To compare Google Search Console performance across countries, open the property’s Search results Performance report, set the search type and date range, then choose + New > Country > Compare and select two countries. The report shows their performance in the chart and table. For more than two markets, repeat the comparison in pairs or use exported or bulk data for a broader analysis.
Set up a country comparison
- Open the right report. In Google Search Console, open the property and go to the Search results Performance report. Confirm the search type—Web, Image, Video, or News—and set the date range you want. The report defaults to Web and, by default, displays the past three months. Google’s Performance report guide describes the report and its controls.
- Choose the scope, if needed. To focus on a particular topic or landing page, apply the relevant query or page filter before comparing. Google’s walkthrough demonstrates selecting a query first. Keep that same filter in effect for both countries. Google’s country-comparison instructions
- Check country data. Select the Countries tab above the table to see which countries have data for the report’s current scope.
- Compare two countries. Select + New at the top of the report, choose Country, then Compare. Choose two countries from the available list and apply the comparison. The list includes countries for which the property has data. The comparison appears in the chart and table. Google’s instructions
- Inspect the metrics. Use the metric cards for clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position. Select the same metrics and retain the same search type, date range, and filter scope when interpreting both countries.
Choose metrics that answer your question
| Metric | What it measures | How to use it in a country comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Clicks | Times users clicked the site from Google Search results. | Shows the resulting visits from Search for the report’s scope and period. |
| Impressions | How often the site appeared in Search results. | Helps assess visibility; compare it alongside clicks rather than treating it as visits. |
| CTR | Clicks divided by impressions. | Shows clicks relative to visibility. A difference does not, on its own, explain why users behaved differently. |
| Average position | The average position of the topmost result. | Provides ranking context, but is an aggregate—not a stable rank shared by every query or page. |
These are interpretations of Google’s metric definitions, not causal explanations for differences between countries. Google’s Performance report metrics guide explains how the metrics are defined.

Keep the comparison fair
- Use the same search type and dates. A country comparison is meaningful only when both sides cover the same kind of Search result and the same period. Choose the period before adding the country comparison; see Google’s comparison guidance for the report’s comparison behavior.
- Match the filter scope to the question. For an overall market view, compare country totals for the same property and period. For a specific query or page, apply the same query or page constraint before comparing.
- Account for how results vary. Google says Search results are specific to time, place, device, and a searcher’s recent history. Country-level differences alone therefore do not establish what caused a change.
- Know what the totals aggregate. Country, query, device, and date groupings are property-aggregated; Pages and Search appearance groupings are page-aggregated. Chart totals can consequently differ from table totals. Google’s Performance report guide
Compare more than two countries
The report’s comparison interface handles two groups in one dimension at a time; it does not provide a simultaneous all-country matrix. For a small number of markets, repeat the pairwise comparison while keeping the search type, dates, and filters unchanged. For a broader view, use the Countries table and an export or bulk-data workflow. Google’s comparison guidance

Adding a country comparison can reset the date range
Search Console permits only one comparison dimension at a time. Adding a country comparison clears an existing date comparison, and Google’s documentation says the date range resets to the default in that situation. Set the desired period first, then add the country comparison and verify the dates shown. Google’s comparison guidance

Exports may not contain every row
Google documents report exports as limited to 1,000 representative rows. Displayed totals may include data beyond those exported rows, so a download should not automatically be treated as a complete row-level dataset for a large property. Google’s report-export guide
Use bulk data when you need more flexible analysis
Google documents bulk data export and query examples that include a country field alongside date, device, and search type, including an example of country-filtered performance analysis. Check the property’s availability and setup before relying on this route. Google’s bulk data export documentation
