenue, a segment, or a particular currency basis. Note material contributors described by management, such as pricing, productivity, role mix, acquired businesses, or currency translation. Those factors help explain a result, but they do not independently establish how much growth will recur.

If a comparable figure is not disclosed or has not been verified in the relevant filing, mark it as unavailable for the chosen comparison rather than implying precision.
3. Compare margins only after checking the accounting
“Operating margin,” “EBIT margin,” and adjusted operating margin may differ in included items and calculation. Check the numerator, denominator, segment scope, treatment of other income, and any exclusions or adjustments. TCS’s cited FY2026 measure is EBIT before other income; Wipro’s cited figure is IT Services operating margin. They should not be treated as identical simply because both are expressed as percentages.
Margins are also shaped by business mix, currency, acquisition effects, and one-off adjustments. A higher margin can indicate strong execution, but it is not a standalone quality score or proof of a more attractive stock. Compare a company with its own history using the same definition, then compare peers only where the definitions are sufficiently aligned.
4. Add cash conversion and balance-sheet context
Revenue and accounting profit do not show how much cash the business generated. From each company’s consolidated cash-flow statement, collect operating cash flow and capital expenditure for the same period. A simple free-cash-flow calculation is operating cash flow minus capital expenditure, but state the exact line items used because companies and analysts can define free cash flow differently.
For a conversion measure, divide free cash flow by net income or another explicitly chosen earnings measure, and use the same denominator across the peer set. Review working-capital movements and unusual cash-flow items so a single year does not obscure whether cash generation is recurring. The selected FY2026 figures summarized above do not establish comparable operating cash flow or free-cash-flow conversion values for all four companies.

Then examine cash, debt, lease liabilities, and other material balance-sheet obligations in the consolidated statements. These affect resilience and the capacity to return capital, but the cited figures do not provide a complete four-company balance-sheet comparison. Use the filings rather than inferring financial strength from revenue growth or margin alone.
5. Map business mix and customer exposure
Service-line, industry, and geographic mix can explain why similar headline growth rates have different implications. HCLTech’s FY2026 materials distinguish Digital Business Services, Digital Foundation Services, Business Process Operations, and Career Shaper. For each peer, extract the comparable segment and end-market disclosures from its own report; do not assume that category names or segment boundaries match across issuers.
Consider whether growth is concentrated in a few industries, geographies, or large clients, and whether a change in one area could outweigh progress elsewhere. The selected FY2026 material does not provide a harmonized four-company breakdown of those exposures, so a detailed mix ranking would need the full reports.
6. Treat contract measures as indicators, not booked sales
TCS’s FY2026 annual-report materials describe a US$40.7 billion order book or total contract value (TCV) context. The terms refer to contract-related measures, not revenue already recognized in the income statement. Contract value can be delivered over time, may depend on execution and client decisions, and should not be converted directly into near-term sales or profit.
TCS CEO and Managing Director K. Krithivasan said in the FY2026 earnings release dated April 9, 2026: “We are pleased to report the third consecutive quarter of sequential growth, supported by three mega deals and a $12 billion TCV, underscoring the strength of our five pillar strategy and our AI led positioning across services.” This is management’s characterization of quarterly momentum and deal activity, not an independent assessment or a guarantee of future revenue. When comparing deal wins or backlog across companies, check whether the measure is bookings, total contract value, order book, or another issuer-defined metric, along with its period and cancellation or conversion caveats.
7. Read workforce and capital-return information in context
Workforce size, utilization, hiring, attrition, and compensation can help explain delivery capacity and cost pressure. Compare these only when the reporting periods and definitions are aligned; headcount alone does not measure productivity, and utilization rates may not be disclosed on a common basis. The selected figures here do not establish a comparable workforce or utilization table for all four companies.

Likewise, record dividends, buybacks, and other distributions from each company’s filings, including whether a payment is recurring or one-time. A large capital return can matter to total shareholder return, but it does not establish that a share is cheap. Review the cash available after operating needs and investment, and compare payout decisions over a consistent period.
Evaluate AI claims without treating them as peer metrics
AI can affect both the demand for technology services and the labor or project effort needed to deliver them. It may create work in areas such as modernization, data, and cloud, while also changing productivity or substituting for some existing services. Those forces can move in different directions, so an AI narrative is not by itself evidence of durable revenue or margin improvement.
HCLTech says it was the first large-cap India-headquartered technology services company to report Advanced AI revenue. Attribute that claim to HCLTech, and do not compare it directly with another issuer’s AI-related description unless the companies define the revenue category, recognition period, and inclusion criteria on a comparable basis. The selected FY2026 materials do not establish a standardized independent measure of AI revenue across these four businesses.
When reading an issuer’s AI commentary, separate claims about capability or positioning from reported financial outcomes. Look for the precise revenue definition, whether it is incremental or includes existing services, and whether a figure is audited or otherwise defined in the filing. Also consider the counter-risk: clients may expect productivity gains to reduce project hours or pricing even as new work emerges.

A strong business can be an unattractive investment at a sufficiently high price, and a slower-growing business can still be worth evaluating at a price that reflects its risks. The operating figures above cannot rank the four stocks because they do not supply synchronized share prices, diluted earnings, or a common valuation date.

Use a consistent price-to-earnings calculation
- Choose a market date and security. Record the quoted price for the specific listed share and exchange on the same date for all four issuers. Note any market closure or currency conversion required.
- Choose the earnings basis. For trailing P/E, divide the price by diluted earnings per share for a consistently defined trailing period. For forward P/E, use estimates from one identified forecast source and record when the forecast was accessed. Do not mix trailing earnings for one company with forecast earnings for another.
- Check the denominator. Align fiscal periods, share basis, accounting treatment, and currency. If earnings are unusually affected by acquisitions, impairments, or other items, show the reported figure and any adjusted figure separately, with the adjustment definition.
- Compare the multiple with its context. Consider expected growth, margins, cash conversion, cyclicality, balance-sheet risk, and capital returns. A multiple is a price-to-earnings relationship, not a verdict independent of business quality and assumptions.
No current or same-date valuation multiple for HCLTech, Infosys, TCS, or Wipro is asserted here. Prices and analyst forecasts change, so a valuation table must be assembled from synchronized market data and a named earnings source rather than inferred from FY2026 operating results.
Best Value
Use other valuation measures only when they answer a specific question
Price-to-free-cash-flow can be useful when cash generation is central to the thesis, but only after defining free cash flow consistently. Enterprise-value measures require a comparable treatment of cash, debt, and other obligations. Dividend yield describes the relationship between a declared or expected dividend and price; it does not establish whether that dividend will recur. Avoid adding several ratios merely to create an impression of precision when their inputs are not aligned.
Risks to test before deciding whether a stock fits
- Client spending: Cost optimization, vendor consolidation, or delayed projects can affect demand and timing. TCS’s FY2026 materials describe client activity around cost optimization, vendor consolidation, technology modernization, and cloud and data modernization as prerequisites for AI deployment; this is the company’s account of its demand environment, not a guarantee of spending.
- Currency: Translation can make reported growth differ from constant-currency growth, as TCS’s FY2026 figures demonstrate. Currency movements can also affect reported margins and the value of overseas earnings when converted.
- Acquisitions: Acquired-company revenue can contribute to growth, as Infosys’s FY2026 filing identifies. Assess the contribution separately where disclosed, and consider integration and profitability rather than treating acquired revenue as equivalent to organic growth.
- Labor and productivity: Wage costs, hiring needs, retention, utilization, and productivity can influence margins. A productivity improvement can benefit delivery economics, but its effect on pricing and client demand also matters.
- AI and service substitution: New AI-related work may coexist with automation of existing tasks. Company claims about AI positioning or revenue should be distinguished from comparable financial outcomes.
- Deal execution: Large contract values can take time to convert into recognized revenue and depend on delivery and client demand. Do not treat an order book or TCV figure as guaranteed sales.
- Valuation and expectations: A share price can already reflect anticipated growth or margin improvement. The relevant question is not only whether the business is performing well, but what performance the current valuation appears to require.
A practical comparison worksheet
Before drawing a conclusion, create one row per company and fill the same fields from each issuer’s filings and synchronized market data:
- Reporting period, consolidated or segment scope, and reporting currency.
- Reported revenue growth and constant-currency growth, each with the issuer’s definition.
- Operating or EBIT margin, with scope, calculation, and adjustments.
- Operating cash flow, capital expenditure, free cash flow, and the chosen conversion ratio.
- Service, industry, and geographic mix, plus material client concentration if disclosed.
- Bookings, backlog, or TCV, with the issuer’s terminology and time horizon.
- Workforce and utilization indicators where definitions permit comparison.
- Dividends, buybacks, and other capital allocation over a consistent period.
- Share price date, listed security, diluted earnings basis, valuation multiple, and forecast source if applicable.
- Key risks and the evidence that would confirm or weaken the investment case.
Leave a field marked unavailable when a filing does not establish a comparable value. That is more informative than filling a gap with an assumption. Revisit the worksheet when all four companies have reported the same period, since results, guidance, and share prices can change after the FY2026 year-end.
How to reach a defensible conclusion
First decide which operating traits matter most to your investment horizon: growth, margin resilience, cash conversion, capital return, or a particular service or client mix. Then check whether each company’s reported results support those traits on a comparable basis. Finally, compare the stock price with a consistently calculated valuation and ask whether the expected return justifies company-specific and sector risks.
On the available FY2026 figures, TCS offers the clearest paired reported and constant-currency growth measures and a stated EBIT margin; Infosys reports revenue growth in reported currency and names several contributors; Wipro reports a declining constant-currency IT Services revenue measure alongside segment margin; and HCLTech’s selected materials describe its service lines and Advanced AI positioning but do not establish the harmonized revenue and margin figures needed for this table. These observations describe what the cited disclosures show, not which stock is the best buy. The investment decision still requires full-period operating data and same-date valuation inputs.
